chroot scripts and mkinitrd

I'm trying to setup an unattended network install on a system with an LSI 53c1030 SCSI controller running the boot drive. There's a bug in the SuSE 8.1 installer (SuSE 8.1 is what I'm trying to install) that leaves the mptbase driver that is needed by the mptscsih driver out of the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file, and consequently it isn't included in the initrd, so on the first bootup, mptscsih fails to load and the system can't mount /. To fix this I thought I'd run a chroot script to update the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file. However, although this file appears to run (there's output in the /var/adm/autoinstall/logs directory), the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file remains unchanged. Of course, even if this worked, I'm not sure if it would fix the problem since I'm not sure if the chroot scripts run before or after mkinitrd. I've appended a portion of the autoyast installation file below. Can anyone help me with this? Hi Uwe, i have installed syslinux-1.62-271 but the generating process for the iso-file runs without success. Only the the packages have been copied to /tmp/Yast2-*****. When i start Yast2 and select ISO-Image the system selects the rpms and creates under tmp an iso and iso_skeleton folder, where the rpms are copied. Now when i press the next button to create the iso file, nothing happens. When i look in the y2log there is only the mkisofs command. I have copied these command and tryied this command manually but then there was a segmentation fault. Has anyone an idea? I have had the very same experience and have posted on the SLE list regarding the issue. Many replies came back that there is definitely a problem. 8.1 is my first experience with linux but I also heard from many that YAST didn't used to be such a problem. I only hope that SuSE is paying attention or that there are some plans for resolution. Hello.... X11 Konfiguration funktioniert mit autoinstall nicht

Hi, ich habe einen SuSE 8.0 Installationsserver aufgesetzt und von diesem installiert. Hat prima funktioniert, bis auf die X-Konfiguration : "Yast2 Kontrollzentrum| Hardware | Grafikkarte und Monitor" startet der Konfigurationsbildschirm kurz und bricht danach sofort wieder ab. "yast" aus der shell ausgeführt bringt das gleiche Ergebnis. Wenn ich den Rechner von DVD "per Hand" installiere, funktioniert die X11 Konfiguration einwandfrei. Fällt Euch dazu noch was ein ? partition problem

Hi, I'm new to this list and I don't know if this is the right place to drop my problem, but here it is: I use autoyast1 features with SuSE linux 7.3. Everything works fine, but now I want be able to make a dualboot system. So my first partition is a NTFS partition... - When I use AUTO_FDISK_TABLE then my NTFS partition is removed! - When I create a temp. second ext2 partition, create an '/etc/fstab' file (with the NTFS partition) and use FSTAB_SEARCH /dev/hda2 it will work, but the partitioner can't read the 'etc/fstab' initially. It presents the current partition scheme to me, and when I enter F7 (read /etc/fstab) from /dev/hda2 everything works fine! So, is this a bug in YaST? And what can I do about it? Andreas, I tried your tip. ..yast starts in manual mode, nothing works. I think the problem is in the autoyast and the iso-skeleton. While autoyast creates the iso-skeleton i looked at the /var/log/YaST2/y2log . It seems the problem is in the package selection and the package-copying.. For example: The glibc-2.2 is selected in the autoinst.xml autoyast isn't able to create the suse/i686 directory in the YaST-tmp-dir, needed for the glibc-2.2.5-152.i686.rpm This packages missed in the created iso-image..... I tested an other constellation: An own boot-cd with the minimal-system selection. This cd boots and installs everything fine.
