Midi externals and SBLive?

Ok, I have been reading about driver and alsa development with the SBLive. According to what I can find the midi and other parts of the device and it's abilities are or may still be lacking/undeveloped. The problem I'm having is that I can get the sound fonts on my external synth to be seen/read while using any number of programs (e.g. audicity, Jazz, etc..). I can't get the connection to recognize any key input from the externel regardless of what config I use (jackd, jackconnect, aconnect, ad naseum, etc....). However, I have found sites like 4fornt, OSS, Alsa that say one of the cards I have SB128 has better support for external midi. Anyone have any hints, places to get info about this. I would really be interested in getting the keyboard to trigger sounds in real time and the record them and edit/map then. I want to use the external keyboard since I can compose better. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Cheers, Curtis.

Autocrop with gimp

Dear my friends... I need to have some pictures that I make with Gimp. I need some pictures to put them on my homepage. My homepage has a background motive (<body background="bgprabu.jpg">). The problem comes because I need my pictures without background (white color) so the background motive of my homepage seen just stop on the edge (side) of my pictures. Now, what is happening on my homepage is the background motives stop on the white background of my pictures. I tried to crop my pictures. So I want to take the pictures but not the background of my picture (with white color) because if I open these pictures with gimp than I can see that these pictures have actually square form. I need only the object of the picture but not its white background so I should crop the area of the picture where content the picture. I tried to crop my pictures with autocrop : - select the picture with one click, - right click, - select image, - select transform, - select autocrop. But nothing happen on the picture. I can not remove the area outside the picture object. I tried to take crop the picture : - View in (Zoom in), - and select the region with hand drawn regions, - and crop it, - copy it onto a new canvas with transparent background, But after I save it and open it back (again) than I find the picture which just I made with transparent background still has the white background. Please tell me how to do that. I read the documentation and follow what it said but I still don't succeeded. Thank you very much in advance. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? mplayer / xine does not show DVDs smoothly on 8.2

Under SuSE 8.2 neither xine nor mplayer runs DVDs smoothly. This is clearly a kernel problem. Under the old kernel (2.4.19) everything was fine. Unfortunately SuSE 8.2 can't build the old kernel with gcc 3.3 (pre-release). Was anybody able t watch movies under SuSE 8.2?

Xine & Plugger?

Has anyone managed to get Xine to work w/Plugger under 8.2? If so, would you mind sharing your pluggerrc? --Jerry Open-Source software isn't a matter of life or death... ...It's much more important than that!

Burning multisession problem

Hi, I've bought the cd recorder LG GCE-8520B and I'm trying to use it in multisession. I can't understand the behaviuor of mkisofs...I mean: at first creation of ISO9660 image everything works fine, but at the moment I use the command: mkisofs -r -J -C `cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -msinfo` -M /dev/cdrecorder -o immagine2.iso /opt/TEST I have always to eject and re-insert the cd to have the new image. When this happens mkisofs exits with error: <mkhybrid: Success. Read error on old image> Is there a way to resolve a such problem? Thank you, Fab :) --------------------------------- Yahoo! Hello, Has anyone managed to get a QuickCam 4000 Pro working under Suse? Hello folks, short time, short go today: I need a web design program for Linux (I use Suse 7.3 here) which can use the files from NETOBJECTS FUSION 7 (Winsuck) Explanation for those who are interested: I ran into installing the NOF 7 pack, and it requires that god-damn Win Internet Explorer 5.5 - and as I am moving away from Windoze, I will NOT get that thing. I run Win98 for whatever purposes that Linux is yet incapable to deal with, and Windoze98 does only include IE4.7. Another good example that Windoze sucks major d...!!! NoteEdit doesn't produce any sound

Hi All! My name is Keith Roberts. I have a SuSE 8.1 (pro) setup. I Have installed all the sound packages from CD-ROM after doing a Minimal Linux installation. The problem is this: Noteedit seems to be installed ok. I tell it to play the first example but all it does is run through the demo, highlights the notes played, but there is no sound at all. Alsa loads on Linux boot, and also the cmipci driver. I have a PCI soundcard with a CMI8738 audio chip onboard. The soundcard works with KMIDI, and also with alsasynth, and Vkeyboard. I just cannot figure out why noteedit does not work. Has anyone else had a similar problem with noteedit not working? Thankyou - Keith R.

epson perfection 1260 troubles

I'm having vast amounts of problems with my Epson 1260 USB scanner under SuSE 8.1. I managed to get it working when I first bought it after having deleted the 1.0.8 SANE packages that came with SuSE 8.1 and compiled my own backends, frontends and xsane from the SANE project homepage. About a month ago a friend borrowed the scanner to run on a Windows box, and I just recently got it back, however now it doesn't work. The scanner still works from the friends windows box, so it's not a hardware problem. I've tried deleting all the SANE libraries, binaries and configs and retracing my original steps (or at least as well as I can remember them), and have spent all evening digging through the various documents and trying variations on the config, like using the plustek and epson backends, coding the vendor and product id's in the config files, I have the following two lines in /etc/modules.conf, options scanner product=0x11d vendor=0x4b8 pre-install scanner /sbin/modprobe "scanner" I've tried power cycling the scanner, plugging and unplugging (it does get detected, shows in /var/log/messages), pre-compiled packages from packman.links2linux.de, nothing seems to work. One really strange thing, if I do modprobe scanner it spins off a whole load of child processes and eats up all the memory in the system - 1Gb RAM and 1Gb of swap, making the system freeze - did I mention I've tried resetting! :-( insmod|rmmod scanner works just fine. One other thing I'm seeing is the following line in /var/log/messages when I try and start xscanimage scanner.c: open_scanner(0): Unable to access minor data line repeats twice for (0) and then once for every number in the range 1 to 7 - presumably looking at /dev/usb/scanner[0-7] I've tried remaking the device /dev/usb/scanner0 also, which made no difference. I know this thing works, but can't figure out where I'm going wrong. Anyone got some pointers for me? Thanks Steven
