2k linux dual boot HELP!!!

Hi all I recently (yesterday) installed suse 7.3 on my vaio laptop. The laptop originally had 1 NTFS (primary) and one fat partition (partition) I told suse to remove the extended fat partition and create a new extended partition and format to reiserfs, and install itself to there. I didn't install lilo as I need to see if I could get all the drivers etc.. before I commited myself to running linux on it. Everything went well and booting into linux from a floppy was cool. When rebooted back to windows, it took an absolute ago to boot up and logon, with explorer crashing (what's new eh :P). When I eventually get logged on, if I try to open my computer, after about 5 mins it still shows the old D:\ drive. I know from installing dual boots before that windows should not be able to see this drive and I think this maybe what's causing the problem. Has anyone else had any similar experiences/problems that they managed to get sorted out TIA m:

XP over Linux over RM 2.4 ?

I have been playing around with an idea recently and thought that I might run it past a few of your great minds. (!) I have been getting up to speed with XP and found it to be very reliable and sound, so far. - We have a lot of existing Windows software used for demanding graphical requirements and need to run this on a stable platform. Connecting these graphical computers to RM 2.4 is giving a lot of setup issues. I found a link the otherday, saying how XP can have user configs setup like in NT, ie the 'limited' template can be overwritten. http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/wxppusrm.htm Now, digging through my flagged up forum stuff, I tracked down something from about a month ago which adds another piece to my jigsaw: " Last summer, as an alternative to spending £1200 on a couple of new drives for our netserver (twin 350 PII & 512MB, NT4) I cobbled together a couple of K6-500 (512MB) under SuSE. Logons are via NT4 until next summer, but the files are now served from Linux. The network speed has gone up - W95 logons (including the behemoth scripts) is down from 2 minutes+ to 30 seconds at peak times. Not perception, but a measured improvement only partly accounted for by load sharing ;) Incidentally, the general reliability of the network is right up - and we havn't crashed NT4 once this year (unlike previous years!) Rgards, Paul Ellison " What I am thinking is this: There may be a better method, as this makes add on bits a chore, but, I know that I can use Norton Ghost to create fat-client clones, ie with no RM 'application' build problems, then stream these as complete XP workstations. The problem is that when I verify the global user against that stored on the RM server it will no doubt pick up all the RM tweaks as well. Can I create an intermediary server using some kind of Linux flavour that would authenticate the logon then fetch the user's work files from the RM server which is global to the school? Tape to disk to cd

Hi, I want to play some tape tracks and capture them as audio files to then edit and record to a cd. I know there is a lot of choice so I wonder if anyone has any particular preferences/suggestions etc. -- Best wishes, Derek

SuSE LiveEval on RM Connect Network

My plan is to demonstrate SuSE 7.3 LiveEval, and hopefully have it connecting to the RM Connect 1 network, grabbing an IP via dhcp, and hopefully connecting the the internet. Has anybody tried the LiveEval on a RM Network? During "installation" there's an option to set up the ethernet card -- presumably all I need to do is tell it to use dhcp, set the default gateway (to the IP of the proxy server), and everything will magically work? authentication problem with Apache

Hi We are using Apache and are trying to get the authentication for web folders to work. I have a .htaccess file in a folder and have created a password file using htpasswd. We get the authentication dialogue box appearing with our AuthName in it but the logon refuses to work. I have tried redoing the password file so checking carefully the passwords but to no avail. We get the Logon box 3 times and then a failed logon. I've checked the httpd.conf file and cannot see any overriding config to prevent access? Any ideas? After playing with the CLI on my *really* old made-for-windows linux box, i finally abused xf86config enough to get a sembelence of a GUI running (it's, for some reason, running a 800x600 desktop on a 640x480 resolution). But now when i try to run SaX2 it comes back with and error that the kernel is not in framebuffer mode. how do i set it to framebuffer mode so i can get it working?!?!
