Pam_mount on SuSe 9.1

I am trying to install SuSE 9.1 as a workstation in a NT 4 Domain network. The default suse 9.1 install installed winbind etc, and configured them allowing me to log on to ssh with a NT username and password. I now want to configure pam_mount to mount a subdirectory of the unix home directory as the NT home directory. I had configured this on an old SuSE 8.1 box, so I think /etc/pam_mount.conf should be OK. However, having added auth and session lines for pam_mount into /etc/pam.d/sshd I can only get to the stage that in /var/log/messages I see pam_mount: error trying to retrieve authtok from auth code How do I enable pam_mount? SLES 9.0 Installation, Kernel Panic Out Of Memory.

Hi folks, I just downloaded SLES 9.0 and went to install it on a Compaq Proliant, Pentium Pro, 384MB RAM Server and got the following message: Kernel Panic: out of memory and no killable processes. Is there a way around this? I've tried the "Safe" installation and "text mode" with no effect. Thanks!

New Clothes

Hi to all of those running RM out there, can I pick your brains please? I'm about to have 20 PC's surplus as we update hardware before being forced down the CC3 route. Eventually I'll have 60+ PC's that will be redundant. I want to give these machines a new lease of life by installing LINUX and placing them in study rooms, an internet cafe and other 'like' areas. Initially running only open office, FireFox, and Thunderbird. I will probably use the same active equipment, IP range and domain for this trial. I intend to attempt to have these machines locked down until they squeak as they will be in no-go zones. My question is, if anyone uses LINUX w/s in this form, do they authenticate against the RM servers and if so are there any issues with this? (I authenticate against a WIN2000 box at home, but this is a 'safe' environment and we don't really hot-desk!) And, assuming that you do, do you allow access to the "mywork" areas? How do you implement remote w/s builds across the network? I'd considered a duel partition and 'ghosting' across but most of these w/s only have 4GB HDDs. We try not to have CD-ROMs on any PC's as it's just another item to replace every term! If it's a success and easy to administer, then I'd like to be able to move away from the CC3 route altogether. Comments, experience, suggestions welcome. Kind regards Adrian

Questionnaire design and implementation

Is anyone on this list aware of any open source packages to do questionnaire design and implementation, ideally in a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP etc), with export of results in a spreadsheet? I'm aware that it's not too bad to code something like this by hand, but finding the time to do that is another matter! With the right setup this balance has provided us with a very efficient system, BUT we use Citrix over Unix and Linux (and for music and video over XP) to deliver a Windoze desktop which is nicely locked down and which our non-techie staff can relate to. Keeps training down as well. We also have OOo in use as well and we give it to students to use at home. We are otherwise looking for web based software either online or on CD / DVD to avoid the excessive over-protection applied to some stuff of limited value. We have some excellent online text books in use and we have developed our Intranet to fill the gaps. Setting up templates with Dreamweaver and then providing Contribute to departments has provided a big surge in interest and skill. Open source is mostly under the skin otherwise but keeps costs down. How do you deal with applying patches and updates across the network? Is there a built in mechanism for this ? I'm not sure that running the online update is a good idea/practicable. Adrian

Mounting the users home dirs might well be a bit trickier, to mount a smb share you need the absolute path. We tried Altiris, but couldnt get it to work (and you wont get any support from the company), Zen looks like it'll be an option, as might LSLSA, but the latter currently needs a caching network FS. We're researching this at the moment.
