dvdwizard-0.6.2-1.pm.2.1.noarch is latest Packman version for 11.2, which is
broken by latest updates to ffmpeg and/or other of its deps over past few
days. http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdwizard/ says latest version is 0.6.3.

Is there any easy way to tell where fault lies when VLC-beta 1.2.x fails to
show the video portion of an mpeg file that Kaffeine has no apparent problem
playing correctly (though poorly in fullscreen mode)?
I'm on 11.2/KDE3 with AFAICT all AV packages except 1.2.10-7.3 libdvdcss the
latest available from Packman.

Are you using Packman for anything? It seems if I tried to use what you're
using instead I'd run into version conflicts fighting each other back & forth
when the (frequently updated) deps get updated.
Right now I'm unable to get mpegs created by dvbcut to play the video with
VLC. I just get a black screen to go with the sound track.
