I'm trying to collect some tutorials. The idea behind the tutorials
is to help promote and help people on openSUSE. suseROCKS and sontek
are helping out with this and we are hoping to work together with this
project (opensuse-tutorials.com) and helping hands.
Thanks,
Stephen ( decriptor )

Hi
I'm now running the what-would-be pulseaudio 0.9.11 a.k.a glitch-free,
which I've packaged in my home:rodrigomoya:pulseaudio repository.
The server is refusing to build the package now because of some rpmlint
problems, so if you want to test it (please :-), just get the package
with osc and build it locally until I fix the server problems:
$ osc co home:rodrigomoya:pulseaudio pulseaudio-glitchfree
$ cd home:rodrigomoya:pulseaudio/pulseaudio-glitchfree
$ osc build --no-verify openSUSE_11.0 i586 pulseaudio.spec
(replace openSUSE_11.0 with openSUSE_Factory if running FACTORY, and
i586 with x86_64 if running on 64 bit)
Any feedback appreciated, I will submit this to FACTORY in the next few
days (if my testing goes well).

Hi
This next Friday (Jul 18th) we'll be holding a patch tagging and
upstreaming day, with the intention of reducing the number of patches in
our packages and marking clearly what all patches do.
This will start at around 10AM CET and will last all day.
It is also a good opportunity to test and learn the new build service
collaboration features, since we will be tagging the packages in the
build service FACTORY project.
So anyone interested in both learning about the new BS features and
helping in tagging/upstreaming patches in GNOME packages, please poke me
on IRC and I'll try to coordinate people.

Hallo.
I am getting a lot of bug messages, that GNOME:STABLE breaks other
packages in older distributions (e. g. zypp for 10.3).
Because there was no discussion about the GNOME:* reorganization, I want
to raise this topic again.
I want to propose splitting of the repository to fix these issues to
these repositories:
GNOME:GTK_STABLE: Safe to update packages from here. Optional, may be
part of GNOME:STABLE. For gtk2, glib2, atk, pango,
cairo...
GNOME:GTK_UNSTABLE: Unsafe but consistent. Optional.
(or maybe name it GNOME:GTK_NEXT or so)
GNOME:STABLE: Safe to update packages from here. Official GNOME
packages only (GNOME release cycle).
GNOME:UNSTABLE: Unsafe but consistent. Optional.
(or maybe name it GNOME:NEXT or so)
GNOME:APPLICATIONS: Set of GNOME applications and GNOME application
libraries.
In all repositories above, no updates of dependent non-GNOME package
will be allowed!
openSUSE.org:GNOME:Factory: Until this scheme will settle, it will
follow the Factory.
All other packages: Identify, drop and find a way, how to provide safe
update where it is required.
Benefits of this:
- No more broken distro packages.
- Easy to switch Factory to the next GNOME
- Easy to identify packages.
If there are no complains, I will start with changes in the near future.

Thanks to help from Sandy...
Last week's inaugural Helping Hands event was a great success. We saw
new people stop by the channel and there were some positive comments
afterwards. Let's give a big round of applause to all who participated
by offering their expertise, especially Vincent and Rodrigo who really
helped to get the ball rolling.
The transcript is at
http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/HowTos/HH_Transcripts/06272008
Our next scheduled event is next week Friday, July 11 and our guests
will be thorsten and rodo_ (mental note... get their real name so I can
credit them properly) who will present on tips and tricks of OpenOffice
and represent the Go-OO team.
After that, on July 18, we will have Lakhil and Abharath leading the
Evolution team talking about 10 things you didn't know about Evolution.
See you all there, and spread the word about Helping Hands!
