When I run gnome-activity-journal I see no events. Possibly this is because if I go to preferences / plugins I see nothing listed? Should I see plugins? Are they required? Dear All, I have been trying to use kdm-gdmcompat with the latest version of GNOME shipping with RC1: http://opensource.fsmi.uni-karlsruhe.de/projects/kdm-gdmcompat/ Essentially, the program listens on the gdm_socket that is usually used to comunicate to GDM, and passes the command to KDM. My goal is to use it to switch users when using Gnome as a desktop environment but KDM as display manager. Unfortunately, the thing is not working. If I look at the logs, no signal is received on the socket when switching user from the gnome menu. Since I find no documentation online, does anyone know if GDM 3.2 still using the socket to communicate? [opensuse-gnome] Gnome 3 Themes

Gents, Are following some very personal impressions and comments about current Gnome 3 Themes (desktop and gnome-shell) available for openSUSE (11.4 and Factory). IMO the default Adwaita is not a very nice Theme and its default settings are a bit ugly since the height of title bar is too big. For this I modified the standard configuration by following this very interesting article: http://blog.fpmurphy.com/2011/03/customizing-the-gnome-3-shell.html Then I switched permanently to Atolm Theme, which I like much more and I would like to find it as default on 12.1. The other detail I think is lacking for Gnome 3 is little availability for customization for Gtk+ Theme. In Tweak Tools-->Interface (for 11.4) settings we have just Adwaita and Raleigh, when we could have much more options and especially a way to install more Themes also through the Internet. The care of details for a Desktop Environment is the key users have to choose one brand in place of other and so far Gnome 3 (despite I like it and use as default) is a bit far to be as good as its predecessor. Hi All, During the GNOME 3.0 discussions at oSC, the issue of limited access to shutdown & hibernate commands came up during the session. I suggested the idea of using the gnome-shell-extension-alt-status-menu by default to give our users Shutdown and Hibernate alongside Suspend in their status menu. At the time, two valid points were made in the defence of keeping our GNOME 3.x installation the same as upstream To paraphrase, they were "Suspend by default makes perfect sense for laptops" and "The ACPI power button works and gives the user opportunity to shutdown" Based on this discussion, my suggestion was to look into the possibility of having the extension installed by default but only on desktops. Atri/badshah400 and others have been helping but this is proving to be rather difficult, with dirty hacks or purposefully causing package conflicts being the only two 'solutions' which should work, neither of which are any good. Furthermore, GNOME 3.2 has changed the situation - the power button's default behaviour is now to suspend, and unlike in gnome 3.0 there is no user-accessible way for this change. This means we are heading towards a 12.1 release with no easy way for our GNOME 3.2 users to shutdown or hibernate their machine. [opensuse-gnome] No YaST installed when I installed Gnome 3 from the promo DVD

Hello team, I installed Gnome 3 during an event on a laptop. I used the promo dvd (the blue one). Well after the installation, I didn't find YaST. I did zypper se yast and I found that I had yast2-gtk installed. I couldn't run yast on terminal as well. How do I install YaST in such occasion? I'm familiar on installing repositories on graphical interface. Hi All, I recently updated my gnome 3.0 to gnome3.2 on openSUSE 11.4. As soon as I updated I faced the following problems. 1. I was not able to login, and when I added acpi=off as a parameter, it worked well but only in fall back mode. 2. I was not able to connect to the network. When I went to system settings->network. Dear All, I would like to try and install BURG on my machine. To that end, I am looking for a source rpm package of BURG. It doesn't mater if it is not the latest version, I just want to take a look at the spec file and use it to build mine. I found no trace of a BURG rpm either in the normal repository or the Build Service. I was wondering if someone can provide me with one. Even if it's not an OpenSUSE ntaive package (say, it comes from Fedora or Mandriva), I would still be happy. Of course once I finish my work I will make the rpm available to anyone on the Build Service. Can someone help me, please? Hi, I find a issue in gnome-shell on openSUSE 12.1 Beta 1 (Factory), > rpm -q gnome-shell gnome-shell-3.2.0-1.1.x86_64 > cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE 12.1 Beta 1 (x86_64) VERSION = 12.1 CODENAME = Asparagus When I go to 'Activities', then type any words on that, then gnome-shell is crashing, but finally it's coming back to normal desktop (and opened windows does not crash/terminated). Is this known issue? I think I should give a fine backtrace to fill a new bug (BNC) so developer can easier to solve this issue. Then I feel I find a good howto[0] to debug it, but I can not see this produces an output as expected because I fail to see anything happen after running 'Second' step (. ~/bin/xenv.sh) -- of course I can not move then to 'Third' step. Hi all, First, please do not reply to add another bug to this list, unless you're really 100% sure it belongs there. If everybody just sends his/her favorite bug, we won't have a short list of bugs that we should focus on. I've been looking at our bug reports in the last few days, and here is what I believe we should really get fixed one way or another: NetworkManager: broken privilege handling https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713639 => clearly a blocker, marked as such. Likely the most annoying bug everyone seens right now. There's a known workaround, and Ludwig has been proposing patches upstream. But it probably needs more love... gnome3: battery indicator gives wrong numbers https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717814 => this would be a blocker imho. It's really unclear why this is happening. Needs debugging; some was done upstream already. http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/?id=9067689839cbf163a2f7ffbf… might help. [fallback] Installer icon not visible on GNOME LiveCD https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702671 => embarassing one, as people who won't have gnome-shell will have a hard time installing openSUSE (installer is in the menu, but it's not discoverable). Should get fixed by adding an icon to the top panel when running in the live session. Bluetooth completely broken (at least in GNOME) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722722 => we need at least some patch to avoid crashes, and then we need to figure out if things work or not. But things are not looking good on my system :/ cheese and totem crash without 3d acceleration https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716357 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717136 => they both use clutter now. They should at least not crash, though, and possibly display a small error dialog. There's a question from the security team there, and moving there would help. gnomesu: GIO_LAUNCHED_DESKTOP_FILE support https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=710459 => this is what makes yast icons ugly in the overview mode, at least I believe so. It should be "just" a matter of forwarding this environment variable via gnomesu (and xdg-su) to the yast process. Add YaSt icon in gnome-control-center shell (not filed) => we would need this to make yast more discoverable We need people to help fix those bugs. They won't just get magically solved. Hi, Since I just got 3 people reporting the issue on IRC, let me warn everyone here: GNOME is broken in Factory right now. It's because of the telepathy-glib version we have in Factory has a bad bug. A new telepathy-glib is on its way to Factory (already in G:F, although G:F is not published yet). Avoid libtelepathy-glib0 0.15.6; try to stay with the old version (should work, untested) or get the 0.15.7 version (fixes the issue). It is a bit confusing, but <http://www.gnome.org/getting-gnome> points to <http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0>. The first page is 'promoting' GNOME 3.2, but the page it points to only provides 3.0. It seems clear, to me anyway, that the text makes it clear that the opensuse.org page is clearly about 3.0. The error [such that it is an 'error] is on the gnome.org site. Hi All, Along the same vein as the decision to include Shotwell by default,I would like to propose the removal of Tracker from the default GNOME installation pattern in 12.1 Unlike previous versions, tracker is no longer well integrated into GNOME - it is not used by the gnome-shell search which largely replaces the SLAB search from our G2. Desktop indexers also do not appear to be as popular as they once were (Google Desktop is being pulled, etc) Desktop indexers can be horrific drains on performance, I think if we remove tracker from our default 12.1 install any newcomers will be pleasantly surprised at the performance improvements Of course, I'd still like it in the repositories - so people can install if they want and upgraders can keep their tracker functionality Thoughts?
