There is a a repository for it linked to opensuse.org
Is that better than the Packman version?
I get it from the VideoLan repository directly. I am not aware what packman does to it. It seems to play everything for me.
Are you using Packman for anything? It seems if I tried to use what you're using instead I'd run into version conflicts fighting each other back & forth when the (frequently updated) deps get updated. Right now I'm unable to get mpegs created by dvbcut to play the video with VLC. I just get a black screen to go with the sound track. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
