tv-card configuration in Suse 9.1

Hi all, Yesterday I did a clean install of Suse 9.1. My tv-card (Pinnacle PCTV) did get recognized properly and I could watch television on my pc. The problem I had was that I didn't have any sound. I tried different sound settings from the configuration panel in kdetv, but it wouldn't work. This morning when I turned on my computer I couldn't watch tv anymore. The appropriate device (bt878) was no longer in the list under "Devices" in kdetv. I removed the card from the configuration center and added it again. When I tried to scan for channels I got an error message saying that /dev/video0 doesn't exist. How can I fix it and how do I get sound? Kind regards, Bert Meersma

USB Audio

Hi, i have installed Suse 9.1 Pro and i have a sound card on my motherboard and a USB sound card - SoundBlaster 2 NX. The first card is configured properly with yast but, of course, i want to use the other one. Yast can't find it and i try to configure it as USB generic. I continue with automatic configuration but there is no sound. Also on the usb sound card the mute light is on and it can't be changed. Has anyone configured a usb sound card or has an idea? Thanks!

Hi group, I am working on a project on quality assurance of sound (as a volunteer). I am playing around with the alsa-system and I like it very much. I can - on my Siemens-Fujitsu Amilo notebook - receive the sound thru the double channel microphone and here what I input on the inbuilt loudspeakers ... I also use kwaveview which is almost what I need. However I would like to generate wav-files from the sounds which I generate via the microphone. I used "arecord" but without success. there is no sound in the wav-file when I replay it with "aplay". The problem seems to me rather trivial ... however where is the clue? tia for answering soon Jörg

Mount RCA Lyra MP3 Player - Linux Newbie

Has anyone found a way to mount a "RCA Lyra 128M" MP3 player? I have searched Google many times and nothing listed seems to work for me. And I'm not quite sure what format it may be in. FYI: SUSE 8.2 Thanks in advance, --jj

Xine and Suse 9.1

I've just installed the latest version of xine-lib from source and found that all my video apps were still using the old one (specifically kaffeine was the player I was most intent on using at the moment). I used yast to remove the xine-lib, kaffeine, multimedia3-video-xine and totem packages and then installed xine-lib from source again. I then tried to install kaffeine with yast but I got a dependancy error on xine-lib. At the moment I've got kaffeine installed and working by installing from the latest source tarball but I was wondering if there was any way to let yast know that I've installed xine-lib myself and I don't need to use the one on the dvd. I'd like to have you and yast able to update my media players and I'd quite like if my kmenu had the icons regenerated too... Thanks for reading my ramblings Paul

How do I find out which bunch of coders os working on non creative sound cards?

** I've lived in the real world enough, we're all here because we aint all there ** Hiyas all, I've got an old Turtle Beach card which is making lovely warm sound ... thanxs to a group of guys working on the Au88xx chip card Alsa drivers.. ( This Card is a Monetery ll ) But I want a newer card for this system, and I should so much prefer NOT to have to get a CreativeLabs product. My relationships w/ that company in the past have NOT been happy ones. At the same time, if anyone looks at the Turtle Beach Riviera and Catalina cards, there is so much there for such a small(ish) amount of money. I have talked w/ the tech guys there, and they say they aren't using the Aureal chips any more ( for obvious reasons... Aureal has been bought by Creative <sigh>) Knowing the community, I have to figure *someone* is working or thinking of working on Alsa drivers for these cards. IF they have the usual Turtle Beach sound, and there is no reason they wont, the sound alone would be enough to sell the card, at least to audiophyles ;) The price is more than enough for anyont to give them a look.. the last card in the list apparenly has some drivers somewhere on the site, but , of course, they don't support Linux.. or the drivers.. And I wasn't able to find out if they were Alsa or OSS ( I suspect the tech guys just don't know) I did ask about the sound chip, but evedently the only way to find out what it is would be to buy the card first.. Which IF anyone is actively working on this group of cards I'd certainly consider. Any suggestions as to where or to whom to write would be appreciated. ( I am rather hoping that someone from teh Alsa Group keeps a weather eye on this list , but still, a personal missive couldn't hurt the cause either..) No sound on my SuSE 9.1

Hi, I have problems getting my sound system working. YAST detects a SIS SI7012. When I test the sound board I get at looping sound that last for some seconds. If I test it again I get no sound at all. If I delete the sound board and add a new, yast detects the same sound board and I get the same result when testing the sound board (first test gives a very short looping sound for some seconds - repeated test give no sound). The system is a fairly new clean install of SuSE 9.1. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Regards Bogi
