Pam_mount on SuSe 9.1

I am trying to install SuSE 9.1 as a workstation in a NT 4 Domain network. The default suse 9.1 install installed winbind etc, and configured them allowing me to log on to ssh with a NT username and password. I now want to configure pam_mount to mount a subdirectory of the unix home directory as the NT home directory. I had configured this on an old SuSE 8.1 box, so I think /etc/pam_mount.conf should be OK. However, having added auth and session lines for pam_mount into /etc/pam.d/sshd I can only get to the stage that in /var/log/messages I see pam_mount: error trying to retrieve authtok from auth code How do I enable pam_mount? My /etc/pam.d/sshd file is as follows #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_unix2.so set_secrpc auth required pam_nologin.so auth required pam_env.so auth optional pam_mount.so use_first_pass account required pam_unix2.so account required pam_nologin.so password required pam_pwcheck.so password required pam_unix2.so use_first_pass use_authtok session required pam_unix2.so # trace or debug session required pam_limits.so session optional pam_mount.so use_first_pass # Enable the following line to get resmgr support for # ssh sessions (see /usr/share/doc/packages/resmgr/README.SuSE) #session optional pam_resmgr.so fake_ttyname Thanks Rob Keeling -- I love deadlines. Modifiying squid acl`s via a teachers web page?

I have been asked if I can set up some way of turning internet access on or off in individual computer areas. The idea would be that teacher logs on to a page on our intranet, to enable/disable access for the lession. I have looked at the documentation for squid guard, which looks like I can enable/disable the right bits and bobs, but I don`t know if I can edit the config files with a php script and things change without restarting squid/squidguard. Does anyone run anything simalar? Thanks Rob Keeling

Not necessarily reload -- sending the squid daemon a HUP signal via the command: /etc/init.d/squid reload should do just as well. But you have to do more than just install squid{,guard} and hope for the best. You have to configure squidguard to filter based on ACLs which you yourself define. I wrote an article or two about this in the Linuxgazette some moons ago -- and I'm sure the extensive documentation on the squidguard site will help you. If there's someone out there who would welcome the opportunity to explain/demonstrate to Microsoft UK's Education Group just what can be done with Open Source software, and why it's a valid alternative (without the tedious and very predictable anti M$ slurs), would they care to contact me? Out of pocket expenses would be met...

Cache box configuration

We currently use a basic squid install as our on site proxy server, our LEA is suggesting that we should move to one of the proprietary cache boxes, though as always funding is a snag. I am happy with the way squid is performing, though it would be nice to add the facility to pre-load web sites into the cache. What I have in mind is a links database on our intranet, which staff can approprate links to. This can then be used to provide a list of sites that can be pre-cached. Jobs for the boys

Hi all: Similar in content to David's earlier post, I am also looking for work, albeit down the line a bit. My wife has been given a conditional offer to study at Plymouth University which means that I will need to move to support her and my 2 year old daughter. She has deferred to September 2006 which gives us time to find a place to live and for me to get a job. In my schools to date I have had quite a fight getting Linux in but have managed with varying levels of success so I would ideally like a school that has a tacit commitment to open source if anyone knows of such a position likely to come up. At my current school I have set-up quite a successful web business in order to deliver AVCE/Applied GCE so would want more 6th form than anything else, but I know beggers can't be choosers. I have used Mambo and eGroupWare on the sites so far for local primary schools so am reasonably okay with this technology. Not quite to TA's level, but I get by. Paul In conjunction with this, my school is looking for a network technician. They run a Novell network and we are making moves to migrate to Linux desktops in a year or so depending on Novell's commitment to this. There is a bit of money coming in so I suspect the salary could be negotiated to the high 20K range. Not a great deal for guhru's, but a good start for someone and a good environment to test and apply open source. The school is near Bath in a town called Writhlington. -- De omnibus dubitandum
