Hey, So it's that time of the year again, where we discuss shipping empathy as default IM client: https://features.opensuse.org/308281 As far as I can tell, the last unresolved issues we have with it are: + the handling of certificates, especially for groupwise + proxies As a reminder, empathy offers a better GNOME integration, as long as several cool features (share your desktop!), and has an intuitive UI. IMHO, if the certificate issue is really just for groupwise, we should ignore it. As for proxies, I'll let Dominique comment there. My guess, though, is that most people don't have to use proxies, so are not affected. People using proxies will know that they have to use one, and can use pidgin instead. What do you think? [opensuse-gnome] Why is it not possible to include Brltty daemon to The official Opensuse repository?

Dear core developers of Opensuse, I woulod like to valuably and with highest respect ask You, why it is not possible to include Brltty daemon to The Opensuse official repository? Brltty is depend on libicui and other libraries and it is really not easy to find compatible libraries to use brltty.rpm downloaded from The official Brltty WEB site. Susbblinux screen reader, eventhough it can be downloaded from repository, it supports only Com serial port and speech-dispatcher and if visually impaired user want to constructively cooperate with Your development team, without access to The console, it is not easy. For example, setting The necessary new values by using gconf. I would like to initiate constructive discussion about including Brltty to The official Opensuse repository. I know, that console based screen readers such as Yasr, Speakup are based on speech-dispatcher to be usable with sound cart and with Espeak synthesizer. Believe me, that i do not want to intrude You, but try to imagine, that You are no sight and You want to access The Opensuse console. Not many new computers are equipped with COM serial port and braille devices, which are using COM ports will be ralely used in future. If suseblinux is now more advanced and can use for example Tieman Braille Voyager connected throught The USB port, please let me know. By the way, i tested Suseblinux and i think, that it is one of The best awailable console based screen readers for Linux in general. It is simple and can reliably read many necessary information without user need to use many complex functions, which can be inwoked by various hod keys. But i found out, that Orca and Espeak are working reliably according to The my attempts, when i executed Orca from The console. And somebody of You modified Espeak and Pulseaudio, so The speech responsiveness is approximately 50 or 60 percent better than while working with Opensuse 11.2 live CD Gnome. So please, if it is not too expensive, would i please somebody of us to try to prepare Brltty.rpm for Opensuse? [opensuse-gnome] Upgraded to 2.30- Evolution Problems

Hi, I got upgraded to GNOME 2.30 this morning through the Factory/openSUSE_11.2 repo. Overall GNOME feels snappy and fast. But Evolution seems to be really borked up. [opensuse-gnome] Compiz desktop edge settings

Hi! The default settings in compiz enables the top-right desktop corner for "Scale: Initialise Window Picker". However this is quite a bad setting for those using maximised windows, since any slight movement of the mouse pointer away from the little "X" icon on the title-bar leads to the window picker being initialised instead. [opensuse-gnome] GNOME Updater Applet?

Hi all, A relative newcome to Opensuse-GNOME. Trying it out for my engineering requirements. I have a question regarding an updater applet for the GNOME variant. I know that KDE has an updater applet (not the PackageKit one), which provides a list of upgrades based on the repo priorities etc. Is there any such thing for GNOME? The PackageKit version shows dependency issues, as I have several OBS repos (GNOME: STABLE, Evolution, GNOME:Apps etc). I'd appreciate some assistance on this. Hi, I've prepared some preliminary (ie, completely untested by me ;-)) packages for tracker. They're available from GNOME:Apps, for 11.2 and Factory. I'd be great if some people could try them out a bit. I guess we might want to disable the indexer by default -- that would be a first change to do. Magnus, you submitted gwibber to openSUSE:FActory with: +- Added Requires: python-desktopcouch. But that package - and it's dependencies - is not yet in openSUSE:Factory. I propose to submit those packages first and only submit the new gwibber once all dependencies are checked in. [opensuse-gnome] Community Discussion - GNOME Edition

Aloha oh wondrous GNOME Community, Some may have noticed my blog posts trying to engage the wider openSUSE Community in discussion on ways of improving how we, the openSUSE Community, work and play. The shotgun approach of hitting the whole Community seems to be going a bit slow, so I thought I would try a different approach :-) So basically I'm looking to see what you the GNOME Community feel is missing, an issue, could be improved etc. Also crucially how do you think any of the issues can be resolved. As I mentioned in my blog posts, I am looking for a discussion and not a flame war. I am not in any power to resolve any issue that are present, but I do feel that we already have the tools at hand to fix most that we encounter. I will however put my noisy voice to as much use as possible and try and help out where I can. I do feel that sometimes we just shrug our shoulders and carry on regardless, and think "why bother we aren't going to get any help". If we don't make a sound case for why & how we need help there is no chance we will. So this is the first step in getting that help - defining what and how. Please help me and yourselves work out how best to improve life within openSUSE. If people would rather not make their concerns etc public, please feel free to contact me directly. Hello, In the days of fast boot and all that, I was wondering if many people see the value of having tomboy added to the panel by default. I, for one, always remove it from every new install I do. Do a lot of people use it frequently enough to justify that it is added by default? [opensuse-gnome] Random directory name when auto-mounting removable drive

Hello. I'm using openSUSE 11.2 with GNOME 2.28.2. I have unlabeled ext3 partition in my external, and it given random directory name such as 0eed9764-9e3f-42d8-8a92-2d19615b90df/ when auto-mounted by Nautilus. But when browsed using Nautilus with button-based location bar, it show directory name such as 65 GB Filesystem/. I would like more simple name, like when attaching it in KDE it will be labeled as disk/. I don't use any other distro beside openSUSE so I don't know whether this thing is GNOME specific or openSUSE specific. So is there possible to have more simple name other than 0eed9764-9e3f-42d8-8a92-2d19615b90df/ for unlabeled partition? Apologies if anyone gets this twice, i think it was rejected the first time: Hey, Personally, I use tomboy a lot. I'd use it even more if only I had a working synchronisation method for my laptop and work desktop. Now for something slightly more technical ;) The simplest way to decrease startup time is to AOT the mono assemblies and also the tomboy assemblies. This will also reduce memory usage if you have multiple mono applications running at the same time (banshee + tomboy anyone?) as the AOT'ed data can be shared exactly as if it were a standard native library. If someone is interested in getting some hard figures about required startup time they could benchmark: 1) Cold start tomboy (nothing is AOTed) 2) Cold start tomboy (AOT-ing all tomboy assemblies first) 3) Cold start tomboy (AOT-ing all .NET libraries as well as tomboy libraries first) 4-6) Warm start of the above. This is likely to be pretty time-consuming as the only way I know to reliably 'cold start' an application is to reboot ;) It would also require you to put in an "Application.Quit ()" inside tomboy so that as soon as everything loads, it exits, thus allowing you to easily measure the startup time. Dear All, I just saw that there was a new release of pidgin-facebookchat, a plugin for purple based IMs. The question remains though if we believe it's useful to continue providing this plugin, as facebook changed their rules and is now reachable using regular XMPP [0].
