Hi Gnomies!
I just wanted to give you a heads up that last night, with the help of
mighty Darix, GNOME:Factory has been updated to version 3.1.5, which is
the latest release on the way to 3.2.
As always, 3.1.x is considered 'unstable', but in my experience it works
very well.
We will keep the packages for a few days in GNOME:Factory and hope to
hear of things breaking since the last update, sort those breaks out and
will forward the stack to openSUSE:Factory after that.
There are some changes on packaging level, coming from ABI and API
breaks.
The noteworthy ones are (Mails with more details will follow for each of
them):
* gnome-menus => Version 3.1.5 is ABI and API incompatible to the so
far included version 3.0.1. A compatibility package called
gnome-menus-legacy has been introduced.
* python-gobject (this is currenlty in GNOME:Factory AND also already in
devel:languages:python): python-gobject 2.90.x (on the road to 3.0)
changed from the 'old' gobject bindings to pure gobject-introspection
based bindings. Any application can only use one kind of binding at
once. As a migration path, the old version has been renamed to
python-gobject2 (as it was once in the past.. many packages still
buildrequire python-gobject2-devel). python-gobject is the new gi-based
binding.
Let's get the test systems up and rolling.. let's make sure everything
rocks our world!
Greetings,
Dominique / DimStar

Hi,
I don't use YaST a lot, but when I opened it on GNOME3 the window
width looks a bit small to me. I do find it somehow more pleasant to
see a bit bigger window without the icons so much unpacked.
Something like [1] would make it friendlier at least for me. If
there's any interest, I would go +1 for it.

Hi all,
I'm not sure if people are aware but Banshee 2.2.0 reads
%{_datadir}/banshee/stations for XSPF files to load default radio
stations. Ok I failed because I havne't checked if any is provided by
default, but...
... if Marketing, or any other is interested ... either to promote
media partners or any other reason and if there's no legal issues, we
can for sure provide a few open source friendly radio stations, maybe
get them upstreamed as well for default installs...
So if anyone has cool ideas to use this cool feature in favor of
openSUSE, I'm all in favor or using it...

Hi all,
As you might know, we had a GSoC student who worked on porting the
software center used in Ubuntu to openSUSE. There's a package here:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=software-center&project=hom…
This needs to be updated to the latest release, and possibly cleaned up
so we can push this to Factory. It's worth pointing out that, since we
do not generate the appstream xml data for openSUSE, it will not just
magically work, but this is something we could fix after 12.1 is
released, with an online update.
Any volunteer for that?
Cheers,
Vincent

Gents,
Sorry to post this here instead of open a bug, but I'm reminding this
now and I wish to be quick:
I noticed a bug, or at least "strange behaviour" on Nautilus under
openSUSE 11.4 x86_64, Gnome 3.0.2:
If you try to delete a folder by selecting the root folder tree on the
left of the window and click "move to trash" then Nautilus crashes.
Same folder deletion but now selecting a folder from the right pane of
the window, doesn't replicate the problem and selected folder went removed.
Cheers,

Hey,
GDM is apparently broken in GNOME:Factory right now: there's no way to
enter your password. It's fun, but doesn't help you use your computer.
For now, I advise you to either not upgrade gdm from GNOME:Factory (or
downgrade to the version in Factory), or to use autologin (the
DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN key in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager).
I doubt I'll be able to fix this tomorrow, so people are welcome to step
up to debug that. My quick guess is that this commit is the issue:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gdm/commit/?id=f91f017071ffa5f5999e6c2e2c0929e2…
It should be easy to test by adding a patch to revert this change.
Cheers,
Vincent

Hi Again Marcus,
Probably best you discuss this on opensuse-gnome (cc'd)
There was discussion at the GNOME 3 session at oSC which decided that it was highly likely we will be using the default theme in 12.1, but perhaps with Sonar-GTK3 packaged as an option
Since then, half-left, the person behind the Sonar-GTK3 port has got involved and is actively working to get Sonar working satisfactorily on GNOME 3.2.
At this stage, my opinion would be that it is possible, though unlikely, that Sonar-GTK3 will be ready enough to be considered to be the default for 12.1.
My creation of 'sonar-friendly' versions of my wallpapers was just my small effort to help half-left along.
AFAIK no "official" decision has been made.
I don't think the themes available or chosen by default by a DE should be a decision exclusively made by the -artwork team..

Hi all.
As we seem to tend to use a blue wallpaper this time, I would like to
propose NOT to use Sonar anymore.
Imho, Sonar was never really beautiful, It's way to dark and has some
strange colors.
I would rather like to stick with the GNOME 3 default theme which is
Adwaita. This one is compatible with nearly every design.

Marcus
PS: I know Vincent likes Sonar a lot, but I think he could also live
with Adwaita (listening to his GNOME heart :))

Anyway we can have gnome-utils installed by the default GNOME pattern? Why ?
* Default GNOME keybinds use some apps bundled on gnome-utils (ex: F12
opens "gnome-screenshot")
* More feature rich oriented for Desktop users
All the best,

Hi Developer,
I use GNOME 3 based on openSUSE 11.4, the 32-bit architecture with
kernel 3.0.4 ... Nividia Grafik-Hardware.
Am very happy with GNOME 3, have been using it very much and think that
the developers made a good job. The work with this desktop is for me
than years of "KDE-User" in places, still a little unusual, but it makes
more and more fun. "thumbs Up" ;-)
However, when I recently wanted to replace some icons, I found the
"alacarte" does not want to start.
Neither on the start icon, or from the console/terminal! However, output
in the terminal the following message:
Start Code:↓
~> alacarte
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/alacarte", line 36, in <module>
main()
File "/usr/bin/alacarte", line 32, in main

File "/usr/lib/python2.7/posixpath.py", line 65, in join
if b.startswith('/'):
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'startswith'
→ End Code!
In the Web to find tips on how to remove directories:↓
→ "./local/share/application", or this
→ "Re-Install" alacarte-package, or this
→ "./config/menus"
Resulted in empty and nothing changed.
Any other ideas?
Have a nice weekend!

I'm not the one to speak on behalf of the openSUSE GNOME, but this was
discussed previously on a GNOME Team meeting, and we considered the
option of changing default branding as long as the maintainer would
keep maintaining the package (due to potential G3 changes).
I'm not sure if people are aware, but 'Half-Left' has been working
closely with us to provide a full Sonar theme (GNOME Shell and GTK3).
Most people I've seen are thrilled with this, and it's a new life in
the GNOME channel.
Previously Vincent has requested for someone to port Sonar and use
it... Now that's it's done people want to bail out ?
I trully don't understand this... This shouldn't be decided on
ARTWORK, but instead with the GNOME Team, this is not the right
channel to override decisions and thoughts from the GNOME team people.
my 2 cents,

blood of tyrants and patriots" - Thomas Jefferson
