RC2 Disk not found

Hello, I do a zypper up zypper dup on my installation from RC1, afterward the system can't start? The System don't find the disk's "/" (mount by........) 11.4 RC2 KDE LiveCD

Hi list, I try to install 11.4 RC2 KDE LiveCD in my netbook HP 311. But it seems something wrong with the installer, it is stop responding when the progress bar show 35%. Anyone confirm this issue? RC2 upgrade caused more bugs: Gnome/YaST2 bug

Hi list, 1) Previous 'zypper dup' from 11.4 M6 x86_64/Gnome to RC1 caused a GLib-GIO:ERROR on my machine. Weekly News for February 26

The Open-Bugs-Day sponsored by the Testing Core Team was a great success. Bernhard Wiedermann developed a special Web tool that allowed the participants to avoid getting in each other's way. This tool presented a list of open bugs from the Factory and 11.4 lists. For each such item, the user could skip the patch, take (reserve) it for themselves, or use a link to read the actual bug. Once a particular bug was taken, it was no longer presented to others. Bernhard had also prepared a number of virtual machines that teters could use to test if a given bug was still valid. Others used their own real or virtual machines for testing. There were a total of 219 bugs controlled by the tool. Of these, 176 were taken, and the bugzilla entry for 140 of there were modified. If we use a different statistic, there were 235 open bugs in the factory and 11.4 MX lists when we started. After the day was over, these were reduced to a total of 91, which makes the remaining open bugs a lot more obvious. By any measure, the effort was a success. The most-active participants, and the number of bugs taken are Rainer Hurtado Navarro (49), Bernhard Wiedemann (34), Pieter De Decker (24), Larry Finger (13), Terje J. Hanssen (11), Malvern Star (10), Karsten König (10), Michal Hucko (9), Refilwe Seete (8), John McInnes (8), and Jason Craig (8). Thanks to all that participated. Due to the success of Open-Bugs-Day, a second round is tentatively scheduled for April 2, 2011. There will be more on that later. OpenSUSE 11.4 RC2 has been released and testing is under way. So far, things have gone quite well for me on the 5 installations that I have done. Thus far, all have been updates, four from 11.4 RC1 and one from 11.3. The next IRC meeting of the TCT will be 18:00 on February 28, 2011. If you write me a reply on your test results for KMS on RC2 (whether it works or not) please include the following information (KMS: whether Xorg initializes graphics mode correctly): * your graphics card model including output of "hwinfo --gfxcard" * kernel (uname -r) * tested monitors + connectors/ports (HDMI, DVI, VGA, integrated) (if a problem exists also look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log whether there is a message like wrong EDID checksum (extended display identification record)) * actual result: (1) garbeled screen (pixelry/vertical colorful lines) - (2) black screen - (3) Xorg returns after unsuccessful attempts to set a graphics mode (more than one attempt may be useful) - (4) others usage hints: * boot into runlevel 3/5: kernel parameter "3" ("5" start Xorg/graphics surface is standard) as entered in Grub, or a manual "init 5", "init 3" from a text console * use "xinit" instead of "init 5" - just starting an Xorg with xterm is much faster than booting into KDE/gnome - and the test results tend to be cleaner (leave xterm by 'exit') - use 'twm &' or 'kwin &' to enable moving or resizing your xterm * view the log: 'less /var/log/Xorg.0.log' - use "/EDID" + [n]/[N] to search for EDID related messages * if Xorg is started you can of course switch back to text console by [Alt][Ctrl]-[F1]/[F2]/.. - [F7]/[F8] is Xorg (see also: fgconsole, chvt, xinit xterm -- vt08) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help(a)opensuse.org

plea for testing kernel modesetting with RC2 / radeon

As the final release of openSuSE 11.3 is impending I would like to see graphics modesetting work. It will deter us a lot of users if Xorg can not enter graphics mode: unexperienced users are not capable of resolving such an issue. The mainline strategy I have followed lately is to keep UMS (user mode setting) still work for a while which would require FreeDesktop Bug 34544 to be resolved (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34544). However this does already require setting appropriate kernel options (nomodeset, radeon.modeset=0). If you have an ATI graphics card please tell me your card model (f.i. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700) and whether Xorg has problems initializing graphics mode. Thereby I hope to be able to infringe the problem to devise a new solution strategy; note: you must use the radeon display driver (as used by default) for testing KMS (kernel mode setting) - radeonhd and fglrx support UMS. Also write me your kernel version as returned by 'uname -r'. If you should only experience problems with some monitors this may be due to the EDID (extended display identification record) as to be found in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Then you can try to connect via an alternative connector (HDMI, DVI, VGA: all returning different EDIDs) or try to apply one of the two kernel patches supplied by Alex Deucher in this regard (perhaps you will see them in the final release). I plan to post additional information on deploying kernel patches and making commit requests at qa.elstel.com (This time simply use 'git apply --ignore-whitespaces xy.patch' on the kernel.src.rpm); see the thread at: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/process_bug.cgi to obtain the patches. If we all test it with RC2 then we will have comparable test results: very important as things with KMS have kept changing gradually since os11.2!
