SCSI/Scanner again

Hello again, i changed the card to an Adaptec Card AHA-2920 (96001-00 A) (the screen at the boot process tells me: Adaptec PCI) and now i have got two problems: 1. Windows 98 freezes, if the scanner isn't switched on at the boot process. After Windows completely loaded, i can switch off the scanner (strange, but i can arrange with that problem) 2. Under SuSE Linux 8.0 Yast2 tells me: there is no SCSI-Scanner and cdrecord -- scanbus shows no scsi-Card (it only shows the scsi - emulation of my dvd and cd- burner). On the left side Yast2 tells me at last: You have to install the scsi-Scanner manually.... and that i have to choose the scanner from the list ..... but there is no list with scanners or scsi-Cards.... This is at last the same message that i got while using the AdvanSys ABP 925. What have i to do, to install a scsi-card manually? Suggestions on video and sound programming tips

Hello, I'd like to design simple audio and video playback routines for an application. I've a digital signal acquired through an A/D that I'd like to play as sound. Also I'd like to draw the signal on a window that can be streamed through a video card with a TV output (to look like an oscilloscope.) If there is anybody here, working on audio or video programming, I'd like to know if you have suggestions on how to get started. E.g. audio libraries, video libraries, video cards supported under linux, etc. Thanks. -- Rafael

mplayer hiccups

Hello, I had on my laptop with Intel +/- 500MHz mplayer 0.90 and was very pleased with it. Now with a post with processor Athlon AMD 2000Mhz I installed mplayer-1.0pre1 The image is perfect But the sound hiccups (reading .avi file from CDRom on a DVD/CD reader). I installed the codecs package in /usr/local/lib/codecs like asked. I would like to do it with mencoder: In a list of examples I can read the instruction: # mencoder -ovc lavc basket.rm -oac mp3lame -o basket.avi What kind of file is basket.rm? ================================= In SuSE-8.2 I can watch TV with Xine and a simple WinTV Card. Hello Extace on SuSE linux 8.2 do not run anymore. the error message is "Can not connect to sound source". On SuSE 7.2 on the same Hardware it ran perfectly. Can anybody help please. Hi, For you digital camera users out there I have put a new libgphoto2 2.1.2 RPM on ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/meissner/gphoto/2.1.2/8.2/ This brings especially Canon and PTP drivers up to a good working state, so if you had problems with those cameras, feel free to try. Ciao, Marcus

Epson C82

I know this is the wrong list for printer problems so if someone could point me in the right list, I would appreciate it. I have been trying to get my Epson C82 printer to work on SuSE 7.2 on a paralell port. The YaST2 does not have a stylus C82 listed. I know it is the same as the stylus C80 but there is no C80 either. Problems with E-Music Download Manager

I'm trying to use E-Music's Download Manager 2.0.1 on SuSE Linux 8.2, but I can't get anything to download. The DLM attempts to connect and finally shows the following error: Download failed. (Cannot Connect.) Here's what their online support had to say: The EMusic Linux Download Manager has its own dynamically linked libc in /usr/lib/emusidlm. If you are having problems retrieving files, we suggest that you replace the dynamically linked libc with your own system settings. Any ideas what library I should be linking to? Problems with Canon Powershot a70 digital camera

Hi, I have a Canon Powershot a70 digital camera on a Suse 8.2. I have installed the libgphoto2-2.1.2 source (that should support my camera) and installed but when I start gtkam I get two errors: Could not list folder in '/' Could not initialize camera And this is the output of the kernel in /var/log/messages linux kernel: usb.c: USB device 6 (vend/prod 0x4a9/0x3073) is not claimed by any active driver. What can I do? Can I activate some modules or add some configurations? Thankyou! Giulio F.

Ardour

Hi everybody! I have a small problem. I've converted to Linux/Unix completely except for one thing, multitrack sound recordning. Now I found Ardour and it seems as it could replace the software I'm using in MS and would thus allow me to completely convert from Windows. Firstly I found out that Ardour is included in 8.1 but not in 8.2. (I'm running 8.2). Then I found Ardour for 8.2 at http://apt.bygden.nu/SuSE/8.2-i386/RPMS.suse-people/ which I installed. Everything went fine but when I try to run Ardour (after running jackd), it starts up but crashes after about 2 seconds giving the error message: ardour: relocation error: ardour: undefined symbol: jack_set_xrun_callback I googled for the error message but couldn't find almost any info about it. So now to my questions: 1. Does anyone have experience in running Ardour on 8.2? 2. Are there any other software that equals Ardour? kim

Select the audio card, you should see your card detected. Click on Change settings (or similar) and choose the advanced option. You get to the windows where you have the IRQ, DMA and other sound card config. Click the current IRQ setting and in little window bellow it will show the other IRQ numbers you can select yourself. Start by highest number, click SET and then click Next button. Next window appears where you can test your new setting. Repeat this until you hear sample. If you're successful, don't forget to save your new configuration. That's all I can help you with this. Metod

Hi John, Reminds me a bit of my problem with soundcard under SuSE. Any other distro the sound works fine, but with SuSE 8.2 I had to change IRQ number in YAST. Try keeping changing it until you hear the sample. Hope this works for you. Metod

Hi, I Have instaled Suse 8.2. I Have a preblem with my sound Card, the sound card it´s good reconiced by Yast2 and I can listen music but with a litle noise. This sound device is an "On Board Compliant whit AC´97 specification" and the Yast2 Interface show this information. I´m using KDE. Real One player for SuSE 8.2 Professional i386?

I seem to recall there being a beta Real One player in 8.1. I cannot find a Real One player for Linux at www.real.com or anywhere else for that matter. Does any one know if it is available and if so where? Does anyone know if Mozilla (1.4 and later) are going to support the rtsp protocol? TIA. Hi I am using 8.2 and have no sound output from my fortissimo II. I have looked in my /etc/modules.conf and it seems to be setup ok althought there are a few entries in there that confuse me. New Microphone and WebCam

I am trying to prove to various people that they can run an effective basic videoconferencing utility they can use linux and gnomemeeting. However, I am having problems with getting various bits set up. I have plugged my microphone in and the webcam. In YAST2 when I select HW info, it lists the correct USB Cam that I have, but I can't get xawtv to even start (it says /dev/video0 no such device). When I try a basic "rec -d /dev/dsp myfile.wav" it appears to record, but with no sound on playback. I have looked at volume control and the Mic is set up to rec. If I just speak into the mic without anything running, I can hear myself(!) I know this is a lot of queries, but if anyone can help..... Creative SB AWE not recording

Hi, I'm new to this list, so apologies if this is old ground.. I have a Soundblaster AWE64 Gold from Creative Labs running on a SuSE 7.1 install. The card is half-working.. My overall aim is to record audio from line in and output to WAV file. The documents that I've been working from are: Takashi Iwai http://mitglied.lycos.de/iwai/awedrv.html Steve Crowder http://www.dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/parade/fe88/awe64config.shtml Marcus Brinkman http://homepage.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/Marcus.Brinkmann/Soundblaster-AWE-HOWTO.… and also the Sound HOWTO. From watching the output of dmesg, /var/log/messages and reading from /proc/interrupts and /proc/ioports everything seems ok (i.e. consistent with output from the above authors) with one ommission--the output of /dev/sndstat says 'No such device'. Functionally, the configuration lets me send output to the card--'cat drumroll.au /dev/audio' plays a drum roll, but reading from input fails using the command: 'dd bs=8k count=4 </dev/audio >sample.au'. The config I'm using is based heavily on Steve Crowders document (more below). How to explain the misconfiguration of /dev/sndstat.. Is it likely to be a kernel compilation issue?
