Hello, whether I add "Packager" in a spec file or not, rpmlint complains in both cases. One time because of hardcoding. The other time because it is missing. Could this please be fixed? What I would like to see is that the buildservice-email-address also used in the GPG key of the repository is automatically copied into the spec (like e.g. changelog or revision). Is this possible (thought that would not fix the hardcoding error message) or can the name+email be added in the build command directly? [opensuse-buildservice] Requesting to create a top level project for evolution

Hi, We would like to create a top-level project for evolution to provide daily builds from svn trunk. Since we do not have sufficient permissions, it would be great if someone creates it for us or grant permissions for the same. We also have some queries on using build-service for creating builds from svn sources, * Does build-service has an option to check-out sources from svn.. * Is it possible to set an option which triggers build at set intervals (daily/weekly etc.) I searched for the above options, build could not find them. If its not there already, is someone working on it? [opensuse-buildservice] Requiring a generic webserver

Hello, I'm starting to learn OBS and for that I'm trying to package a program that requires a webserver to be installed. I've looked at a sample spec file from a Fedora RPM and it simply solves the problem by specifying: Requires: webserver So I'm wondering, is this possible in OBS/OpenSUSE? Is 'webserver' a meta-package that let's the user choose between the available webservers? (apache, cherokee,...) BTW, it happens the same with the dependency "smtp-daemon" in this fedora rpm I'm mentioning. And I recently asked a question on IRC about this, but related to database engines so, if this is supported, can I do something similar for requiring mysql OR postgresql? (As I've been told that rpm doesn't support this out of the box; I wonder if we should advocate for a RFE upstream about a new "packageor()" keyword.) Hello all of you, virtualization addicts! [reference] OpenVZ is container-based virtualization for Linux -> http://wiki.openvz.org/Main_Page [/reference] It's been quite a while since any OpenVZ kernel package shows up on the Build Service. SLES10 2.6.16 kernel is still maintain by the OpenVZ team but openSUSE users had it hard getting newer OpenVZ kernel running without giving up on Suse kernel configuration and patches. So here comes the new 'Virtualization:OpenVZ' project hosted on BS. It aims at providing recent openvz kernel builds while being as close as possible to the original Suse kernel ABIs and default configurations. Some trade-offs had to be made though. Most notably, Apparmor patches could not accommodate with OpenVZ ones. I suspect this would take a significant amount of work and testing to get them both. Two OpenVZ kernels has been packaged: - 2.6.24 -> Virtualization:OpenVZ:STABLE sub-project, available repositories : SLE_10, openSUSE_10.3 and openSUSE_11.0. - 2.6.26 git -> Virtualization:OpenVZ:HEAD sub-project, available repositories : openSUSE_11.0 and openSUSE_Factory. Appropriate administration tools are included in each repository. Packages are: kernel-ovz-default, kernel-ovz-pae, kernel-ovz-debug vzctl, vzquota, linux-kernel-headers, kernel-ovz-source. OpenVZ requires templates to create containers. You can find some of them at http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated or create one yourself (search openvz wiki). I will soon add an openSuse 11.0 template in the 'Virtualization:OpenVZ' repository. Also you need IPv6 enabled (use Yast) to load required openvz kernel modules. Last but not least, please consider those packages at beta stage. Comments/bug reports are greatly appreciated. Especially I would be grateful to any experienced kernel packager who would have a look at Virtualization:OpenVZ:HEAD/kernel-source and the set of diff applied to Kernel:HEAD/kernel-source and tell me if I did commit any 'spec file blasphemy'. [opensuse-buildservice] BuildService documentation not acceptable

Hello, now I'm with the build service from the very beginning and know a lot stuff how to use it, but this week I wanted to try something new and needed documentation for it. It is impossible to find anything useful about buildservice project configuration: a) I wanted to know how to use Prefer:, Substitute:, Ignore: and all the others. There is no documenation on the wiki pages and also nowhere else a I tried was a link to helpful information. But when I know what I search and after hours don't find anything, a beginner will fail totally. b) I tried to find out how to change the package version. I know there exists a method to do so and I also know it has been discussed multiple times on this list. Only after I scanned the obs sources I found the way it works using <CI_CNT>.<B_CNT> and this helps to scan this list for the mails. The minimum I would expect ist that the page http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Build_Service has entries to relevant information or to a link list pointing to further non-wiki information. Hello, I'm packaging my first app in OBS. It's noarch and firstly focused on OpenSUSE 11.0. It depends on some packages I've found that are available in this repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/perl/openSUSE_1… So then I've included it in the metadata of mine, using: osc meta prj -e home:knocte:bugzilla My XML ends up being: <project name="home:knocte:bugzilla"> <title>OBS packages for bugzilla server software</title> <description></description> <person role="maintainer" userid="knocte"/> <person role="bugowner" userid="knocte"/> <repository name="openSUSE_11.0"> <path repository="standard" project="openSUSE:11.0"/> <path repository="openSUSE_11.0" project="devel:languages:perl"/> <arch>i586</arch> <arch>x86_64</arch> </repository> </project> Now it seems that there is a problem on the resolution of dependencies because I'm only able to install the packages apparently by 1 of 4 ways I've tried: 1) 1-click install from software.opensuse.org: I get wierd problems about not being able to contact with the repository. 2) Adding my home repository to Yast->Software repositories, and trying to install it from Yast->Software Management: I get a segmentation fault. 3) Adding my home repository to Yast->Software repositories, and trying to install the package with zypper ("sudo zypper install bugzilla"): > sudo zypper install bugzilla root's password: Reading installed packages... Problem: nothing provides perl-Email-MIME >= 1.816 needed by bugzilla-3.2rc1-19.1.noarch Solution 1: do not ask to install a solvable providing bugzilla Choose the above solution using '1' or cancel using 'c' [1/C]: 4) Adding my home repository *and* the devel:languages:perl repository to Yast->Software repositories, and install it from Yast->Software Management: it works! What should I do to get the package working with all ways and not only the last one? It would be good if we could document a proper set of these on a wike page that could be referenced. I know I see a lot of packages on the BS with similar mistakes. I think it could be very useful to have a few packages documented in what would be a correct fashion. An example of good or proper methods for the various cagetories like languages, configure, devel, doc, libs... That way we could refer people to them to get ideas on how to fix their stuff. [opensuse-buildservice] spec file wizard - how to proceed?

Hi, as you probably noticed, the buildservice web interface now has a wizard that helps with writing spec files. Yesterday, I improved it to generate better spec files for perl and python modules (not yet on build.o.o) and I hot already advice on how to add support for apache modules and ruby gems ;-). Of course I'd like the wizard to be able to package as many kinds of packages as possible, but I see some problems I'd like to solve somehow before adding more features: Problem #1 (more theoretical than practical): the main part of the wizard is implemented in the frontend (aka API), the webclient only translates xml to html forms and vice versa. The reason for this is that I'd like to add a wizard interface also to osc one day. The problem is that so far, the frontend has been just a simple proxy to the backend, with access control, without any fancy functionality. Now the wizard adds potentially buggy code that doesn't necessarily need to be there (it would be easily implemented as a standalone application talking to the frontend). The only reason for having the wizard on the frontend is to be able to use it from different clients easily. Problem #2 (practical): To implement good heuristics, the wizard at least needs to look into the source tarball (if not run some commands...). Here comes the problem: 'tar tf foo-1.1.tar.bz2' can take a *lot* of cpu time, so where to perform such expensive actions? a) on the frontend - can be abused for DoS easily b) let the client send the filelist along with the tarball - makes the client implementation too complicated, plus moves the DoS problem from the frontend to the webclient c) on the backend, dispatching the jobs to workers - would also allow for more dangerous analysis of the package, but would impose additional delays d) create a separate wizard service and do all the job there - would also solve problem #1, but would make the client implementation a bit more difficult (need to talk to two different servers) e) [insert great idea here]? Hi! Maybe I missed some important part of docs, but how one is able to install debian files with apt-get? As an example: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/midgardproject:/midgard19-d… There are correct i386 and amd64 directories with packages, but only one Packages file. It contains either amd64 or i386 paths. Randomly. Is there any workaround? Packagers/Developers, during the merge of sf.net, sls.de and the openSUSE support forums at forums.novell.com into the official openSUSE Forums, we decided to establish a dedicated subsection for questions about the openSUSE Build Service. In addition to that, there's a section dealing with programming/scripting in general. The ultimate goal of that approach was to achieve synergies for the OBS out of the openSUSE Forums (especially to achieve the participation of folks not that used to mailinglists). Unfortunately these sections in the Forums are not that frequently used, questions by newbies could not be answered appropraite as we lack participation of advanced folks in programming/scripting and packaging. Therefore I'd like to ask you if it would be possible for you to help us and participate in the following section of the openSUSE Forums? http://forums.opensuse.org/programming-scripting/ The OBS section is designed as a subsection here, http://forums.opensuse.org/programming-scripting/opensuse-build-service-obs/ The whole OSF staff would be pleased if you'd be able to help out and provide some of your experiences to new and existing users interested in the OBS and programming/scripting in general. As I said we hope to achieve synergies and bring you back some folks interested, but not that used to mailinglists and prefer the Forums as a communication medium. Especially for openSUSE:Factory one will end up with quite some versions of the same package over the years since osc is currently not wiping old versions. IMHO osc should do that since it knows best when a newer version has to be downloaded. I myself clean up that cache once in a while manually... having a 10mbit line allows me to even wipe files I would still need and redownload them (anyhow, most likely when I start osc next on a Factory target, have of the distro is changed). Hi, I think the following is a bug: osc build ... mozilla-xulrunner191 Getting buildinfo from server buildinfo is broken... it says: expansion error: nothing provides mozilla-xulrunner191 Yeah, nothing provides mozilla-xulrunner191 since I'm just going to build it? Probably related to the new PreReq handling since that package contains a subpackage which PreReqs %{name}? This also probably only happens as long as there is no built package available in OBS already since there were no sources committed at that point. So I just committed what probably doesn't build at all and within OBS it starts building at least and doesn't fail with unsatisfied build requirements. Hi all! I would like to announce that we successfully built Xfce 4.6 Alpha (4.5.80) in openSUSE BuildService. Packages are prepared in X11:xfce:unstable project[1] and could be downloaded from web repositories[2]. However, please be aware. These packages haven't been tested, the only guarantee I could give you is that they can be built :) I also do not recommend installing these packages over Xfce 4.4 packages (yet). [opensuse-buildservice] Easy way to fix .changes entry with the submitreq workflow

Hi, I recently got some GNOME:Factory super powers, and while reviewing a bunch of submission, it appeared to me that most of the time, what's wrong with them is just some tiny detail in the .changes entry. It takes quite some time to decline/delete the submission and ask the submitter to fix this, especially since I could fix things myself really quickly. Is there an easy way to handle this kind of case? Ideally, I'd just want to have an editor being launched with the .changes entry and to fix it there, then accept the submission. Hi, currently I am working on upstream integration in BuildService. I have first patch for OSC. If you want to, you can take a look. If you have any related ideas, feel free to reply. For make this totally work, we also need to extend server backend of buildservice... I am thinking about some special "upstream scheduler" which have information about all _upstream files and trying "svn co" (or offcourse similar command for other supported SCM) which are compared with previous release numbers (stored "somewhere" :-) ) and if they are different new tarball are created and changes are commited. Do you have better idea how solve this problem? Hello, Almost all apache2 modules rpms in Apache:Modules project are failing for factory. When loading the needed packages it show lines like this: installing apache2-2.2.8-49.1 STARTVAR for fillup_and_insserv no longer supported (rc.config is gone since SL8.0) error: %post(apache2-2.2.8-49.1.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 Is it a bug or is any new feature?. I'm having a problem doing local builds after I switched a project from using SUSE:SLE-10:SDK to openSUSE.org:SUSE:SLE-10:SDK. The packages build fine on the server, but for local builds I get 'BuildService API error: buildinfo for package aaa_base/x86_64/None is incomplete'. Any idea why it's only happening for local builds? Hi, I needed a way to feed additional http headers to the api server (for authentication purposes). So I've added optional 'http_headers=...' to .oscrc in the individual api host sections, available from svn revision 4716. The option takes a comma separated list of 'Attribute: Value' pairs. Yo This patch adds the flag --project to osc prjresults, overriding other mechanisms of figuring out which project to look at. One thing it doesn't really cover is: osc prjresults --project=Editors:Emacs ~/builds/Editors:Vi That'll get the results from Editors:Emacs. However, since it's an arguably nonsensical command line, maybe do_prjresults should bail instead. But I think my patch is right as is anyway. Thoughts? The patch also includes a pair of trivial grammar fixes. :) Michael.

Hi, I tried to package “gtk2-engine-nimbus” in GNOME:Community (the Sun default Gtk theme known from OpenSolaris). Everything works, but I failed to generate a 32 bit subpackage for x86_64 (to have the theme also in 32 bit applications like Adobe Reader). I have “baselibs.conf” with following contents: ------- 8< ---------- gtk2-engines-nimbus ------- >8 ---------- That works for “gtk2-engine-murrine” in X11:xfce. But there's no 32 bit package in [1] while there is one in [2]. Can somebody help? Our goals is to setup some kind of universal repository for third-party packages. This repository should be viewed as a community-driven extension of Factory, with all standards and limitations applied. Current model of third-party packages for openSUSE is broken in many user's opinion. There are lots of packages across hundreds of Build Service projects, which is hard to download & navigate. Packages are often duplicates, and aren't tested. Current model is good for experimentation and development but is bad idea for deployment. We want to make a new model, which suites deployment & distribution. ... How can I change that? the architecture is set to i586 in the configuration files and I could not find a way to change target_cpu macro from the default i386 to something else like i686 or i586. [opensuse-buildservice] Problems with rpmlint?

I really do not understand a lot of the rpmlint junk. For example in Package python-postfix-policyd-spf (Project home:gerberb) I have in my spec file. # Requires: python cron I have also tried # Requires: python # Requires: cron But I get this error message. python-policyd-spf.noarch: W: missing-dependency-to-cron for logrotate script /etc/cron.d/policyd-spf This package installs a file in /etc/logrotate.d/ or in /etc/cron.*/ but doesn't require cron to be installed. as cron is not part of the essential packages, your package should explicitely require cron to make sure that your logrotate or cron job is executed. But as you can see it does require cron.. There are others, but I just changed the spec file back to the first one above. I am also confused about shbang? Hi, This is not relevant, but I've observed that the time displayed in some OBS status web pages are delayed about 4 minutes. I'm wondering why OBS is not time synced with ntp. This leads me to another OT question: Is there any Novell plan to contribute with a bunch of NTP servers in some regions around the world (or at least contribute to pool.ntp.org) I'm asking that because I am the owner of a server which is listed as stratum-2 in Spain and a lot of openSUSE users choose my server as ntp server because is suggested by Yast. Hi, in order to fit better into the current buildservice structure the OpenLDAP project has been moved into the newly created "network:ldap" namespace. Additionally I took the chance to reorganize the packaging a bit. There are different subprojects for the different release branches of OpenLDAP.org. For Packages from the 2.4 release branch that makes: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ldap:/OpenLDAP:/RE24/ and packages from the 2.3 release branch can be found here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ldap:/OpenLDAP:/RE23/ If you were using the repositories from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenLDAP/ please update you configuration to one of the above as I plan to remove the old project in a few weeks. (Rebuilds have already been disabled for the old project). Additionally I have plans to add other LDAP related packages (nss_ldap, pam_ldap) to the "network:ldap" namespace as time permits. I'm currently helping the ACE developers (C++ communication framework plus an ORB based on it, see http://www.cs.wustl.edu/~schmidt/ACE.html for details) to use the OBS as their primary source for installable packages (primarily getting the spec in shape for SuSE/Novell). In the end they intend to build packages for every distribution that the OBS supports, thus integrate the work of various packaging teams. The work is currently done in home:jwillemsen but when things are working, we would like to move it to a more pominent place and thus I'd like to create the toplevel project ACE. Hello, My main reason to get the PPC build service running is KDE4.1. In using the openSUSE build service, I have run into two things where the spec parser use to determine build requirements does not behave the same as the internal rpm spec parser. The first case is the following construct: %define with_foo 1 %if 0%{?sles_version} && 0%{?sles_version} < 11 %define with_foo 0 %endif This should end up as with_foo = 1 on all platforms but SLES10. However, it appears that the build service thinks it always evaluates to with_foo = 0. You can see this by looking at the rpmdebug page in the home:pzb project. The second issue is that it is valid (at least according to rpm) to have the following line in the spec: BuildRequires: perl-libwww-perl # Fix HTTP:: alternatives This is a build requirement followed by a comment. However, the build service tries to require '#', 'Fix', 'HTTP::', and 'alternatives' in addition to perl-libwww-perl. Is there a bugzilla component for the build service to enter these bugs? Thanks. I have a package, rubyspecs, in my home:pzb:ruby project which is continually blocked by an expansion error. The web interface says it is missing rubygems-mspec >= 1.5.0, but the package is in the same project and building fine. Any clue why the build service is not seeing it? Thanks. Hi i try to write a C# dll to use opensuse API, i use https://api.opensuse.org/apidocs#61 for doc , there is a more complete doc/description, for example if i want to set user data : PUT /person/<userid> I gess after i should put somthing like : ?realname=test But it doesn't work Another thingh missing for example is the list of aviable tag and metada. [opensuse-buildservice] OBS design error?

Hi, While working with OBS, I've noticed that all the meta data configuring the projects and packages is stored only on the server, and is treated with special commands. This has the disadvantages of making it harder for users to backup their projects locally. It is a key piece of information that does not follow the source code and spec files. It would be really useful if this information were at least cached in the .osc subdirectories somewhere, in my opinion. The problem is that my firefox was not finding 127.0.42.2 so I had to use vhosts. [opensuse-buildservice] Scripts & build service

Hi, I'd like to port the script I've written that populates the database behind http://tmp.vuntz.net/opensuse-packages/srcpackage.py to the build service. It's using data from autobuild, right now. This would imply periodically downloading all spec files (at least for GNOME:Factory), and maybe a few other things (probably the build logs). I was wondering what is a reasonable frequency to download those files, since I don't want to be blacklisted for abusing bandwidth... Any idea about this? I was thinking of doing it every hour (or more often, if possible). [opensuse-buildservice] What happens with openSUSE:Factory submit requests

Hi, I am one of the mainainers of openSUSE:Tools:*. In order to make the users of other distros than suse happy with working osc clients, I patched e.g. lzma to be packaged on the complete list of OBS build targets. Now that this is working, I have submitted this changes to the openSUSE:Factory maintainer of lzma. There it stays now a while an gets happy. What do I have to do in order to get this submitted to Factory? What is the process? What kind of criteria to I have to meet to get a chance for this to be merged? [opensuse-buildservice] shlib-policy-name-error

Some of my mono-based packages contain helper libraries or bindings. They get a shlib-policy-name-error, which is a fatal error. The error states: Your package contains a single shared library but is not named after its SONAME. It would be ridiculous to rename my package libMonoFuseHelper0, for instance as this is just a helper .so and not in any way the main contents of this package. It would be equally ridiculous to separate the helper library to a sub-package as no other package would ever need it by itself. Does the rpmlint test need to be modified to recognize the mono assemblies in the package? Where can I read the text of the shlib-policy? Would patching the package to put it's helper library in a private directory cause the test to pass? This would probably cause me some trouble as they would require .config files to instruct the runtime where to find the .so. Hi list, I have some prepared packages (i.e. specfile & tarball) that build OK locally. Now I'd like to add them to an OBS project. When I use osc meta pkg -e project-name package-name, I'm asked to fill in the package title and description. Couldn't this step be avoided as the description and title are already available in the package specfile? Or am I simply supposed to copy & paste it? (BTW what takes precedence - specfile metadata of 'obs metadata') ? Hello, I suddenly have problems building bacula. My package links to another user's package (bastianfriedrich) just patching the spec file a little bit, using mysql instead of splite3. The build fails even if I temporarily remove my spec file patch completey. The same package builds (did build?) properly at the links destination. Comparing the two build logs doesn't really show any differences in the rpmbuild itself when the patch is disabled, and just the splite3 vs. mysql diffs when it is enabled. There are of course some differences esp. the lint and permissions part at the end and the setup of the VM. There are lots of packages in the build-service, but I still consider those as "third-party", because they aren't part of openSUSE Factory tree, therefore they won't become part of openSUSE 11.1 release. I would like to take the job of integrating *stable* packages from the community's Build Service home projects, and taking them to Factory. Unstable packages will remain as-is (third-party). Is there a way to get log message into target package when accepting?
