Hi Vincent, hi Frank, hello all,
I think this should at least be reflected in the documentation.
But there is used the su program without even mentioning the login shell
( --log/ -l/ -) option:
Reference > Chapter 21. Shell Basics > 21.4. Becoming Root > 21.4.1.
Using su
http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE/opensuse-reference/cha.n…
I rate the hole reworking and expand the printed/book like manuals was a
great operation (that should be mentioned in the 'highlights' article of
11.4). But maybe it some background (like: su versus su- ; what are
gnomesu, kdesu, gksu, gksudo, xdg-su -c "[command]", ....like?) and
explanations could be done in the wiki (at least as an unstable/stage
version before including it/parts of it to the manuals)?

I have just given a new user (who as got his system a bit ruined) a link to:
Novell: openSUSE 11.2 Start (html) > 6.1 Benutzerkonzept > 6.1.1
Unterschiedliche Benutzerrollen
http://www.novell.com/de-de/documentation/opensuse112/book_opensuse_startup…
witch equates to
openSUSE Start-Up > Chapter 6. Basic Concepts
http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_113/opensuse-startup/cha…
form
Start-Up (Date 09 Mar 2011)
http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_113/opensuse-startup
Have I only not been able to find the passages in the new Reference or
the new Startup or do you think something like it is not more necessary?
I would doubt that it would be really wise to drop basics like that
completely.

Hi,
the English openSUSE 11.4 manuals have been finished and are now ready
for translation. The XML sources are available from
https://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/opensuse-doc/trunk/documents/distribut…
### Tagging ####
In case you would like to make a tag in SVN of your current
translations (which probably is 11.3), there is a script in the susedoc
package, that helps. In order to be able to build books when checking
out the tag, you should tag the complete set (includig books that have
npot been translated)
Below is an example (replace any occurences of
<UPPERCASE> with
1. cd into directory you want to tag
2. Run
/usr/share/susedoc/bin/trunkcopy.sh
-o <PATH TO WORKIN COPY>/opensuse-doc/trunk/documents/distribution \
-t tags/documents/openSUSE11.3 \
--svnroot "https://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/opensuse-doc" \
--osuffix "<YOUR LANGUAGE E.G. de>" \
--nonovdoc \

#### 11.4 Changes ######
Start-Up:
---------
For 11.4 we completely revamped that Start-Up guide. It now consists of
5 chapters derived from the former quickstarts:
* Installation
* KDE
* GNOME
* LibreOffice
* Help & Troubleshooting
The first 3 chapters have been shipped as separate Quickstart with
former openSUSE versions (filenames are the same as before). The
LibreOffoce part is new, the Help & Troubleshooting remains in the
Start-Up.
Reference:
----------
Most of the stuff that has been in previous Start-Up versions has been
moved/merged into the Reference Guide.
Files having been added from old Start-Up:
* xml/inst_yast2.xml
* xml/yast2_hw.xml
* xml/yast2_sound.xml
* xml/yast2_scanner.xml
* xml/newbie_bash.xml
* xml/newbie_perm_i.xml
* xml/newbie_bash_commands_i.xml
* xml/nm.xml
* xml/nm_kde.xml
* xml/nm_gnome.xml
New Guides
----------
Two new guides have been added:
* System Ananlysis & Tuning Guide
(problem detection, resolution and optimization)
* Virtualization with KVM
(kvm, libvirt, qemu-kvm)
Deleted Guides
--------------
* KDE User Guide
* GNOME User Guide
* Application Guide
Very good and up-to-date documentation for these topics is available
upstream:
KDE: http://userbase.kde.org/
GNOME: http://library.gnome.org/
Therefore we decided to replace these three guides with manuals
coverings more complex and less well documented topics (KVM and Tunung,
see above).
