Adding Custom RPMs to autoinstall

Hi, I have managed to setup a nfs /tftp based autoinstall server with using pxelinux (syslinux package). I can now install machines as if i where installing them from cdrom, with autoyast able to have prebuilt customizations to machines. I am running into a problem now though. I would like to add custom RPM´s to the distribution (like oracle client libraries, and some custom font rpms). All the documentation i was able to find states just place the rpmś into the custom directory and in the autoyast xml file add the extra_packages term, though this doesn´t seem to work. As also every time i load the file again in the <yast autoyast> editor it overwrites this and takes it out. Is there any better documentation out there that i could use to add custom RPM packages to the autoinstall tree and be able to select it aswell as install it directly via autoyast? Dumping binary files

Hello, I read that we can dumped file into the system (http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/9.1/html/createprofile.completeconf.…) during installation. I want to dump a binary file (.tar.gz). Should I create my own RPM ? encode the file in BASE64 in a cdata section and use a script to decode it ? or is there an easier way ? Thanks, Pierre

Errors from autoyast SLES8

hi everybody, i must install SLES8 on 20 maschines.So far so good.For this goal i've been made a http repository on my server (see http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/multiplesource.html) for about 3 times. Each time if i want to install SLES8 (without SP3) i get this erorr from yast "error while configuring software selections". My xml file is OK (checked by tidy) and installation from cdrom as repository (install=cdrom, autoyast=floppy:///sles8.xml) works fine... Could anyone explain me what's wrong with my network repository ? Thanks a lot Martin Stefan

GUI error during PXE install

I'm working with Proliant DL360G3 units and SLES9. When I do a PXE boot and start an HTTP install I get an error message stating that the system does not have enough memory to start the X server and drops into text mode. If I boot from the CD and select HTTP install I get the GUI just fine. Ideas, suggestions? Thanks --

Re-using custom rules

I have a question about the usage of the <customN> rule type. Would it be permissible to re-use the same custom rule number if one used exactly the same script in it? That is to say, I have multiple rules that use the same script, but look for different matches on it. Would it be acceptable to re-use <custom1> for all of those rules? I am guessing that it would, because the script would merely be copied into the same file name repeatedly, thus doing no harm... but I thought I would check to see if someone could actually confirm this.

This was posted by someone else a few weeks ago. I don't know if it works: You could redirect the out or input to another concole. Interactive "init" scripts

Hi group, For my installation process, I need to run an interactive process after the installation. I tried to use the "<init-scripts>" element of the config file, but the script output goes into the log file and not to the screen. How can one force some output to the console at that time? The input is read from the console as it should. I use SuSE 9.2. Hi, I'm doing autoinstallations of suse 8.2, sles 8 and sles 9 with pxe. I just noticed that I always have to key in the ip address for autoyast=nfs://IP/path and install=nfs://IP/path in the pxelinux.cfg/0A file. Why? My dhcp Server supplies DNS Information so it shouldn't be to hard to figure out the IP Address of the Server. SLES9: New networkcard and eht-id. Not really a autoyast issue?

Hi, when I install linux using SLES9 my network card will get a unique name in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-id-MAC, in the file there is a 'UNIQUE' value set. When I insert a new network card after the installation, the network card will not get these UNIQUE values....not really a autoyast issue or ist it? SLES9 SP1: Errors in the ntpclient.dtd

Hi, After I' ve configured the ntp-client using the yast2-module, I got the following error: /usr/bin/xmllint -valid -noout /tmp/YaST2-03100-DrDdLb/valid.xml /tmp/YaST2-03100-DrDdLb/valid.xml:16: element ntp-client: validity error : Element ntp-client content does not follow the DTD, expecting (configure_dhcp , peers , start_at_boot , start_in_chroot?), got (peers start_at_boot start_in_chroot ) </ntp-client> ^ After adding the configure_dhcp keyword everythink works fine. [...] <ntp-client> <configure_dhcp config:type="boolean">false</configure_dhcp> <peers config:type="list"> [...] What does configure_dhcp do? I' ve found no info about the setting! Howto fix the bug: - Autoyast-module should add the mentioned line. - Change the ntpclient.dtd => configure_dhcp isn't checked.
