Ive done that to all the TC servers except one as I cant get the display up using KVM switch. And just pulgging in a monitor and keyboard is quite that simple. As the server is in a rack with sides on under some other servers. So if anyone knew the specific files that needed editing it would be really helpful. Many users are given their own file in which to envoke a window manger, i.e.: $HOME/.xsession if you elide this file, then the system-wide one will be used which is in: /etc/X11/xsession editing *that* file will force them to login to whatever WM you choose.
