Hi all, Just a quick note to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Shantz and I'm an M.Sc. candidate in Computer Science in Canada. I'll be working on the YaST Education module [1] this summer as part of the Google Summer of Code 2009, mentored by Marek Stopka. I have some experience with YaST module development, locking down systems, Internet filtering, and firewalling from my time working at IBM, so I'm looking forward to implementing this project and making it as easy as possible for parents/teachers to administer their systems. If anyone has any advice or suggestions on the direction for the project, I am more than happy to receive it. Thanks. Hi Folks, I run openSUSE 11.1 OS: Linux 2.6.27.21-0.1-pae i686 Current user: root@55-1-200-195 System: openSUSE 11.1 (i586) KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.9" I install with yast (I guess that is standard) and the first time I tried to install openadmin from the opensuse-edu repo, Yast was complaining about a missing: perl-Crypt-GeneratePassword I found the repo in: download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/perl/openSUSE_11.1/ and tried to install openadmin again. Yast complained now about a missing: perl-time-julianday I found, that "perl-time-julianday" is part of: perl-time-modules (version: 2006.0814-124.4) which I found in: download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss But that does not help me for Yast, which refuses to install the package anyway. [opensuse-edu] [opensuse-project] openSUSE Google Summer of Code Accepted Projects Announced

On Monday, Google announced the accepted projects for all of the Google Summer of Code organizations. The openSUSE Project has nine projects[1] that were accepted for the Summer of Code 2009. The following students have had projects accepted: * Eryu Guan: Porting openSUSE to MIPS platform * Marcus Huewe: Integrating oauth into the openSUSE Build Service * Peter Libic: Prototype git backend for OpenSUSE Build Service Thanks to all who helped make this happen , I will guarantee it won't be a wasted effort!!!!! * Kusum Madarasu: openSIS-MySQL * Jan-Simon Möller: Porting openSUSE to ARM platform * Udit Sajjanhar: OpenID Support for openSUSE Build Service * Jeffrey Shantz: YaST Education Module * Peter Somlo: Synchronization with Mobile Devices * Mohit Verma: NLP+Voice UI system for the openSUSE desktop Of course, we received more than nine excellent proposals. While we couldn't accept every proposal that we'd have liked, we'd like to thank all of the students who submitted proposals. Also, a big thanks to all of the mentors who have volunteered to mentor, worked with students to answer questions about proposals, and provide guidance so far. The next step is the Community Bonding Period[2] to help students get acclimated with the project and learn how to work within the openSUSE Project. Some of our students are already long-standing members of the community, but please give all of them a warm welcome and any assistance they need in getting started. Hi @ll, Andrea http://www.opensuse-education.org/download/test/11.1/ now contains updates for * gcompris (update to 8.4.12 including our patches for 8.4.11) * italc (italc-launcher patches) * kiwi-desc-ltsp (=> cyberorg ?) * wine-doors (desktop file translation fix) http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-edu/2009-03/msg00045.html has already a list, just to keep you updated what's changed comparing to the current official released version: - brainworkshop - exelearning - Scilab - geogebra - ktechlab - childsplay - gcompris - python-pygame - python-numpy - littlewizard - littlewizard-examples - ignuit - avogadro - solfege - atomix - controlaula - openadmin - stardict I'm currently just waiting for Andreas "Go" for scilab. I think all other issues are fixed with the current version, so we can finally release 11.1 as Gold if scilab is ok and nobody raises another problem. Hi, i have been working on the branding packages and i discovered that a lot more packages then expected are needed to get it running correctly.
