[opensuse-gnome] GNOME: repository maintenance

Hello With the imminent release of openSUSE 11.0, it's time once again to take a good look at our repositories in the Build Service. JP, Dirk from the KDE team, and I discussed this earlier today, and we've come up with the following proposal. (To be fair, it was Dirk who did, and he convinced JP and me that he was right. ;) He proposed a very similar organization for KDE here: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2008-06/msg00010.html) * GNOME:STABLE - This will contain GNOME roughly as shipped with the last shipped version of openSUSE. So, Real Soon Now (tm) it will contain GNOME 2.22.x. The term "STABLE" can cause some confusion, so to clarify, it means a distribution of GNOME that we have deemed stable, tested, etc. As such, it may sometimes lag the most recent release released as stable by upstream. * GNOME:Factory - Here is where development for the next version of openSUSE will happen. We've made some previous attempts to do our development in the Build Service that were not so successful, for a variety of reasons. But this time, with improved tools and greater determination, I think we can make it work for real. http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Collaboration describes some of the Build Service's new capabilities. I'm looking forward to seeing good stuff coming in now that it's so much easier to contribute changes. * GNOME:UNSTABLE - I expect this project to lie fallow most of the time. * GNOME:Community - This project will continue as is. [opensuse-gnome] Subpixel hinting does not work on openSUSE 11.0

Hi there! I installed modified freetype packages with subpixel hinting included, but the problem is that Gnome Terminal is the only GNOME application for which subpixel hinting works. It works just fine for non GNOME applications. I'm using openSUSE 11.0 x86_64. Does anyone experienced the same problem? If so, is there any workaround or something we could solve the problem? Please consider what areas of setup you'd like to talk about that would be of interest to new users of openSUSE-GNOME. After tomorrow's regularly scheduled weekly meeting, I'd like to meet with you to quickly review what you all will be talking about. Hi, I'm taking the initiative to sift through all our pages on the Wiki, as seen via http://en.opensuse.org/Category:GNOME link. I've done minor edits, such as cleaning up improper links, etc. Nothing major. (Please note, these pages have the GNOME Category tag on them. Any pages without the tag, I probably don't know about and would bet there's more GNOME pages out there.) Below are some of the things I'd like feedback/comments on as to whether they should be cleaned up/rearranged. - http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/Community_Inclusion_Policy This page is marked as a draft. - http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/Community/Policy. This page is marked as a draft. - http://en.opensuse.org/Category:GNOME There are a series of articles about the GNOME Updater. But they are not under /GNOME/, but rather at http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME_Updater_Applet. If these pages are still relevant, I'd like to move them to be under /GNOME/ so everything is in one place. - http://en.opensuse.org/Category:GNOME There are a series of bug related articles, such as /Bugs, /BugDays, /MainMenuBugWeek. I'd like to move them all so they fall under /GNOME/Bugs/ There's more pages than I've listed here that I'd like to look at as well, but can we start with these? I'd like to add more sub-page categories, such as /GNOME/Software/, /GNOME/Developers/, /GNOME/Community, etc. and then organize the remaining pages under these categories. The GNOME Team will host its first Helping Hands event this coming Friday, June 27th at 14:30 UTC in the #opensuse-gnome IRC channel on the FreeNode Network. This will be an extended two-hour event where various members of the GNOME team will talk about different features of the GNOME desktop and offer assistance in setting up your custom environment. We'll soon launching the Helping Hands Project. http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/HowTos Our goal is to provide weekly live-discussion meetings on a variety of topics related to GNOME user experience. Users will be able to meet Helping Hand Experts who can answer questions and offer insight on how to make the most of their openSUSE-GNOME experience. The success of this program depends on ... YOU! This is "COMMUNITY" in its most perfect description. Thanks to everyone who showed up today. Despite my hardware failures (I lost a fan and baked my processor), we reviewed about 100 bugs today in an 8 hour span. Everyone who turned out worked very hard and I really appreciate the effort! Just for reference, I've posted a quick guide to how I ran the meetings. Hello all, I have reason to reconsider my cooperation with the openSUSE-GNOME team as it appears, that fruitful and honest cooperation is not wanted. jpr seems to be content to fiddle with bug reports to his hearts content and does not deem it necessary to apologize if critized for it. Instead critical remarks get edited out, to be seen at Bug 395445 Bug 394408 If jpr does not restore the remarks and apologizes for censoring them I no longer see fit to cooperate and will drop weekly duties. There are now openSUSE_11.0 repositories available in the Build Service and I plan to add it to GNOME:Community but just wanted to take a quick (unscientific) straw poll first. There's 11.0 or 11.0+Updates - I'd prefer to add the updates repo as ideally, that's what people will be using (lets hope people keep their systems up to date anyway) but if the tide of opinion is heavily the other way, I'll just add the standard 11.0 repo. Hallo. I would like to propose a new repository (repositories) for several types of artwork: Branding I am thinking about subprojects with particular brandings. First planned item is the "Example" branding template. Proposing: Branding:Example or Artwork:Branding:Example Wallpapers and backgrounds It would be nice to package popular Propaganda abstract wallpapers set altogether with desktop integration stuff (KDE+GNOME wallpapers, nautilus background patterns,...). Proposing: Artwork or Artwork:Wallpapers Themes and metathemes Maybe bad idea. Could be GNOME:Themes, KDE:Themes or Artwork:GNOME, Artwork:KDE. Technical topic: Some of these project would be completely distro independent.
