Hello Community
Check out the state of LTSP5 in upcoming openSUSE-Edu Li-f-e: Linux
for Education[1] based on openSUSE 11.2 RC1.
Some of the highlights in the release:
* Hybrid iso image, single image to burn to DVD or dd it to USB stick,
USB session can be persistent if second partition is created[2]. It
can easily be installed on the hard disk by running live-installer
from the desktop.
* Fully preconfigured LTSP server, just double click the icon on the
desktop to setup/start the services.
5 users are already created for testing, linux1 - linux5, password is linux.
* We have switched to new clicfs for the iso as well as LTSP chroot image
* iTalc pre-configured to run in live session
* Sessions includes Gnome 2.28 + KDE 4.3.x + Sugar 0.86 + IceWM
* Applications include tons of Educational apps, graphics,
development, multimedia including players and codecs.
Download from here: http://www.opensuse-education.org/download/
As many of developers are at the LTSP hackfest BTS, it would be great
if you can give it a test and give your inputs to guide us make this
release the really useful LTSP distribution.
As always we would also like to hear from the users what they would
like improved.
Kind regards
Jigish

Hey Guys,
With the help of the opensuse team, I have created an openSUSE specific
RPM of openSIS 4.5.0.0.update1 in the OBS (open build service) it can
downloaded at
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Education/openSUSE_11.1/noarch/op…
This is an early simple RPM to get the software in the right place,
scripts for automations will need be addressed later.
JT
p.s.
I have the ability to build a .deb and a RedHat RPM but need help with
those packages.

Hello Community
With the release of openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 8[1], we have new images
ready for you to test based on this latest release.
M8 is last milestone before RCs(Release Candidates) start. Some of the
highlights of new kiwi-ltsp images are:
* The image uses new clicfs[2] in place of squashfs+aufs that were used on 11.1.
* Firefox, IceWM, xterm and now ekiga available as ltsp-localapps out of the box
* Graphical boot loader, thanks to Alkisg for tip :)
* CONFIGURE_X no longer required
To try this new image on currently running server:
mv /srv/kiwi-ltsp /srv/kiwi-ltsp-backup
mv /srv/tftpboot/boot /srv/tftpboot/boot.backup
mv /srv/tftpboot/KIWI/lts.conf /srv/tftpboot/lts.conf.backup

Boot up the thin clients.
Another major announcement is the new home for kiwi-ltsp, we have now
moved to launchpad[3] as novell forge[4] is shutting down.
To get the code from launchpad:
bzr branch lp:kiwi-ltsp
I am yet to figure out if launchpad does mailing lists to migrate both
the lists we have on Novell forge.
All the bugs and feature requests now goes on launchpad[5] :).
Looking forward to your testings and bug/feature requests.
