DVD Decrypter is my choice for ripping (just copying) dvd to my HD over Windows. What about ripping DVD in linux? What are (if there are) the best programs? I prefer something that rips subtitles (embeded or not) too. Problems with sound card

Hello, I recently installed SuSE 8.1, and it generally installed like a dream, detected my hardware all right - although I did have to change the soundcard from CS 42?? to CS 46xx (I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz). Now, the sound from the card is very distorted - it sounds like the sound is coming from a tin can. On my previous SuSE install (8.0) it sounded wonderful. I know ALSA has been upgraded since SuSE 8.0, and that the sound drivers for the Santa Cruz has been modified (it now accepts more than one simultaneous audio stream). Has anyone else experienced problems of this kind, is there a fix, or is there a fault in the driver? Thanks, Magnar S. Olsen

Suse Linux 8.0: trouble with audio

Hi! I'm an italian student in a school of Rome. We bought Suse Linux 8.0 and I tryed to install it on two computers we have at school. If we manage to let Linux work with these computer, we'll try to use it on all school's computers. Anyway, we get some trouble. The first computer, we tryed to install Linux on, is a Pentium IV 2.5 Ghz, with a large hard disk (120 GB) and a lot of RAM (512 Mb). On this computer the sound card (integrated on the main board) has not been recognized by Linux, and the sound doesn't work. The sound chipset name is: Sigmatel Stac 9750T. Also the printer (Hp deskjet 920C) doesn't work (maybe because of the USB ports...) and the modem (a PCI card): Aztech CNR 2800 W V92. On the other computer, a Pentium IV 1.6 Ghz, with 40 GB HDD and 256 MB RAM, Suse Linux 8.0 managed to recognize all the hardware, during installation. Anyway there's a bigger problem: when I reboot the system (after installation) it can't boot. It stops on the line about sound (something like "loading previous sound...") how to create a movie from image sequence

Hi all, I've created sequence of images and want to convert them into a movie. The images are currently PNGs, but I could also create JPEGs or TIFFs. The resulting movie shall be playable on a wide range of platforms without special codec requirements (standard mplayer or MS media player must play them). Can anybody recommend me a program for this task that works on a suse 8.0 system? Btw, are there any restrictions on the dimensions of the frames? My images usually are 500x500. Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro

Hi, I just bought a Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro, I try to get it configured following some web sites I found about it but unfortunately I fell miserably. I was wondering if there is anyone in this forum that has managed to get it working and if there are any instructions that I can follow. I am using Suse 8.0 on one PC and I am playing to upgrade it to Suse 8.1. Any help will be much appreciate it! Ya it's a pretty nice card. I've got a Windows box at home too but it just seemed like a huge waste to put it on a Windows machine. Thanks for the help guys. The specific card is the Asylum GeForce4 Ti 4600 by BFG Technologies. The specifications on the box say it is equiped with TV in/out and there are 6 connectors on this puppy. A DVI out, VGA out, S-video in, S-video-out, TV-in(rca) and TV-out(rca). All I really want to do with it is plug in a video camera. I'm not so concerned with the tuner aspect of it as just getting the video-in to work. NVidia GeForce4 ti 4600 - TV-in

I recently installed this card and it has been fantastic. It installed very easily and it's putting out around 400 fps in every game I've got (Q3, RtCW, a few others) with all of the eye candy turned on and maxxed out. I also managed to get twinview working right off the bat with no problems so overall I'm very pleased with this card. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is the TV-in function. I had an old Hauppauge WinTV card on here and it worked great with XawTV. But I'm at a total loss as to how to get the TV-in working with the GeForce4. The system doesn't seem to be detecting any TV input of any kind and NVidia and BFGtech have absolutely nothing in their documentation about configuring TV-in at all except that the capability is there. I'm using SuSE 7.3 with kernel v2.4.16. I'm relatively dumb about working with kernel modules so if that has anything to do with it I don't even know where to start. I just assumed that NVidias kernel module (1.0-4191) and GLX drivers should be all that I need. Below are the specs for my system. SuSE 7.3, Kernel 2.4.16 xF86 4.2 1.5 GHz AthlonXP 768mb DDR RAM VIA KT333 chipset Any help is greatly appreciated. -Allen
