11.1: Update "Mesa" zerschießt Bildschirmeinstellungen

Hallo zusammen, auf meinem Samsung X20 mit einer Bildschirmauflösung von 1400x1050 zerschießt das Update "Mesa" irgendwie die Grafik-Einstellungen mit der Folge, daß X beim Neustart gar nicht mehr startet. Das Laptop bleibt im RL3 hängen. Mit sax2 kann ich dann nur noch eine maximale Auflösung von 1280x1024 einstellen. Ich habe mal testweise das Verzeichnis /etc/X11 gesichert, dann das Update installiert, und /etc/X11 zurückgeschrieben. Aber leider löst dies das Problem nicht, die Bildschirmauflösung ist dann immer noch nicht korrekt, und kann mit sax2 auch immer noch nicht korrekt eingestellt werden. Das Update muß also irgend was anderes zerschießen. Im Moment installiere ich Mesa einfach nicht. Aber das ist auf Dauer auch keine Lösung. Wo könnte ich denn anfangen zu suchen, und was könnte hier überhaupt das Problem sein?
