Starting xdm with SUSE 8.2

I always seem to get this problem. New version of SUSE - and there is something which I can't get to work. With SUSE8.0 it was the telnet demon. This seems to work fine with v8.2 - first time (almost). However the remote display manager does not seem to work. I have modified the line in displaymanger to say yes. I have commented out the line in xdm-config. But my cygwin Xserver clients will not connect. What else do I need to look for? (oh - and yes I changed the run level to start up xdm.)

As a matter of interest, ours (will be, pending v23.4.3.5.... approval) is self sustaining, based on a school subscription to services. But then we're using a JANet link and filtering at the school level using evolved Powys type boxes. MS media player and file deletion

Can someone please clarify the situation regarding the ability of MS to delete files from a harddisk, via Media player or using the EULA as a way of doing this, thanks paul

Oops - forgot to copy this to the list. To the best of my knowledge, the government requires you to have a symmetric connection so ADSL is not an option unless it is impossible to get a symmetric connection. A ludicrous directive I know - as anyone who has ever metered their network traffic will agree! Cheers -- Phil Driscoll

Particularly if the user is happy to be severely filtered, as would be required for any pupil accessing school resources through the same network... RM (originally) stood for Research Machines - I believe they are just RM PLC now. They specialise in the supply of really expensive ICT solutions for education, particularly schools. Almost entirely MS, with the exception of their new proxy server, which is Squid. One of the schools we support now pay £230 for a brand new, fully functional desktop PC with 17" flat CRT monitor. Thin (ish) client of course, but the new ones are only needed for multimedia work - secondhand units cost more like £100. Their new servers cost them about £1400 each, have 3 year on-site warranties included. Can only speak for Viglen, but their software is a pain... I use Webmin to configure each SuSE/RedHat server, works really well. Rest is done by Windows machines at the moment. Has anyone any experience in using Print Queues and autodownloading the driver with Win2000 from Linux using Webmin? With a fiddle factor I have managed to set up suse 8.1 to join a NT domain, allow the Domain users to log on with their home directory mounted from an NT server. I haven`t managed the same trick with X windows yet, but hopefully someone is going to point out the glaring error tomorrow. Let me know what your trying to acheve.
