10.2 -> 10.3 xen update test result

I have just updated my 10.2 XEN system to 10.3RC1 and found a few things. 1: It seems like /etc/udev/rules.d/30-net_persistent_names.rules is now called /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules by the /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/convert_persistent_name_rules script. I had a special rule to base eth0 on pci id instead of MAC, that rule got corrupt. SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", SYSFS{device}=="0000:00:07.0", IMPORT="/lib/udev/rename_netiface %k eth0" #got converted to SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTRS{address}=="0000:00:07.0", NAME="eth0" and that did of course fail since ATTRS should be device (I guess). On the good news side, it's a never version of forcedeth in 10.3 so I no longer need my custom rule. 2: XEN failures: After disabling autostart of the xen guests I booted the XEN version of the kernel. First issue is that my physical textscreen is 25x80 but stty reports 50x80 so I was very confused as to what was going on at first. After (blindly) logging in and typing "stty rows 25" the screen started to behave acceptable. Now I tried to start one of my domU with "vm create -c sato" but it did just hang, didn't get anything at all out on the screen. Looked around a little and it seems like the migration from xen 3.0 to 3.1 isn't that trivial and requires some work (RTFD for a start) I did also try to build a new domU using yast and for a start the interface makes it a lot harder then before since I have to type in the install source manually despite it's the same as dom0 (an nfs mount point). The install started but when it rebooted an error box came up that it was no kernel there. the only way until a later release to get a 10.3 guest is to create the disk image ahead of time dd if=/dev/urandom of=/var/lib/xen/images/VM/disk0 bs=1 count=1 seek=4G or stop the auto reboot at the end of stage one is to stop it and make sure that all of the partitions are unmounted properly. What happens is vm-install tries to mount the image read only after the first stage and since the partition wasn't unmounted properly it thinks something went wrong. As a result, vm-install backs out everything :( ... This has been fixed though, just not in RC1. How do I get a domU to "boot" from a .iso image? Given the current state of xen in 10.3 I find it just about useless. xen problems on 10.3RC1

I did upgrade a 10.2 system to 10.3RC1 and haven't had much luck with getting the guests running. My problem includes hangs of xend and guests. 1: Use Yast and create a new 10.3RC1 domU. At best I can get it to run the preboot part but (as other reported) then it can't boot for round2 because the kernel can't be found 2: after doing some things "xm" stops working, get a "Error: (9, 'Bad file descriptor')" for "xm list" etc. It seems to happen after I try to start a 10.2 guest but given that I haven't been able to create any 10.3 guest the "create" alone may be the issue. zypp abandoned the downloads after a timeout and a failed retry

Hi, I installed openSuSE 10.3 CR1 and downloaded codecs-kde.ymp from OSC to install the restricted extras. During the download process I got the 408 timeout error code for the bundle-lang-common-en-10.3-41.noarch.rpm packge. I was asked to click the Retry button but that failed and then I was prompted with a dialog with a close button. As a result I had to abort the process and run codecs-kde.ymp again. Update with a /boot partition, etc. from DVD

The update system has problems when there is a separate /boot partition. I was forced to create one when I installed an alpha because I use an LVM setup. But all the Betas botched the update by creating a new /boot directory on / (root). I had to copy the installed files (kernel, initrd, etc) to the /boot partition by hand. Not difficult, but for a newbie a real nightmare. Consider that the system boots from the /boot partition with the *not* updated* kernel, which will not find its modules. In general the update process sees just one /, all other mount points are neglected. The beta1 finally seems to give the option to add separate partitions for mount points, but it fails because it prepends /mnt to the directory set by the user. In my case, /dev/sdc1 is the /boot partition and that's what I inserted, but when I pressed OK, a popup complained that there was no /mnt/boot partition. Additionally, it is strongly needed to add the option to select on what disk grub will be installed, both to the install and update system. I, for an example, have two disks on this PC. The old one with openSuSE 10.2, and a new one for 10.3. I select in the BIOS which disk to boot from. When I installed and each time I update from DVD, I had to disconnect the old disk cable, because the kernel sees it as the first disk and will install grub there. Thanks for the otherwise excellent distro. It might reach the heights of SuSE 10.0, the best ever. Wireless Intel 4965AGN with WPA/PSK

Hi, I installed open suse 10.3 beta 3. After a week I managed to have the wireless working. Yesterday gnome update downloaded heaps of updates (I imagine is because of RC1) and now my wireless just won't work any more. good day! I'm a new user of openSuSE, but i know linux-system well.
