Hi all. Why is not available SubpixelHinting for Gnome by default, as is in KDE? I found out that, when i want to enable subpixel for Gnome and Gtk apps(like Firefox, Thunderbird...), i have to reinstall cairo and mozilla-xulrunner190 packages for 11.0 and for 11.1 i have to reinstall cairo package from repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Fisiu/ If i´m correct, system-cairo option is disabled. Why? Any patents? If not, could it be available (not have to be enabled) by default for the next release 11.2? [opensuse-gnome] Making G:S:2.26 a bit more maintainable

Hi, At the moment, G:S:2.26 contains all the packages we have in G:F. I propose that we only keep there the packages for modules that follow the GNOME release cycle (and potential dependencies). This means we'd have a subset of the packages that live in G:F. This should help for a few reasons: + gives us a better/clearer overview of what we maintain there + less work for the build service + less updates for users If people like the idea, we can probably start by listing packages where the rdiff between openSUSE:11.1 and G:S:2.26 is empty. Hi all, Here is the thing: 1. I use gnome-main-menu a lot, but seldom use "Place". The reasons maybe: a) I use terminal a lot. b) The current default setting of Nautilus having the place at the left side. If I use Nautilus a lot, there will always running a Nautilus window. if the left side of the Nautilus window was not covered by other applications, one click is enough. if the left side of the Nautilus window was covered by other applications, "Atl+Table" and one click is my first choise. second choise requires 2 steps: 1. look at my panel and click on a Running Nautilus Button 2. click on the place at the left side of the Nautilus. But if I want to use gnome-main-menu to find the place, there required 3 steps: 1. look at my panel and click on the "Computer" 2. click the "Place" button. 3. click the needed place. If I don't use Nautilus a lot, gnome-main-menu will be helpful. But in this case, most time, I'm back to a). And a 'cd' command will be more helpful. Admitedly, the count of the steps did not mean all as each of the step I use in gnome-main-menu takes less time. I don't know what is the status in the others' usage. But I think I am not the target user of "Place". 2. I read articals and bugs about recently used files, the requirements were quit different: recently meeting, recently appointment, recently saved files. I have my own requirement and I guess some developers have the same one: recently bugs. hehe I'm working on replacing "Place" with "Bugs" in my gnome-main-menu. >From 1 and 2, the subject of this mail comes: what about make the gnome-main-menu pluginable, recently app, recently document, recently ..... Hi, It seems the call for volunteers for mentioning bugs works fine: someone mentioned a bug and it got fixed ;-) More seriously, I'd love to see a bug section in the status mail where we'd have some stats about the current number of bugs, and some information about the new bugs that have been opened. And I need help to do that. G:F === A couple of things worth to mention this week: + the long-standing bundle-lang-gnome build issue on 11.1 (that was also affecting G:S:2.26) got fixed. + ekiga (and ptlib/opal) are now maintained in G:F. I've updated them to the latest upstream version. And I can see right now that opal failed to build on 11.1 ;-) + fate#305318 is now implemented. This means that we should lose a good bunch of rpmlint warnings about gconf schemas files being in /etc. This lead to a few build failures, but I think I fixed all of them. + some minor version updates, bug fixes, package cleanups... Note that next week we will see GNOME 2.27.1, which means quite some packages to update. Are you ready for this? :-) Things are building right now, but I think we have two build issues: + beagle-index: - for Factory, it's still because xorg-x11-Xvnc is not there, but it should come back - for 11.1, we have "nothing provides gtksourceview-lang = 2.4.0 needed by gtksourceview". Not quite sure why this is happening, but it should be fixable. + opal on 11.1, as already mentioned. We need a patch to make the code less ambiguous, apparently. Packages to update: + NetworkManager stack/PulseAudio stack: someone tried to update NM and quickly gave up. I think we really need Tambet and Scott here. + epiphany: I gave it a try, but I stopped because epiphany-extensions will fail to build. So waiting for upstream. + gnome-do: Luis said he'd do it, but no news. + gobby: I invested some time today to look at it. The packages that are in home:FunkyM:branches:GNOME:Factory look mostly good. But I think we might want to keep both gobby 4.x and gobby 4.99, and make them parallel-installable since the new one is still in development, and users need to interoperate with the old one. We can discuss this on IRC. + libgda: blocking on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580821 + libtasn1: (no change) the new version removes libtasn-config, which could break many things. Maybe we should create libtasn2 instead? + monsoon: Odd-rationale is working on this. G:S:2.26 ======== 2.26.1 is there, thinks look quite good. Stanislav mentioned some bugs: + the keyring daemon is still an issue from time to time. We need help to debug this (stack trace is essential) + 100% CPU with vino. My guess is that this is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579355 + ask for password to reboot/shutdown. I have a ConsoleKit update to fix this in home:vuntz:11.1-testing. Can people try it and confirm it fixes the bug? I would like to propose extended split of GNOME:* package in addition to the solution discussed in past: GNOME:STABLE:{version}: Only the desktop and applications with GNOME release cycle or otherwise tightly related with GNOME. I guess this repository is a bit over-populated. GNOME:Backports:{version}: Other updates needed for seamless GNOME {version} work. Any packages can be placed there. Limiting build for affected distributions is possible as well. GNOME:Applications or GNOME:Applications_Factory (or any other name): GNOME or GTK+ applications that are not part of GNOME project. It can be a primary development place for these packages instead of GNOME:Factory multimedia:libs: Move there multimedia libraries and gstreamer. If their update is required, link or aggregate can be done to GNOME:Backports:{version}. Benefits: - Don't provide unchanged copy of particular package in many repositories. - Easy to update just the desktop. - gstreamer has nothing to do with GNOME. Its backport often requires several dependent library backports. All of them will be probably in multimedia:libs, but not in GNOME:*. Particular packages list that should go away: festival psiconv maybe intltool - These packages were added as backport for SuSE Linux 10.0 or so and stayed there up to now. Hi all, This is a warning for everybody using G:F, especially the people using G:F to get GNOME 2.26 on 11.1 (in which case you should really just use G:S:2.26). I'm about to do some changes in gconf2 to implement the fate entry about moving gconf .schemas files to /usr (instead of /etc) [1]. It should work fine, but, well, to be sure it works, we need some testing and G:F is the best place for this. So, two things: + if you use G:F to have stable GNOME, you should not use G:F :-) + if you use G:F to help testing latest GNOME, please tell us about any potential weird gconf-related bug you see in the next few days. Hi, First, a small call for volunteers: if you see new bugs in bugzilla that should be mentioned in weekly status mails, ping me. G:F === 2.26.1 has been in G:F for nearly a week and it's working fine, it seems. So I pushed it to oS:F yesterday. Just FYI, libproxy was split in two spec files (libproxy and libproxy-plugins) to stop a build loop: libproxy-libsoup-libwebkit-libproxy-libsoup-libwebkit etc. Nearly everything is compiling in G:F. The two outstanding errors are: + beagle-index: fails because of "nothing provides xorg-x11-Xvnc needed by tightvnc, nothing provides xorg-x11-Xvnc" for Factory. Not sure if this is temporary or not... The 11.1 build is failing because of bundle-lang-gnome. + bundle-lang-gnome on 11.1: it's a long story with gnome-phone-manager, gnome-bluetooth, gnokii, etc. We need to figure out what to do here soon. Packages to update: + NetworkManager stack: I guess everybody is hoping Tambet will do it ;-) + epiphany/metacity: there are 2.27 versions there. Waiting for G:S:2.26 to have 2.26.1 + gnome-do: Luis said he'd do it + gnucash: we have a submission, I told the submitted to fix a small thing + gobby: I finally asked for help on opensuse-packaging to review libinfinity. Once this is done, things should go smoothly + libgda: waiting for G:S:2.26 to have 2.26.1, I guess + libtasn1: (no change) the new version removes libtasn-config, which could break many things. Maybe we should create libtasn2 instead? + monsoon: Andrew said he'd do it + pulseaudio stack: Scott will probably look at it. G:S:2.26 ======== Magnus will push 2.26.1 from G:F to G:S:2.26. He'll publish somewhere notes on how he did it so it's easy to do again in the future (although in the near future, we'll have 2.27 in G:F, so next time will probably be 2.28.1) Rumours say that the keyring bug that was hurting a few people is fixed with 2.26.1 in G:F, so that would announce the end of the last big issue in G:S:2.26. Hallo. It would be nice to have a central place for multimedia libraries and codecs. Nowadays they are spread over many home:*:Factory projects. GStreamer primary development project is even GNOME:Factory and it is frozen in GNOME:STABLE:*, even if it has nothing to do with GNOME release cycle. It means that it's hard to upgrade multimedia stuff like GStreamer on released products and even test new libraries. That is why I would like to propose new repository: multimedia:libs This repository should contain latest version of multimedia libraries and codecs. It should be preferred Factory devel project for this type of packages. It is not intended for multimedia applications. It should be built for released products, so other projects can easily resource it if appropriate. I volunteer to start with my packages and GStreamer. AFAIK, we're missing gdm (because there's a patch that needs some investigation -- hpj, can you look at the gdm-xauthlocalhostname.patch patch and see if it's still needed in 2.26.1?) and evo/eds (well, we have 2.26.1, but not 2.26.1.1) It's all compiling right now, but please test when it's ready. Packages to update: + NetworkManager stack: I guess everybody is hoping Tambet will do it ;-) + avahi: shouldn't be hard. Any volunteer? + epiphany/metacity: there are 2.27 versions there. We are waiting a bit, but we might want to go ahead + gnome-do: should be straightforward. We might also want to add gnome-do-plugins. Any volunteer? + gnucash: I know Magnus looked at this. [opensuse-gnome] Metacity won't use the GTK colors?!

Hi, so i have been using OpenSUSE for a while as a virtual macine/dev lab/dev machine, for a while, but there's one thing, It does not seem to be possible to get metacity to use the colors as the GTK theme "tells" it to use? usually becomes some black or dark green default color instead? is this some known bug/issue? i know its been like this for 11.x but im not sure about 10.x cant remember... Hey, So after today's meeting (and the various things that people did after), I think we have a better view of the G:S:2.26 status. It looks like most issues just come from the fact that people were not using all packages from G:S:2.26. By default the updates repository has a priority of 20 while the repositories you manually add (like G:S:2.26) have a priority of 99. At least that's what I had on my test install. And the lowest value means highest priority. So we need to document this clearly. Do we have a wiki page explaining how to install GNOME 2.26? Federico updated the X server in G:B:2.26, so the 100% CPU bug should also be gone. That leaves us with the gnome-keyring issue and nothing else, as far as I know.
