Hi, I noticed two bugs, gwibber although in the oss repo when it installs it is not dependant on python-wnck package. Therefore after succesfull installation one can not launch gwibber as per below: -- Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/gwibber", line 10, in <module> import sys, gtk, optparse, dbus, wnck, time ImportError: No module named wnck -- Second bug is the package python-wnck is not available anywhere(I can find) therefore the package gwibber is not usable at all. Hi, I was trying to package one of the Novell packages for openSUSE 11.3 . It depends on gnome-libs-devel pacakge. I could not find the gnome-libs-devel package in 11.3 repositories. It was available in 11.1, 11.2, SLED11SP1 etc. Is this package dropped because some other package provides the functionalities ? Hi, Here's a quick summary of new/removed packages from the GNOME repos in the last few days. Unless mentioned otherwise, all those changes have been submitted (and sometimes already accepted) to Factory. I'll also put a list of things we should try to package this week and next week. I'm not talking about what has changed since a lot has changed in the past two weeks. We more or less have GNOME 2.31.6 now, with many other upstream versions for other apps. It's now completely replaced by glade3. - glitz: old (and unmaintained for years) cairo GL backend. [opensuse-gnome] Why don't my apps that need g-s-d cause it to autostart?

Guys, In nearly all my other desktops (fluxbox, e16, e17, icewm, etc..) I have always started the gnome-settings-daemon independently as one of the startup programs for each of the desktops. It provides the gnome-screensaver and makes all the gtk apps look right. To my surprise, you can't start g-s-d anymore in opensuse 11.3 and have it provide the normal g-s-d services when it is launched as part of another desktop (fluxbox, e16, e17, icewm, etc..) -- Why Not?? When I start gsd, a process is registered in the process table because I can see it with ps ax, but it doesn't do anything it is supposed to. GTK apps all look pitiful and no screensaver, no nada.... It looks like the g-s-d process just sits there and doesn't respond to any of the apps or desktop calls that need it services anymore. Up until opensuse 11.3, g-s-d was bulletproof. For example, as part of my fluxbox 'startup' config, I include the following: ## Make GTK apps look and behave how they were set up in the gnome config tools if test -x /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon >/dev/null; then /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon & fi ## start the Gnome clipboard manager if which parcellite >/dev/null; then $(which parcellite) & fi ## Synaptic touchpad 1.5 second delay after typing if which tpad >/dev/null; then $(which tpad) fi <snip> In 10.2 -> 11.2 this worked great and provided the gnome screensaver. No, from what I can tell, having g-s-d running does nothing. From the suse list Spok/I mean Data/no I mean Will Stephenson helped peel back my layers of confusion and show that <Spok quote> Sure enough there is no app called gnome-settings-daemon in $PATH when the eponymous package is installed. Looking at the RPM file list, 2 things stand out: an executable in /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon and a service definition in /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.service This tells me that g-s-d is now a DBUS service that is started on demand. Sure enough, # qdbus org.gnome.SettingsDaemon / /org /org/gnome /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon showing that trying to access the daemon causes it to start. So the question for the gnome list is, "why don't my apps that need g-s-d cause it to autostart?" </Spok quote> And the follow-on is "Why don't my apps that need g-s-d get services from it and why doesn't it launch the screensaver anymore?" This has to be affecting the gnome-sawfish program as well, so what gives? What can we do to get this fixed? What can we use as an interim as a workaround? Thanks.. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hi, Dominique has submitted his branch with tons of changes to G:F, and we will start accepting the changes shortly. I highly recommend that people using G:F do not upgrade in the next few days unless they really know what they're doing :-) It should all still work fine, but since we don't know yet... [opensuse-gnome] Pet Peeves in GNOME

Hi! I hope this is taken in the right spirit, but I wanted to list a few of my pet peeves with the GNOME desktop in openSUSE. I want to do this so that I can help get these fixed [by tracking in upstream bugs, openSUSE bugs or trying to see if I can fix them so on], hopefully by the next release. I think it would be a good thing to list the minor problems GNOME users face generally or in openSUSE alone, and I will list them somewhere in the Wiki [probably just in my user page first], so that we can start looking into these issues very early for the next version of openSUSE. Let us just keep this list to minor usability issues, so that something like "YaST-GTK vs YaST-QT [Redux]" is probably not very contextual. My pet peeves:- 1. openSUSE: Notification/tooltip theme in openSUSE -- openSUSE 11.3 comes out in a couple of days, but it still uses the same notification/tooltip theme used in the earlier versions. Fedora 13 and Ubuntu 10.04 on the other hand have moved to a much more elegant tooltip/notification theme [see http://static.arstechnica.com/assets/2010/03/ubuntu_darktheme-thumb-640xaut… ] which does add some beauty to the desktop. 2. Upstream: Icon scrambling in the desktop -- Too often something like this happens: insert USB disk, safely remove USB disk, create a document "X" in the desktop (around the same location where the USB disk icon was), and re-insert USB disk. The USB-disk icon and the X icon appear on top of each other, making it impossible to click on one without dragging the icon of the other to some other place in the desktop. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613111 3. openSUSE: The menu thing (bug 595912), but that looks fixed in Factory http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-packaging/2010-06/msg00013.html 4. openSUSE: CD drive getting locked in by the GNOME desktop https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=418944 -- Happens only in GNOME, and not on KDE. Also does not happen in Fedora/Ubuntu. Please let me know your pet peeves about the GNOME desktop in this thread. Hi. How come versions of gnome packages in GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3 are earlier than the ones on the 11.3 dvd? Does this mean that GNOME:/STABLE:/2.30/openSUSE_11.3 is not ready yet? [opensuse-gnome] Deprecating scrollkeeper with rarian-compat ?

Hi all, while trying to build gnome-shell using jhbuild on a "non developement" openSUSE 11.3 system, I discovered scrollkeeper was still required by gnome-docs-utils. Since rarian provides compatibility wrapper for old programs still calling scrollkeeper, it would be better for rarian-compat package to obsoletes/provides scrollkeeper package (which is dead upstream), even if rarian is supposed to be deprecated with GNOME 3.
