Hello. Using Tumbleweed! First, my most pressing question about read-only-root-fs, read-only-root-fs-volatile, btrfs, dracut initramfs with fuse and overlayfs on tumbleweed, not MicroOS. I have transactional-update installed with rebootmgr. 1) How can i edit files in /etc and have the changes persist on reboot? I tried looking up advice and saw some conflicting information. Is transactional-update needed here, since its not about a zypper package? Some people said make the change, enter a new snapshot, activate it, before a reboot. (Another person via reddit post said never do this.) I can achieve what I want by entering rescue mode via the installation media and just mount /etc and edit. 2) Will openrc or runit ever be officially available? Just asking. Maybe a pattern for an init setup. (I saw shepherd available for guix) 3) Are there source code audits and package audits? Like in BSD? Im trying to be careful with a lot of these packages that originate from pagure, git, and sourceforge. 4) What are the differences between the build host name and number on the packages, like goat, sheep, old-atreju, old-cirrus, hci-node, hurricane, cloud, and others I didnt mention? Now, for the praise. Since I was plagued by distro-hop fever, I continued to look for so many. Even though initially being turned off by /usr/etc structure, I kept coming back to OpenSUSE, learned more, adopted, and even began to like its quirky setups. After reinstalling so many times, I noticed Bootloader customization is solid and flexible without compromising security. +1 for top-down learning. (As opposed to most of the world learning things from the ground-up. ) Thanks very much. Ali.

Unstable GCC

Since some day I have stability problems with GCC on Tumbleweed (20230808). Linux kernel compilation and also other compile tasks sometimes fail with "internal compiler error". Restarting the compilation helps, but especially within "rpmbuild" or "osc build" build jobs restarting means, that I have to start from the beginning. A hardware problem is possible, but "dmesg" or journalctl does not show any problem. Machine: Intel i5 750, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD Does anyone has similar problems? SDDM

Hi For the last 2 weeks, on a fresh boot up in the morning, SDDM displays itself for a second and then goes blank for long stretches of time, it will not stay displayed. I can log in ok though but its almost impossible to select a user id. On subsequent logouts, it displays fine. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a more feature rich configurator for SDDM apart from "System Settings/ Login Screen"? I use the "Breeze for opensuse" but i get a black background and low resolution so everything is large. AutoYaST second stage media request

Hello, I’ m trying to port to openSUSE, of which I have a limited knowledge, my home-lab semi-automatic deployment system used with redhat derivative distros. In RedHat like distro I inject the kickstart file inside to kvm using virt-install utility and to which I provide the iso image of the selected distro as –location. The solution perhaps is not the more efficient but is simple end effective for me. Now I tried to to the same with OpenSUSE injecting the AutoYaST control file and it works except that Autoyast performs its installation in two stages. Sadly at end of first stage it performs a reboot and I’m not able to provide to virt-install a way to keep iso connected to installing VM. The end result is that second stage hangs waiting for the media. As dirty workaround, I re-associate the iso to new VM e.g by virt-manager go in the terminal and perform a retry on ncurcess interface finalizing the installation successfully. I read many times the autoyast documentation but I didn’t find a way to configure the control file so that it doesn’t require the media. The installing machine has network properly configure and is able to access to package repositories public or added by add-on list directive but seems to require anyway the media. If I disable the execution of second stage at all, as per documentation advise, the installation does not finish correctly. Do you have any suggestion? Please help solve this confusion, help explain in the DL web page, there's a type of mach. architectur download UI that : The DL link is <Base this arch. name>-Current but The hash DL link is <Base this arch. name>-Snapshot so naturally, it'll most likely fail in matching test The DL type: amd64/x86_64 Please help my hard attempted .iso file download to get useful not in vain !

Anybody else experiences this?
