[opensuse-doc] openSUSE documentation

Folks, During the openSUSE Asia Summit's community meeting we discussed things that should be & can be done. One of those was about the openSUSE documentation. I checked doc.opensuse.org. I notice that all the documentation are currently copyrighted [1] by SUSE. Although the docs are granted GNU Free Documentation License it sounds proper to have the content ownership under openSUSE. Such a thing should not wait for the creation of a foundation. It also appears that the documentation workload is currently on the shoulders of the SUSE documentation team (only). I would like to help, more specifically collaborating with Kubic/MicroOS team to have a Container documentation. How should I proceed? Hi there, As an openSUSE member and member of a small team of french translator (mainly openSUSE news, wiki, etc...), I am thinking of translating https://github.com/openSUSE/doc-sle-translations/tree/develop/fr/po into French. One of the critic I hear often is that openSUSE lacks an up to date documentation. I do think that a localized reference doc may help the adoption of openSUSE Leap or Tumbleweed. At the moment, I have just forked the repo here: https://github.com/alionetasso/doc-sle-translations but before starting the work, I would like to know if it is or not a good idea and if it is, is there specific things that I should be aware of. Hi, I am a member of openSUSE Chinese team. We used to work on a translation project of openSUSE documentation on Transifex and here are a lot of translation done. Link: https://www.transifex.com/opensuse-doc/opensuse-manuals/ However, here isn't a way to read any translation on https://doc.opensuse.org/ . And the Transifex project was not active for a long time. My questions are: 1. Could you add translation support to https://doc.opensuse.org/ ? 2. Does it use GNU Gettext (po) or other technology? Or it just doesn't support any translation? 3. Could you add a project for documentation on https://l10n.opensuse.org/ ? 4. Can we contribute translation through Github if here is no other way? Hello list, while executing daps, i'm getting that warnings: [warning] /usr/share/daps/libexec/daps-jing: No java runtime was found /home/sascha/RubymineProjects/hoe- manns/docbook/images/src/png/ruby.png not optimized. How is that fixable? Hello, I ran today into the issue https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=992375 However, the documentation https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/reference/html/book.opensuse.re… is not updated as proposed in bugzilla/github. Is there any reason for not updating the online documentation? I highly recommend to generate and update the documentation since Google is referencing it. People with too bright/contrasty displays can turn back those settings. [opensuse-doc] Accessibility of official documentation from homepage

At the moment, accessing the official documentation is quite difficult to find from the openSUSE homepage. Let's take a look at the typical user flow. ------- 1. Types "opensuse" into their browser's address bar, then clicks first link on Google. We are now at the opensuse.org homepage. 2. After failing to find any form of documentation or support link, the user takes a stab in the dark and tries clicking the tiny "wiki" link at the bottom of the page. We are now on the openSUSE wiki homepage. 3. The user looks for a moment to see if there is a documentation link, then resorts to clicking the support link on the top left sidebar. We are now on Portal:Support. 4. A documentation link! Let's click that. We are now on Portal:Documentation. 5. Oh, another page. Then /finally/ there is the actual link to the official documentation. ------- Now while the user could probably have searched specifically for it, I don't think using Google as the main form of navigation for your website is the most intuitive thing to do. Should there be some direct link added to the homepage? Hi there, any activity here? I have some question about Documentation sites. https://de.opensuse.org/Hauptseite /Support/Dokumentation points out to doc.opensuse.org These documents for example point out to https://doc.opensuse.org/opensuse.html#12.2 The EPUBs here i can read with calibre and on my offline ebook reader. The books from https://activedoc.opensuse.org/ are partially not accessible. If i choose 'PDF version' there is no action, if i choose 'EPUB version' i can read this in calibre for example, but not on my offline ebook reader. I contacted the manufacturer ODYS and they said this is not a real EPUB, only websites. I'm no a programmer but i tried to open it with sigil and got a warning that the lines 2 an 3 are not correct. Which version is described here in activedoc , opensuse 13.1, 13.2 ? If only one version is described here where are the older ones? On https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Official_documentation the version 12.3 is not listed, bad. An IRC channel listed here https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Documentation_team is ot available anymore? So, it's hard to get a information on these nested websites for a non-programmer. Over the years i tried to get in and contribute something to documentation or translation but there to much obstacles. It would be nice to make it easier.
