Hi Has someone a good idea for a "openSUSE-Education" logo? I see http://en.opensuse.org/MiniSUSE - and I know that there must be someone here who can produce a "better" one for the education project! :-) - perhaps a gecko looking like a teacher? - perhaps a gecko teaching little penguins? - ...<place for your ideas>... Hi Luckily I've time for have a first look through the packages for openSUSE and here is the result: a first "draft" for the new "education desktop" pattern for openSUSE 10.3. This pattern should show up when you install openSUSE for the first time and click on "details" in the software selection. Or when you open the Software-Dialog after installation. [opensuse-edu] Submit two software packages to Education:desktop

Hi,all. I'd contribute my packages to Education:desktop. A, stardict 2.4.8 (package in Facotry version 2.4.5) StarDict is a Cross-Platform and international dictionary written in Gtk2. It has powerful features such as "Glob-style pattern matching", "Scan selection word," "Fuzzy query," etc. Comparing with 2.4.5, version 2.4.8 supports more dic formats that are popularly used in China. B. celesta 1.4.1 (package in Facotry version 1.3.2, which is currently linked to Education:Desktop) The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. These two packages can be linked from my build service repo home:Thruth Thanks for consideration. Hi FYI: * http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Education => to get your site listet in this category, please add: < [[Education]] [[Category:Education]] at the top of your site. * http://en.opensuse.org/Edu-cd => I like to collect the thinks for the Edu-CD on this page - let's call it a "subproject" of the education project. * http://en.opensuse.org/Education => The "main" entry site. I tried to split off large entries to different articles to keep this site as a good overview site for the whole project. * http://en.opensuse.org/Education_News => In the past this was integrated in the education site and only James added his private comments. I like to see this page more as an advertisement for the education project (as you can see it is directly linked with the official openSUSE News). The sites have currently only text entries. Lars, these server packages are some of the current best of bread but would be more work to build the ERP solution. Koha is not a true LAMP app but dupliates openbiblio using perl and is very well respected. ClaSS is similar to Centre although CLaSS is very young and its feature set is still imature but it is already a true LAMP product. The three packages that would be a priority to me are Centre Moodle Openbiblio The goal I have for a School ERP is based on these three packages. These are all written in PHP, Centre merely needs MySQL porting to be truely a LAMP product and more compatible with the others, do you know of anyone in the OpenSUSE group who might be able to do this, I can write my contacts asking that it become a priority. I have already written to the core maintainers of these projects and asked if they would take code from us that would help them integrate with one another. Centre is a BIG yes, Moodle is looking at it and Openbiblio is a source forge product and they have not returned an answer to me, I would like to fork it into Centre. We will of course include any school management tools that someone wants to work with but they need to step up and work with us on the testing and integration. I will see what I can do about setting up a sabayon and kdekiosk demo for my teachers and ask them to evaluate. How about making the parent\teacher user during installation and building a student\class\child administration tool basically a less technical looking more parent\teacher featured version of yast2-users with the new settings for the sabayon or Kiosk tool? Then we could stick that right on the desktop of the parent\teacher and have that user setup as a "priveledged user" like SLED SP1 does for ZMD users, with extra privledges for adding users, updates and software packages. Just to ease your work this time through, I would have to think that just pushing Sabayon\KDEKiosk tool and yast2-users to the "parent\teacher desktop" and pointing to there "online" documentation would be a great start. p.s.
