[opensuse-support] boot amd (solved)

Hello, This is just a notice :-). I never had to use the options on the boot menu of install system (bottom of the screen, right side). I used then today to boot the computer described below (for reference only). To be able to install, I had to change the display to 1366x768. I also changed for "safeboot settings", but I'm pretty sure the display change was the only necessary. Symptom was black screen most of the time when starting install system. so, in fact probably no necessity to edit kernel line manually... jdd I have old netbook entirely AMD based. ASUS 1225N. It have 4Gb ram, I installed a msata 250Gb ssd. [opensuse-support] Noticeable Slowness on web browser by clicking on email link

Hello, Would like to share with this list a new unexpected behavior after last Tumbleweed update: noticeable slowness on web browser opening whenever I click on a URL reported on any e-mail. My default Web Browser is Firefox and Email Client is Thunderbird, before the latest update of TW the opening of the web page when clicking on email link was almost immediate, whereas now this action takes some seconds, I mean it is very noticeable. Would like to know if other users have noticed the same behavior. [opensuse-support] 32bit app won't launch

It worked and works fine in 42.3. I cloned 42.3, then upgraded to 15.1. The ancient 32bit gtk2 app is in /usr/local/ shared by both, so I know it still works. But, 15.1 won't launch it. If I try to launch it with gdb, it reports" "not in executable format: file format not recognized" Since it normally launches from a wrapper script, I tried the binary instead, with this result: "error while loading shared libraries: libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" File libxul.so is in the same directory as the binary, so I changed to it first, then tried to start, but get the same cannot open message. [opensuse-support] Bash script question

Hi list, while not realy OS related, here's an issue that twists my mind: I have modified some script I found (was pointed to via some article...) to generate a list of processes that use swap, and how much. It's attached below. The issue is line 23, the end of the for loop. If I omit piping the output through the sort command I get an unsorted list, and a correct OVERALL sum. If I use the pipe, last output will be Overall swap used: 0 WTF!? OVERALL is nicely added up in the loop, I can do echos/prints and see how it increases. After the pipe, it's zero again. I tried the 'set -x', but that didn't give me a clue what is happening there. Is that really expected behavior? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any insight! Newmoon, both before last updates, and current 28.7.2 20191201011357, on 15.1 crash every time I try to access main UI. Switching among open tabs is OK. > newmoon [21983] ###!!! [opensuse-support] LEAP 15.1 installation & config

Hi again, all -- I've played with a few installs of 15.1 and am a bit confused. I'm using the network installer and in both cases have added Main Repository Non-OSS Repository Main Repository Update Non-OSS Repository Update and otherwise just enjoyed the defaults. My first pass was Desktop with KDE and my second was Server but both seem lacking. I was surprised that the installer didn't ask me in any case to set the host name; I ended up with linux-xxxx for some semi-random string of 4 chars, so I had to manually set the name. The real surprise, though, was that ifconfig netstat and who knows what else weren't installed! Um, what did I miss? A GUI installer like this should be simple enough even for a dummy like me to manage to get a good system build :-) I'm going to want a KDE-based desktop with the typical userspace browser and other such, and I'll need NFS client & server services as well as of course sshd. It's eventually going to get a fixed IP but I don't care too much right now either way. I don't expect to run a web server, but the usual SA's bag of scripting languages will be useful. Are there patterns to select to make sure I have all of that, or do I have to drag my way through a zillion packages in YaST to find what I want?
