I am the owner of a pro studio of music recording, i am also a new user of Gnu/Linux Suse 7.3. Before i used win2k and Cubase Vst 32 R1. I need pro (or similar) audio software (i have seen al lot of software but i don't know wich is pro or not) for my Pc (with 2 RME hammerfall Digi 9652) . I need for example a multitraks hd recording, a mixer with the aux possibility (every misician needs to hear what he plays and what the others play in different channels) and so on until a good software to burn audio CDs. Could anyone help me?

Hi all, Just subscribed to this mailing list. I've searched for answers all over the net and I've been unable to find one. I'm using SuSE 7.2 Professional. The manuals state that by simply typing audiocd:/ in konqueror one gets a 'virtual' view of an audio cd including wav files, ogg files and mp3 files if the correct packages are installed. This didn't work out of the box, the news are full of messages saying 'audiocd:/ displays "/ directory doesn't exist"'. So, I had to mess up bigtime with permissions and ownerships of files under /dev until it worked (discovered my user had ownership of some of this files!!). But then, no joy, only wav files were shown (even though ogg/vorbis/mp3 libraries and tools were installed). Reinstalled libraries and tools.... nothing changed. After some more research, I found this is a compile time issue. the audiocd ioslave must be compiled against the necesary libraries for the trick to work. Did an ldd on my kio_audiocd revealed that it was only linked against the cdparanoia libraries, no trace of ogg/vorbis/lame. So... I got the source rpm from my CD's, modified the .SPEC file to include --with-vorbis --with-lame in the ./configure , rebuilt the rpm and installed... nothing, my audiocd view still only shows wav files. I then tried with --enable-vorbisdir=dir --enable--lamedir=dir recompiled and payed attention during the ./configure output... no sign of my libraries being probed for or used (no error messages regarding those libraries either). Rebuilt the rpm, installed... nothing!! ldd still shows no trace of ogg/vorbis/lame libraries. Everything works perfectly but audiocd only shows wav files (even the CDDB feature of audiocd works ok) So, the question is, does anybody know what is necesary to recompile kdebase (from SuSE 's source rpm) against libvorbis, libmp3lame so as to get the audiocd ioslave working correctly? SuSE support could only direct me to this mailing list and I could find nothing in SuSE's support database or the news. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Cheers Oscar Ross

Hi, I managed to get some noise out of my computer by following the instructions on sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/chofman_vortex.html. Now the MP3player and CD-player produce some nice sounds. However, "normal" sound as well as midi do'nt work. Anyone any suggestions how to achieve this? Thanks for the support, René.

Sound Issues

Specs: 333 Mhz AMD K6-2 with 352 MB of SDRAM, Ensoniq AudioPCI 1370 SuSE 7.3 Personal Edition I purchased OSS sound drivers thinking they'd fix my clicky sound in Quake 3. But I see that my computer had ALSA running and OpenAL and an artsd server that should've allowed several sounds to be played at the same time. When I was playing Quake 3 the sounds would interrupt each other. All I did to install OSS was use the install script and use /usr/local/bin/soundon to turn the sound on *ahem*. I purchased the license for the software as well. My questions are. is OSS really better than ALSA/OpenAL? And what tweaks do I need to do for better clearer sound (no clicking) and automatic startup (the instructions included in OSS don't address Suse' file structure. Tony Jones

Gents: I'm trying to get midi-sound up with a SB_16 soundcard. Please advise. CD & RA sound work OKey. ALSA (?) configured, least I think so. Before recent re-install I had midi mysteriously up with Timidity ... Running SusE-7.3_PER / K-6 / 192 ray hartman
