[opensuse-gnome] GNOME 2.26 on openSUSE 11.1

Hello folks! As you might, or might not know, we are packaging GNOME 2.26 for both Factory and openSUSE 11.1. I'm running this myself on all my machines and I don't have any noticeable bugs, which means that you all can install and use it :-) For 11.1, you will need to add the following repos; http://widehat.opensuse.org/pub/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_11.1/ http://widehat.opensuse.org/pub/repositories/GNOME:/Backports/openSUSE_11.1/ Which actually brings me to the reason for this email... We will package DeviceKit-power in GNOME so that we can update to the latest gnome-power-manager. DK-power requires DeviceKit, which is already in Factory. DK requires a newer version of udev compared to the one we have in openSUSE 11.1. Having the above requirements in mind, I'd say that we would like to keep gnome-power-manager at v2.24.x (ie, not update it for 11.1, but only Factory). Does anyone feel that this is not an OK solution? Cheers! Please link package GNOME:GNOME1 to GNOME:Community... It is needed as a build dependency for package purple-plugin_pack (for plugin xmms-remote). Or i can disable the plugin for all repositories (it is enabled only for 10.3 and 11.0 because it has been dropped) I have made a submitreq nr. 6598 for that Regards Gryffus

Hey, Very quick mail to tell you that I pushed G:F to oS:F. That's 76 packages. So 2.25.90 should hit Factory. Now, let's try to not update things in G:F for now, until those packages gets in oS:F -- I know, it's hard ;-) But until https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472628 is fixed, it's probably better to do this. [opensuse-gnome] Submitting fixes to 11.1 - update your osc

To submit a fix for 11.1, you need to go through the patchinfo process. However, if you do osc branch openSUSE:11.1 some-gnome-package then osc will tell you that the package is linked from GNOME:Factory, and it will give you a version that you don't want. Okay, no problem. You specify the --nodevelproject option: osc branch --nodevelproject openSUSE:11.1 some-gnome-package Note that this doesn't work in the osc that is available right now for 11.1 Fortunately, Darix just fixed this. His recipe to get a fixed osc worked perfectly for me: (02:27:16 PM) darix: svn co https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/opensuse/trunk/buildservice/src/clientlib/… ~/workspace/osccheckout ; ln -s ~/workspace/osccheckout/osc-wrapper.py ~/bin/osc ; rehash That makes the --nodevelproject option work correctly. [opensuse-gnome] To Changelog or to not Changelog

Hello, Currently, when doing package updates, we have some (strange) policy that we have to put in what changes upstream made (ie, bugfixes, new features etc). All this information is already available in the NEWS/ChangeLog file for most packages. Since this doesn't seem to be an openSUSE policy [1] I wonder why we enforce this for GNOME components? Enforcing updates of the changelog makes it possible to check details of upstream changes with; # rpm -q --changelog nautilus By not enforcing these changes, one can do; # cat /usr/share/doc/packages/nautilus/NEWS I see little (if any) value in doing this, but it adds a lot of time when doing a package update, so I would like to change the policy to simple contain specific updates that the packager made (add/remove patch etc) Opinions? I posted a comment on the bug. Here's a gist anyway ;-) It was not a problem with the evo package. It is a problem the way linkpac works. I made the submission to G:F so I know for sure that all was well in my repo before the submission ;-) All patches were clean. Since both projects (i.e. evo in G:F and evo in my repo) had "project.diff", something broke when I submitted and you accepted. [opensuse-gnome] Splashscreen won't show.

The splashscreen wont show, i have tried all the options in vga=ask mode at bootmenu. It just changes the resolution for the text at startup. I have graphics in the bootmenu, so wouldn't my computer be able to show the splashy? also "splashy test" fails. Hi, Just wanted to send a quick status update about G:F after the packaging day. A few comments: + g-wrap: blocking on bug 472713 (we need a pkg-config file for libffi): https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472713 Else, it's pretty much ready in my branch, iirc. + gnome-power-manager: no devicekit-power, no 2.25.x + gnome-user-share: building in my branch. To have the file sharing over webdav be announced over dns-sd, we need to package: http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/mod_dnssd/ (there's a FIXME in gnome-user-share.spec about this) + gobby: being worked on by FunkyM. It's a complete rewrite, and needs new packages. + gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad: still need some legal love. Stanislav might look at this. + libgda: I have an update ready in my branch, but it fails to build: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=569238 + libmcs: hrm, no idea :-) But I found out that nothing depends on it, so a good candidate to kill or move to Contrib if someone wants to maintain it. (anybody should feel free to finish g-wrap, libgda or to package mod_dnssd) Also, I had to disable most (all?) of the sharepoint related patches in evolution since they break the build.
