[opensuse-buildservice] Expired OBS Keys?

It seems the OBS Security key (keyid 79EAFD54) on keys.gnupg.net has expired (2011-Apr-2). Would it be possible for someone to update it? [opensuse-buildservice] Use solid state disks [ssd] to improve obs build times.

Hello With the opensuse build service [obs] getting more usage every day I wonder if this would make a diffence :- 1. Use solid state disks [ssd] to improve build times of package rpms on, perhaps point the BuildRoot or _tmppath to the ssd's Reason for asking. Improve the packaging times during busy times on obs. Hi all, I found some errors in de configurations of the OBS 2.3 server. I've attached the corrected files and the patches. It's related to: Documentation: /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP Apache vhosts configuration: /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/obs.conf I've added the api port 81 connection as a quick fix and as the internal doesn't really need to be encrypted. [opensuse-buildservice] distro independant rpms and debs for distro independant data?

This question concerns both the OBS and packaging so I am sending to both lists. I am currently working on packaging the Swiss Ephemeris http://www.astro.com/swisseph/ I am currently at the planning scheming and experimentation stage. First I will do the library. But then there is the data. The data is about 60 files not all of which will be wanted by all people. There may be ways of grouping but I am not sure. Perhaps one rpm per file. The Web page says: > For this extended timespan the ephemeris requires 32 Mbytes of ephemeris > files. It would be a shame if this had to repeat for each distro. There may be other projects with even more data. This data is distro and architecture independent. I understand that there should be different rpm per distro because different distros link libraries differently and do other details differently. There could be rpm version dependencies. Perhaps one distro can not understand rpms from another distro as raw data. My question is this is there a lowest common denominator rpm format that can represent pure data (and a few text licensing files) and be understood by all distros? How would you get the build service to produce such rpms? After you produced them how would you get the build service to serve them for all rpm based distros? Same question for debs and the debian based distros? Unrelated question: a while back OBS debian binary repositories were debian compatible but the source repositories were not. [opensuse-buildservice] Installing on Mandriva via OBS repo

Hi All, I am trying to install my program on Mandriva but can't seem to add the OBS repository. It seems that the command urpmi.addmedia doesn't work with the normal RPM PM. Someone on IRC mentioned that I could specify a different type for the repository in my OBS raw config to automatically generate a urpmi compatible repo. What do I put as the type for my Mandriva repo to make it urpmi compatible? OK, did that but halts before it can finish the configure. Is there another way to access the logs? an alternative solution would be: ln -s /usr/include/et/com_err.h /usr/include/com_err.h that's how I got it to work on my own box. But I could not do that in the build service because I was getting permission denied errors. Hi there... K:R:46 is broken: since the new qtwebkit package came in, kde 4.6.5 crashes on login with a segfault in libQTWebKit. K:R:47 is broken: it's not signed anymore, and from what I hear it has the same issues with webkit as K:R:46; I can't try since I can't update to K:R:47 OSS14/Updates is broken: zypper ref fails with a "file not found". Hi :) I try to compile the media player clemetine with a patch, making clementine to support vlc/xine and phonon backend, as it now only supports gstreamer :( When applying the patch it hangs with I: Program returns random data in a function E: clementine no-return-in-nonvoid-function /usr/src/packages/BUILD/clementine-0.7.1/3rdparty/libxrme/connection.cpp:487 I am not a developer so I can not fix it... Can I package it somehow skipping this build check or whatever... Hi everybody I've tried to start from scratch an OBS Private instance from the 2.2.90 appliance (64 bits) . Preparing the Raid1 Disk Array and Writing the Appliance to a dedicated Disk were fine. The Appliance boot successfully and recognize my Raid Array a LVM . Then I have updated the 2 following files - /etc/sysconfig/proxy - /usr/lib/obs/server/BSConfig.pm In order to match my firewall settings Then I reboot the appliance and everything were still fine So I tried to my OBS instance to be Remotely linked to another using the WebUI Whatever the target (opensuse or Meego) this failed . An I get : OBS Web Interface Error: Error Details: Errorcode: unknown Message: xpath for delete did not give exactly one node!" Because, I have setup a Private instance with the 2.2.84 (32bits), I have a copy of a working configuration file for this. Hi, Is it possible to checkout package into already existing or current directory without creating PACKAGE directory? Let me explain why I need it. My package directory structure looks like this: package src/ rpm/ .... Quite common project structure, I'd say. It's under git control. What I want is to be able to use osc when in rpm/ subdirectory. For that I need osc to be able to create package structure right in the current directory, without creating PACKAGE subdirectory. So, the workflow of creating and working with packaging would be something like this: git clone git_url_of_mypackage create empty package mypackage in WebUI or better using osc mkpac, but that's another story cd mypackage mkdir rpm git archive --prefix mypackage-version/ HEAD | gzip > rpm/mypackage-version.tar.gz cd rpm osc co -o. myproject mypackage vi mypackage.spec git add mypackage.spec git commit -m 'Added spec' osc add mypackage.spec mypackage-version.tar.gz osc commit ... .... I'm able to work around it by moving .osc directory from rpm/PACKAGE/.osc to rpm/. However, from my point of view it would be better to have one more option for osc to do it. What do you think? If it doesn't sound bad or totally incorrect would you accept patch implementing it? Hi, I've been testing OBS for a while. I like it a lot. I think one thing isn't correct in /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP under "4.2 import base distributions into the backend". Run the api import script: # cd /srv/www/obs/api/script # RAILS_ENV="production" ruby import I have a feeling this is not valid any more, otherwise it's broken in both stable (2.1) as unstable (2.3). During the install I have to add api.<domain_name> and build.<domain_name> in /etc/hosts. This is not mentioned in /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP The line in /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP should be: Enable SSL in /etc/sysconfig/apache2 via APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="SSL" In stead of: Enable SSL in /etc/sysconfig/apache2 via APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="-DSSL" One thing is also not correct in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/obs.conf, the directory isn't correct. For example. home:rudi_m:devel-snap/dateutils should resolve gcc46 from devel:gcc if build is against openSUSE_11.4 Is this possible somehow or can I only add paths to the whole prj config? Just change the respective lines in$OBS-GIT-CLONE/.git/config to the following: [remote "origin"] url = git://github.com/openSUSE/open-build-service.git fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/github/* As Github is so much better for merge requests, we want more of them. Thus, if you want to contribute to OBS, fork it on Github, commit to your personal clone and do merge requests. Much like on Gitorious before, but way more comfortable. Hello everyone, several OBS developers are currently thinking about moving our code from Gitorious to Github. During the last months, Gitorious showed many stability issues (including today, when they lost SSH keys). We believe that Github has countless advantages: * The URL is shorter * Has way better availability * E-mail notifications actually work * Requests can be merged in the browser * Better support for server-side commit hooks * Half of the openSUSE project (that used to be on Gitorious) is already there * OBS is there too (mirrored only): https://github.com/openSUSE/Open-Build- Service * It is actively developed To be complete, Gitorious also has advantages: * It's free software It should be mentioned that we (as in adrian, coolo and me) don't care at all about the latter point as Github is really Open Source friendly. However, if you see issues in the above proposal please speak up, otherwise we may simply move in the next days. Hi all, I found some errors in de configurations of the OBS 2.3 server. I've attached the corrected files and the patches. It's related to: Documentation: /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP Apache vhosts configuration: /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/obs.conf I've added the api port 81 connection as a quick fix and as the internal doesn't really need to be encrypted. Hi, I know that building in a chroot might affect my build host's /proc and I'am doing it only on unimportant machines. But here I have a very bad thing which is maybe worth to fix somehow. When I am doing osc build against Fedora_15 it sets domainname to something stupid during installation of the buildroot. This results in losing all my NIS users and the whole build host becomes unusable. This problem appears with Fedora_15 buildroot only. I don't know if it would be against the design of the buildroots to find Fedora's guilty post install script or whatever and correct this. Hi, This was originally posted on factory list, see thread "Internal compiler error at 64-bit". I post again here because it's an OBS problem I think: Many packagers have non deterministic build errors since a few days. Mostly "internaler compiler erros" which may even result in strange random errors during "make" if such error happened aleready in configure's checks. I've diffed a lot logfiles and came to some vague conclusions: 1. Errors happens on kvm vms 64bit only. 2. It's because the 64bit kvm vms are started without -cpu in opposite to the 32bit ones. Hi, We're using osc at work, and I've run into an issue that I'm not quite sure how to deal with. I work remotely so I tend to use ssh alot. I've been working with the source services to provide a tighter integration between OBS and a version control system. I'd like to be able to get configuration parameters for a source service from the project config. That way, I can copy the _service file between two projects, and the project config determines, for example, which SCM branch to use. That way I can have something like: project (uses the main development branch) project:branch (uses a 'bugfix' branch) That way, the project config (one place to edit) can hold the branch to use, instead of the _service file(s) - which can be numerous, depending on the number of packages in a project. Since the project config is in /srv/obs/projects/<project>.cfg, it's a simple matter of to scan the <project>.cfg file for a special term - like %git_branch, and return a value which is used to generate the tarball from the version control system. The problem is that I need a way to make the project name available to the source service. Hi, In my home project I have a package libdbusmenu-qt. A library that exports the menubar of applications written in qt using dbus. However if I change something in the package it get's rebuild and all qt applications too, but even icon-theme's, KDE plasmoids and I don't what magic causes the to do so. :) So why do they get all rebuild, when libdbusmenu-qt get's ? Hi, I'm experimenting with kmp packages, the thing is that if the version don't match exactly the version of the kernel I can't load them... Current kernel installs modules in /lib/modules/2.6.32.45-0.3-pae, but my OBS generated kmp puts them in /lib/modules/2.6.32.45-1-pae/updates. In that situation, modprobe fails with "ERROR: modinfo: could not find module <name>". I tought kmp could handle minor version changes in kernel, although in this case I've built the kmp with that exact same target kernel, OBS is the one changing the release numbers.. Verifying integrity of cached packages BuildService API error: can't verify packages due to lack of GPG keys Obviously, I'd like to be able to verify the packages; the distribution packages certainly have a GPG signature (That of SLES). I know the GPG key is on ${SLES_ISO}/pubring.gpg. So what I need to do to get 'osc build' to work (and verify the GPG signature of the packages)? Greetings: We are using osc, version 131, to download binary files from a build repo (osc getbinaries). We are noticing 2x performance differences in download speeds on different OBS2.1 service hosts. The disk io speeds & bit transfer rates to storage are exactly the same on both hosts (verified with dd calls). The osc download requests are to local host services. On the slow performer, I see ruby trace calls referencing '_session' variables, as well as a 'Cookie' reference. We don't see this problem on an old OBS1.6 installation. We thought disabling ssl checks (sslcertck=0) would speed up the transfer - but this makes no difference. Here's the html header: send: 'GET /build/Project:700: Builder_2/rhel5/i586/......4.1.el5.i386.rpm HTTP/1.1\r\nAccept-Encoding: identity\r\nHost: obs-......com\r\nCookie: opensuse_webclient_session=0blongkey; _frontend_session=BAlongkey--65bblongkey\r\nConnection: close\r\nUser-Agent: osc/0.131\r\n\r\n' The traceroute calls all have a single hop to the local host. [opensuse-buildservice] Thoughts about using test driven development for my gsoc project

Hi, as you might know I participated in the GSoC this year. When the coding period started my mentors and I decided to use the "test driven development" (TDD) approach to develop the python obs library. In the following I'll summarize why I think using this approach was a good idea and how it helped me to write the code. * It helps with designing a class interface With TDD you usually write the testcases _before_ the actual code. When doing so you already get a feeling if the design of the interface or method is practical because you use the interface multiple times in your testcases. Example: One of the first coding tasks was to write a class for managing (editing, saving etc.) project/package xml metadata. For instance a common use case is to add a new repository the project's metadata so I wrote a testcase for it. The first version looked something like this: prj = RemoteProject('foobar') repo = prj.add_element('repository', name='openSUSE_11.4') repo.add_element('arch', 'x86_64') repo.add_element('path', project='openSUSE:11.4', repository='standard') I think this doesn't really look pythonic (but of course this is just a matter of taste) so finally I ended up with the following: prj = RemoteProject('foobar') repo = prj.add_repository(name='openSUSE_11.4') repo.add_arch('x86_64') repo.add_path(project='openSUSE:11.4', repository='standard') (of course the add_* methods aren't statically coded in the RemoteProject's class – instead we use a "ElementFactory" which is returned by an overridden __getattr__ (for the details have a look at the code:) )) Without TDD I probably would have implemented the first version and afterwards I had realized that I didn’t like it... * It helps structuring the code Let's consider some "bigger" method which needs quite some logic like the wc.package.Package class' update method (the update method is used to update an osc package working copy). Before writing the testcases I started to think about how the update method can be structured and what parts can reside in its own (private) method (probably a natural thing which has nothing to do with TDD). I ended with the following rough layout: o calculate updateinfo: a method which calculates which files have to be updated (in particalur it returns an object which encapsulates newly added filenames, deleted filenames, modified filenames, unchanged filenames etc.) o perform merges: a method which merges the updated remote file with the local file o perform adds: simply adds the new files to the working copy o perform deletes: deletes local files which don’t exist anymore in the remote repo Then I started to write some testcases for the calculate_updateinfo method and implemented it. Next I wrote testcases for the various different update scenarios and implemented the methods and so on. It is probably much easier to write testcases for many small methods than for a few "big" methods. From time to time I realized that I forgot to test some "special cases", so I added a new testcase, fixed the code and ran the testsuite again. The cool thing is if the testsuite succeeds (that is the fix doesn’t break any of the existing testcases + the newly added testcase succeeds) one gains confidence that the fix was "correct". * It speeds up the actual coding My overall impression is that TDD “speeds” up the actual coding a bit. While writing the testcases I also thought how it could be implemented. So when all testcases were done I had rough blueprint of the method in my mind and "just" transformed it into code. For instance it didn’t take much time to write the initial version of calculate_updateinfo method. But of course this doesn’t work for all methods. Stuff like the Package class' update method took quite some time (and thinking!) even though I already wrote some testcases. The main reason was the fact that the update should be implemented as a single "transaction" (the goal was that the working copy isn't corrupted if the update was interrupted). As you can see TDD is no black magic approach which makes everything easier – thinking is still required:) * It helps to avoid useless/unused code paths I just wrote the code to comply with the existing testcases – no other (optional) features were added. Sometimes I realized that some feature was missing. In this case I added another testcase and implemented the missing feature. So the rule was whenever a new feature was required a testcase had to exist (either a testcase which directly tests the modified method or a testcase which tests a method which implicitly calls the modified method). * It helps to overcome one's weaker self From time to time I had to write some trivial class or method where I thought it isn’t worth the effort to write testcases for it. A perfectly prominent example was the wc.package.UnifiedDiff class (it's only purpose is to do a "svn diff"-like file diff). At the beginning I wanted to start coding without writing testcases because I thought it's enough to test its base class (that’s the place were the interesting things happen and the rest is just "presentation/visualization"). Luckily I abandoned this idea and wrote the testcases. It turned out that it was a good idea because this "trivial" visualization I had in mind was more complicated than I initially thought;) What I learned from this example is that it is most likely better to write testcases because the class/method might evolve and might get more complicated. The wiki article doesn't explain what can be uploaded to OBS. JFYI, the hardware of the web server of OBS has currently serious problems. Unfortunatly nothing what we can replace easily. Hi, several packages in server:php:applications show unresolvable for openSUSE_11.3. "nothing provides php-macros" repo openSUSE_11.3 is openSUSE:11.3:Update when I review packge "php5" in openSUSE:11.3:Update then the spec is telling that "php5-devel" is providing php-macros. || |178 Provides:| |php-macros = 2.0| |179 Obsoletes:| |php-macros < 2.0| So why is obs telling "unresolvable" ? a BUG ? Hi, I have a minor problem with %makeinstall macro. On suse it expands to make install DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT On the other distros it expands to make install bindir=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/bin infodir=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/bin ... etc But it does not set docdir="$RPM_BUILD_ROOT/usr/share/doc..." Therefore make install always fails with something like error: install /usr/share/doc/README, permission denied My workaround is this of course: %install # don't use makeinstall macro because missing docdir=... make install DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT I'd like to use the macro. How should I do it? I am trying to use unoconv during an OBS build. I am getting the error: javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment! various web pages suggest that errors of this type go away if you install openoffice.org-java-common or libreoffice-java-common if you have libreoffice. The problem is that opensuse 11.4 does not have libreoffice-java-common! [opensuse-buildservice] extending the /source/project backend call

Hi, what about extending the /source/project backend call with an additional "withsrcmd5" query parameter? Instead of the plain package list it will return also the latest srcmd5 for each package. This call can be used by osc to check which packages in a local project have to be updated. It would probably speed up the update process for large projects because osc only needs to do one http request (instead one for each package) in order to decide if a package has to be updated or not. A drawback is that this call might be a bit "expensive" because for each package the getfilelist() function has to be called (a simple getrev() for each package won't work with links or branches). We released another 2.1 version. More important then the actual changes is actually the new place. We moved the 2.1 stream now to the "openSUSE:Tools:2.1" project to free "openSUSE:Tools" for the upcomming 2.3 release.
