How do I kill kde and return the server to just a login so that I can save on resources. I have never done this as I am a child of the gui and it is killing my web server on the net. Paul

What do people use for a desktop database?

What are people using for a desktop database? Or what options are there? If we were to move to Linux in the curriculum we would need a useable Database for our sixth form projects. Thanks Rob

Still can't get this to go. SMTP works fine and mail goes into and out of linux box via the router. Local mail works on linux box. A PC connecting to the linux box can send mail OK via SMTP to Linux box (which uses postfix) BUT I can't get POP3 nor IMAP connections to read any mail. Either it refuses the login from the mail client or complains about the authorisation. I can see imap,and pop3 in netstat as listening devices. Clearly I am missing something. Do I need to fiddle with Hosts.allow/deny Telnet works OK - as does xdm sessions to PC clients. Do I need to fiddle with Cyrus or PROCmail? -- Alan Davies Head of Computing Birkenhead School

Does anyone know which file I have to edit in to order to stop people logging into anything other than kde? Ive done it once before but I cant remember which file need editing. NFS wont mount

I have just upgraded to suse 9. My machine is set up as an NIS client. But it wont moount any home directories. Actually this isnt strictly true. In order to actually make it an NIS client in the first place I had to add a line to /etc/fstab to mount the home direcories, which looks like this: homer:/home /home nfs rw 0 0 But when the machine boots, this line appears to be ignored. If I go to command line and type mount -a it reruns fstab and mount everything fine. My question is why doest this happen at boot up? Am I missing something this line that would stop it mounting at boot time? I have had a look through the suse manual but it doest list many examples of options that can be used in fstab. All of them seem quite irrelavent for what I need to do. But also had a search on the net but couldnt Find anything of any help. Has anyone else had this problem?
