Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Modifiying squid acl`s via a teachers web page?
--- Rob Keeling
I have installed squid & squidguard which might work, but it looks like I have to re-start squid to reload the settings.
Yes? Not necessarily reload -- sending the squid daemon a HUP signal via the command: /etc/init.d/squid reload should do just as well. But you have to do more than just install squid{,guard} and hope for the best. You have to configure squidguard to filter based on ACLs which you yourself define. I wrote an article or two about this in the Linuxgazette some moons ago -- and I'm sure the extensive documentation on the squidguard site will help you. Failing that, post back here with what you'd like to happen, and we'll see what we can do.
I think our it staff are after something that they can turn access on and off again every 10 mins during lessons without affecting other rooms.
Any suggestions?
Again, it's an ACL issue -- assuming each room has an IP subnet range (or a range of IP address unique to it) then you can block/unblock based on this. -- Thomas Adam "The Linux Weekend Mechanic" -- http://linuxgazette.net "TAG Editor" -- http://linuxgazette.net "<shrug> We'll just save up your sins, Thomas, and punish you for all of them at once when you get better.
