If anyone feels "green-minded" enough to share a lift from junction 17 of the M6, please contact me off-list.

Many thanks for the responses.
It turned out to be a missing directory in the PATH environment (thanks Gary).
Thanks for the other comments about who uses what.

I'm trying to automate an smbmount. I'm trying to
incorporate the password for a share into the smbmount
command, and then I'll bung it in a batch file (I hope
I'm not way off base here). I've tried adding the
password after the command:
smbmount //server/dir /mountpoint password
also
smbmount //server/dir /mountpoint -U teacher password
But the variations (and I have tried quite a few!)
seem to still prompt for the password. I then have to
put it in manually at the prompt and it mounts fine.
My big book of Linux seems to think my syntax will
work without a prompt. I've tried the man pages too,
so I hope I've RTFM ;)
Thanks in advance

Hello all
I've got a fairly simple but annoying problem. On my network I've got two HP4000TN network printers both spooling via samba. One is fine but the other prints a separator page prior to each printout. I've hunted around the web for a solution and looked at the man pages for Printcap etc but can't find anything useful.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.

I'm not too sure what you mean by it `seems to have changed' but it
sounds rather worrying. I assumed you were running an old distro. For
6.2 the ps package is:
$ rpm -qpR /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/procps-2.0.6-5.i386.rpm
..
libc.so.6
..
So if you're running RH6.2 then it suggests like Gary says that your
box has been cracked and you'll need to rebuild your machine since ps
has obviously been replaced with a version compiled against libc.so.5
FWIW, if you are running an old distro ie 5.X then you should upgrade
bind to something like:
bind-8.2.3-0.5.x.i386.rpm
I don't no the name of the one for 2.2 kernel distros. There was a
well advertised bind buffer overflow problem discovered a few weeks
ago.
If you have been cracked then in future it is worth following any
security announcements. I generally see them by reading:
http://linuxtoday.com/
But Cert is the definitive site: www.cert.org, I think.

Open Source in Schools -- Meeting 12-03-2001
============================================
A meeting has been arranged on Monday 12th March
at:
Westwood St Thomas School
Westwood Road
Salisbury
Wilts
SP2 9HS
to discuss the use of Open Source software in schools.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Very many thanks to Paul Taylor of Westwood St Thomas
for his offer of this venue.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Chris Dawkins of Felsted School has agreed to speak, as has Malcolm
Herbert of Red Hat. It is hoped that other items of interest can be
arranged.
A proposal made by Michael Brown of Fen Systems for the formation of an
Association for the promotion of Open Source software in education will be
discussed.
It is hoped that this can be combined with the recent discussion about a
virtual schools' LUG and web site.
A timetable for the day and detailed agenda will be posted shortly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
for discussion:
---------------
I am a Council member of UKUUG and have been charged with the task of
setting up a schools committee: I hope that in this way the various
initiatives which have been made (including the work done by Malcolm when
he was at BECTA and SuSE's work with schools) can be brought together to
improve their impact and avoid duplication of work. So that this work can
have the support of the major Linux distributions and other commercial
interests while remaining independent, I suggest that it be set up in
association with UKUUG.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
All those with an interest in the use of Linux and Open Source in
education are welcome to attend - please let me know if you are planning
to be there.
