[opensuse-support] TW KDM>SDDM=no DM (coredump)

I finally decided to allow SDDM (on an existing installation)for the first time since it was announced SDDM was to become default for KDE installations. I used zypper to remove the remnants of KDE4, then zypper in sddm sddm-branding-upstream I check with update-alternatives to find sddm had already been selected, then rebooted, with 5 instead of 3 on kernel cmdline. No DM at all, only login prompts on ttys1-6. I checked xdm and sddm with systemctl status. I found sddm disabled and xdm enabled, which I expected as xdm is how KDM3 and TDM are enabled. I tried zypper ve. That found the usual suspects, "broken" packages because either fonts I don't want installed would be, or because I refuse to allow glibc-locale to be installed (since glibc-locale-base should be sufficient[1,2]. glibc-locale is huge, and / has limited freespace) so I chose to keep all those broken. I allowed only other, plasma5-integration-plugin, to be added. Reboot, still no DM. So I tried using YaST2 from a Plasma session started with startx to see what else might be sddm-related, and selected to add kcm_sddm. That pulled in desktop-translations & ucode-intel with it. I rebooted, and still no DM. Finally I remembered to check the journal. SDDM coredump. Journal tail attached. Is this my fault rather than a bug? Does anyone else successfully use upstream SDM theme instead of openSUSE SDDM theme (without Plymouth installed)? Does this combination ever get QA tested? What next to do? [opensuse-support] IPEVO camera (uvcvideo) no longer working on Tumbleweed

I have an IPEVO webcam / document camera, which used to work fine on Tumbleweed. Now it no longer does. [opensuse-support] yast2 network settings doesn't set MTU (Tumbleweed)

Hello, entering something like "9000" in the MTU-field isn't written to the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg- file. Hence interface MTU isn't set correctly. Editing the ifcfg-file and restarting network sets the MTU, even after reboot. Hello everyone: I have installed OpenSuse Tumbleweed. Normally i use dosemu for a program dos writen. I perform the updates from time in time ( 3~4 months) In the last week i upgrades the system and DOSemu stop working. my_pc> dosemu LOWRAM mmap: Invalid Argument I search on internet and all problems are very old of years 2012, 2014 and i was working until december of 2019. I try the following: 1) from: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-msdos/msg01250.html (2010) Disable 'apparmor' completely. Use the kernel boot option 'apparmor=0' to achieve that. (add it to /boot/grub/menu.lst). 2)from https://sourceforge.net/p/dosemu/bugs/398/ (2012) sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0 The warning disapear, but the dosemu never start and i cant find a log o clue about what is happening. The file .dosemu/boot.log is updates without errors only a warning about vm86 not present. 3) run dosemu as root. the same as 2) but sysctl is not required. Hey, does NetworkManager randomize the MAC of a wireless interface in openSUSE Tumbleweed now? And if so, how can I turn that off so it uses the default MAC of the device? regards

[opensuse-support] OpenCL and folding at home

Hi, I have an AMD Ryzen system and when I start FAClient I see a message about not finding the opencl libs. I looked on the folding at home web site about the newer foah and they mention using opencl.. Should I install OpenCL? Which files should I install? I am using Tumbleweed. The client runs pretty fast now so that's why I'm asking. Hi *, since last Friday NetworkManager is switching back and forth between CONNECTED_SITE and CONNECTED_GLOBAL every about 5-10 minutes. Hi, There have been no news on opensuse web site for a while - is the website broken or abandoned? What does that mean for the openSuSE project - is it dead/dyeing? I am just worried about the project: * no news/announcements * 15.0 packages seems to be no longer updated, although 15.1 is still updated * the kernel is pretty old in 15.1 .... no visible plans to update it * will there will be openSuse 15.2, is it being developed? When? Maybe all is great, it just does not seem that way from looking at the website. Does anybody know? [opensuse-support] Wifi does not start anymore using a USB-dongle on a Tumbleweed system

I support a friend who uses a 32bit system, so he needs to use Tumbleweed. After the latest upgrade the Wifi interface, a USB dongle, does not start anymore. This was also a problem in August, but a patch in wpa_supplicant.service made it work again. See bug report 1144670. However after the latest upgrade Wifi does not start anymore and that patch does not work anymore. I could reproduce the issue on my own 64bit desktop with a little bit different USB dongle. It looks like there is timing problem. Hello, This is just a notice :-). I never had to use the options on the boot menu of install system (bottom of the screen, right side). I used then today to boot the computer described below (for reference only). To be able to install, I had to change the display to 1366x768. I also changed for "safeboot settings", but I'm pretty sure the display change was the only necessary. Symptom was black screen most of the time when starting install system. so, in fact probably no necessity to edit kernel line manually... jdd I have old netbook entirely AMD based. ASUS 1225N. It have 4Gb ram, I installed a msata 250Gb ssd.
