[opensuse-buildservice] Expired OBS Keys?

It seems the OBS Security key (keyid 79EAFD54) on keys.gnupg.net has expired (2011-Apr-2). Would it be possible for someone to update it? [opensuse-buildservice] Use solid state disks [ssd] to improve obs build times.

Hello With the opensuse build service [obs] getting more usage every day I wonder if this would make a diffence :- 1. Use solid state disks [ssd] to improve build times of package rpms on, perhaps point the BuildRoot or _tmppath to the ssd's Reason for asking. Improve the packaging times during busy times on obs. [opensuse-buildservice] distro independant rpms and debs for distro independant data?

This question concerns both the OBS and packaging so I am sending to both lists. I am currently working on packaging the Swiss Ephemeris http://www.astro.com/swisseph/ I am currently at the planning scheming and experimentation stage. First I will do the library. But then there is the data. The data is about 60 files not all of which will be wanted by all people. There may be ways of grouping but I am not sure. Perhaps one rpm per file. The Web page says: > For this extended timespan the ephemeris requires 32 Mbytes of ephemeris > files. It would be a shame if this had to repeat for each distro. There may be other projects with even more data. This data is distro and architecture independent. I understand that there should be different rpm per distro because different distros link libraries differently and do other details differently. There could be rpm version dependencies. Perhaps one distro can not understand rpms from another distro as raw data. My question is this is there a lowest common denominator rpm format that can represent pure data (and a few text licensing files) and be understood by all distros? How would you get the build service to produce such rpms? After you produced them how would you get the build service to serve them for all rpm based distros? Same question for debs and the debian based distros? Unrelated question: a while back OBS debian binary repositories were debian compatible but the source repositories were not. [opensuse-buildservice] Installing on Mandriva via OBS repo

Hi All, I am trying to install my program on Mandriva but can't seem to add the OBS repository. It seems that the command urpmi.addmedia doesn't work with the normal RPM PM. Someone on IRC mentioned that I could specify a different type for the repository in my OBS raw config to automatically generate a urpmi compatible repo. What do I put as the type for my Mandriva repo to make it urpmi compatible? OK, did that but halts before it can finish the configure. Is there another way to access the logs? an alternative solution would be: ln -s /usr/include/et/com_err.h /usr/include/com_err.h that's how I got it to work on my own box. But I could not do that in the build service because I was getting permission denied errors. [opensuse-buildservice] Slow http performance

Greetings: We are using osc, version 131, to download binary files from a build repo (osc getbinaries). We are noticing 2x performance differences in download speeds on different OBS2.1 service hosts. The disk io speeds & bit transfer rates to storage are exactly the same on both hosts (verified with dd calls). The osc download requests are to local host services. On the slow performer, I see ruby trace calls referencing '_session' variables, as well as a 'Cookie' reference. We don't see this problem on an old OBS1.6 installation. We thought disabling ssl checks (sslcertck=0) would speed up the transfer - but this makes no difference. Hi, I have strange problem with building evas. It only happen on 64b and only when using obs. Hi, what about extending the /source/project backend call with an additional "withsrcmd5" query parameter? Instead of the plain package list it will return also the latest srcmd5 for each package. This call can be used by osc to check which packages in a local project have to be updated. It would probably speed up the update process for large projects because osc only needs to do one http request (instead one for each package) in order to decide if a package has to be updated or not. A drawback is that this call might be a bit "expensive" because for each package the getfilelist() function has to be called (a simple getrev() for each package won't work with links or branches). Hi all, I set up a new 2.1.11 OBS instance. I can login fine, and I can create a new project. I can check out any project using osc. Hi all, I was doing some thoughts about what is the best way for load balancing by deploying the backend to multiple servers. I have given this some thoughts and would be interested to hear the opinion of people with experience on deploying things to multiple servers or by those that actually implemented those things. My understanding is that in principle I could deploy each and every backend module (like bs_dispatcher or bs_publish) could be deployed to a different system as long as they have a shared /srv/obs directory. I am not saying that doing things in that an extreme way is reasonable but just wanted to check whether this is technically correct or whether someone sees a problem with that? Next I did a quick analysis of what backend module seems to access which parts of the /srv/obs namespace and found the following relations: bs_srcserver reads and writes to /build, /db/published, /db/source, /db/request, /diffcache, /projects, /remotecache, /sources, /trees, and /events/service bs_repserver reads and writes to /build, /workers, /repos, /events/$ARCH, /events/dispatch, and /events/signer bs_repserver reads from /db/published, /info, and /events/publish bs_scheduler reads and writes to /jobs, /info, and /events/$ARCH bs_scheduler reads from /repos bs_dispatcher reads and writes to /workers, /jobs, /events/dispatch, and /events/repository bs_warden reads and writes to /workers and /jobs bs_signer reads and writes to /jobs, /events/$ARCH, and /events/signer bs_publisher reads and writes to /build, /db/published, /repos, /repos_sync, and /events/publish bs_sshgit reads and writes to /projects This information was gathered by a lot of grepping through the source code and thus is not necessarily complete or completely correct. What I'd be interested here is now whether someone could tell me whether this is correct or what is missing/wrong in this analysis. What is completely missing from this analysis is the /upload directory, since I saw that multiple modules were using that one but it seemed they were using completely independent namespaces within there. Is this correct? The background of this analysis is that if I splitted different modules to different servers that I knew which directories should be shared among which hosts via NFS and which of them could be on the local disk. Or would you generally recommend to share the whole filesystem space among them since relying on the above information is generally to fragile? Are there people with a general recommendation on how to split the various modules to different servers. When I talked to Adrian once he suggested to run the WebUI+API on one machine, the srcserver on another one and the rest on a third one (at least if I remember correctly). For sure the workers will run on separate machines in any case. Is this what people think is a good balancing or does someone come up with different ideas? Could someone describe the infrastructure of build.opensuse.org? Which parts are running on separate servers, what parts of the relevant filesystems are network mounted on the machines from where and so on? Hi, I just noticed that I have ~6GB in repositories (binary and source rpms/deps), but my obs uses ~600GB on disk... Then I found the culprit. Hi, my package showimage https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=showimage&project=home%3Ama… can build rpm and also deb packages now. While modifying the debian.rules file (via the web interface) I discovered that also all rpm packages are rebuilt. Hello all, I'm setting up a new OBS 2.1.11 instance using apache2 w/ vhosts as specified in http://gitorious.org/opensuse/build-service/blobs/raw/master/dist/README.SE… . When I access https://localhost , I get the message: OBS Web Interface Error: Error Details: Errorcode: 503 Message: Unable to connect to API host (localhost) but if I access https://localhost:444 , the OBS API page comes up fine (after a login prompt). I added the line 127.0.0.1 api to my /etc/hosts file but this doesn't seem to make any difference. (Note: the http://gitorious.org/opensuse/build-service/blobs/raw/master/dist/README.SE… differs from the /usr/share/doc/packages/obs-api/README.SETUP installed by the ops-api package. The one from the package instructs to use lighttpd instead of apache2. My other OBS 2.1.4 instance is using lighttpd and it's all working fine.) Any ideas? I want to do another clean up round in OBS as done end of last year: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-buildservice/2010-11/msg00218.html Again repositories of projects which did not saw a change since quite some time will get removed. Unlike last year, only source changes are taken into account. This will affect 2.329 home projects and 74 other projects out of 20.846 projects. Please review the following list of projects and speak up when you don't want to get the repositories removed: non-home projects: http://www.suse.de/~adrian/OBS-remove-list-candidates home projects: http://www.suse.de/~adrian/OBS-remove-list-candidates-home The FAQ from last time: Why remove repos and not just disable the build ? This will free disk space on our servers and also on all mirrors. As result we can be mirrored more easily. Will any source get lost ? No. How to enable it again ? Just add the wanted repos again. There is a project which has not been touched, but the repos are still anyway important ! Just drop me a mail .... Why not drop the entire project now that we have an undelete function ? I thought about that, but currently the webui just says that the project does not exist. It is not able to show the former content and does not offer to undelete it, so that might be too agressive for now. Why not drop people a mail and ask them to remove it ? Way too many accounts have no valid email adress and past experience showed that people do often not react when they lost interesst in their project. My plan is to do the removal next week, except more discussion about this is needed. [opensuse-buildservice] Nonfree packages on OBS

I've noticed some non-free packages being built on the OBS - for example flash-player, wireless drivers e.g. broadcom-wl, dubious media packages e.g. ffmpeg, and many more mentioned as forbidden on the wiki http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_application_blacklist In addition to being questionable legally, it's not really in the spirit of the OBS to upload binary blobs anyway. While I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, it would suck if anyone got into trouble for this, especially SUSE. So what is the best way to deal with this? Do we email the users? If they don't respond, should admins delete packages? Maybe an automatic blacklist could be implemented when creating a package, to prevent the most common forbidden packages being uploaded? Also, I think part of the problem is that there is no workflow for people who want to help update packages in openSUSE:*:NonFree. How can, if at all, a user contribute to those packages without breaking the rules? Is, for example, creating a branch allowed? Hi, LyX fails to build for SLE_11/i586. The reason is that two versions of texlive are mixed and thus there is a conflict. Texlive-bin-devel is from the project Publishing itself, but texlive-devel is taken from SLE_11 (although it is available in Publising). Result: file X from install of texlive-devel-2007-219.34.6.noarch conflicts with file from package texlive-bin-devel-2010-74.1.i586 Can someone look into this please? Or is there something I can do about it? I would be nice to have everything green. As far as I can see "gle-graphics" is the only other package in Publishing that is having this problem. Add's a new parameter, 'gitdepth' that can be used to define the "history depth" of the git clone/pull. Default behavior stays the same, i.e., tar_scm creates a shallow clone with depth=1.
