If you look at the status of the voiceglue package in the network:telephony project on openSUSE_Factory, you will see the build failed because "missing repositories: devel:languages:perl/openSUSE_Factory": https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=voiceglue&project=network%3… Here's why.... This RPM needs perl-ExtUtils-CBuilder to build, which is provided by project devel:languages:perl. So it contains an _aggregate: <aggregatelist> <aggregate project="devel:languages:perl"> <package>perl-ExtUtils-CBuilder</package> </aggregate> ... </aggregatelist> But for some reason the "devel:languages:perl" names their factory repository "SUSE_Linux_Factory" instead of "openSUSE_Factory". My questions are: (a) How do I tell the OBS to look in "openSUSE_Factory" instead of "SUSE_Linux_Factory"? (b) Why in the world is that project using a non-standard name? Thanks, -Archie -- Archie L. I asked all these questions and more to Darix (mrueckert) and he patiently answered them :-) When you put another project as a dependency of your project in the metadata it will allow your packages to build, but then when someone tries to use your repo to install your package those dependencies will not be supplied if they are needed as "Requires" forcing the user to go off in search of those dependencies too. When you "link" a particular package into your project it is rebuilt which takes up resources on the Build Service but is usefull if you want one of IT'S dependencies to be supplied by a package in your project without touching its spec, or if you want to build for a target which is not enable in it's home project. Once built the package is uploaded to the mirrors which also takes up mirror resources, and it also will have a different build version number which means that you may (or may not) randomly upgrade existing packages of the same name on your users system.. When you "aggregate" a particular package into your project it is not rebuilt, but rather copied directly from its home project. It keeps the same version number, so when it is uploaded to mirrors it does take up resources on them but it will not replace the same package if already installed on a users system (from the parent project). This is the preferred and cleanest way of sucking in a few extra dependencies to your project. I hope that makes things clearer. [opensuse-buildservice] fedora-release in default installs

Hi, Would it be possible to include the fedora-release package in the Fedora repos by default? This would include the /etc/rpm/macros.dist file, which includes the macros %fedora and %fc9 and %fc8. This package is usually installed automatically when installing Fedora through the usual process. It would make it possible to write spec files that build on multiple distros, both inside and outside the Opensuse Build Service. The %fedora_version macro available on OBS is not available on a regular Fedora9 install. I see in my home project home:lmich expansion error for dist 10.2: expansion error nothing provides xorg-x11-libxcb-devel needed by xosd-devel I have already added substitution in my prjconf: osc meta prjconf home:lmich %if 0%{?suse_version} < 1030 Substitute: xorg-x11-libxcb-devel xorg-x11-devel Substitute: plib-devel plib ... Is it a bug in BS or I'm missing something? Thanks for your hints. Hi folks, after some discussions and thinking I propose to clean up the obs config setup as described below. The configs are a little messy, each service doing his own stuff in his own way (just like logging and monitoring, but that's another story). Now here's the challenge I have: The config is central to each service, if I mess it up, it doesn't work any more, and it's easy to mess it up because there is tiny bits of background knowledge you need to have about e.g. rails, and how things are related. So I'm somewhat reluctant to start patching things and messing around with them. I'd like to propose a new scheme anyhow and get hints from you how to migrate there. Proposal: Each service has two or more small config files below /etc/obs, a '.public' one, an optional '.private' one, and if needed additional '.whatsoever' ones. /etc/obs/$SERVICE.{public,private,...} where $SERVICE is one of api webclient scheduler srcserver reposerver worker sign dispatcher publisher hermes The '.public' files are simply copied to all machines that need to know about this specific service. for example the api talks to a local database which belongs just to this api server, so this is configured in /etc/obs/api.private. However the api hostname is needed by several services, so that's in /etc/obs/api.public. Another example are the workers. They need to register with dispatchers and need to talk to srcservers and reposervers, so they read the /etc/obs/{dispatcher,srcserver,reposerver}.public and find all they need in there. I'm unbiassed wether to use yaml or ini style config files, lightweight and full parsers for each exist in all scripting languages, The one thing I know for sure though is that I hardly can clean up the phletora of hard coded URLs and addresses all over the place without breaking everything :( S. =================================================================== I did a little search on candidates that need to use the config. [opensuse-buildservice] Identify the repository a package comes from

Hi, Is there any way to identify the repository a package bellongs to? The input data is a package with 'openSUSE Build Service' vendor tag in the header. The only way which comes to my mind is to check the GPG key the package is signed with (since it's unique for a repo) and afterwards map that key to a repository. But is there any 'map' actually available? And another question, is it possible to get a package bugowner by any means except parsing the output of 'osc meta'? [opensuse-buildservice] Missing configurations files for fedora repos

Hi, I am installing a local instance of OBS and while following the instructions to do that I noticed that in /usr/lib/obs/server/build/configs/ there exist many config files for opensuse and other distros but not fedora. Are config files for fedora available somewhere else or is there some other reason why they are missing? [opensuse-buildservice] Fedora package selection

Hi, This is a question from a Build Service newbie... I'm hoping to use the Build Service to compile multi-platform binaries of the Barry project (http://sf.net/projects/barry), as I'm the upstream developer. There are 3 parts to Barry, one of which is a GUI that depends on packages such as libglademm24-devel to build. These packages are usually available by default, via yum, in Fedora 8, but they don't appear to be available in the Fedora:8 repository in the Build Service. I'm sure I'm just looking in the wrong place. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
