Problems to create a custom CD

Hi there, i know it's an old thread and i found something on the mailing list but no answer. I'm trying to create a custom made and bootable CD. My system is 8.1 and i am using the patches from 01.01.2003. When i start Yast2 and select ISO-Image the system selects the rpms and creates under tmp an iso and iso_skeleton folder, where the rpms are copied. Now when i press the next button to create the iso file, nothing happens. When i look in the y2log there is only the mkisofs command. I have copied these command and tryied this command manually but then there was a segmentation fault. Has anyone an idea? xf86 packages not installing

Hello, My autoinstallation completes without errors, but when it is through, none of the X11-related packages have been installed. Attached is my control file. I have the base set to Minimal+X11 with a list of addon packages, including xf86, xf86_glx & xf86_3x. There is nothing to indicate that autoinstall even attempted to install these packages, and in the y2logRPM, there is no mention of them. I can send a full set of logs to anyone interested. modular autoinstall file ?

Hi, is it possible to organize the autoinstall file in a more modular way ? Can I include configuration files with only a subset of configuration information ? In this way I would have only one main file and include several configuration files according to my hardware and software selections and I could setup a simple construction kit for different hosts with different installation specifications. If yes, can I partially automatize this behavior ? For example : I define several classes of the different types of network interfaces in my workstation pool. Then I assign every host to one of these special classes. Due to this information I can make my installation decisions in my main autoinstall file for many hosts without to create an own autoinstall file for each host. What would be if I want to install some software packages only to a subset of hosts. I would define a corrsponding class and make my decisions in my main autoinstall file to install this software only to the hosts defined in this class -> If host member of class then install software ... Using the CMS it is possible to define classes, but I don't know how to use them. Exists there some reference manual which explains this in detailed or can anyone give me an Howto ? Suse Linux 8.0: trouble with audio

Hi! I'm an italian student in a school of Rome. We bought Suse Linux 8.0 and I tryed to install it on two computers we have at school. If we manage to let Linux work with these computer, we'll try to use it on all school's computers. Anyway, we get some trouble. The first computer, we tryed to install Linux on, is a Pentium IV 2.5 Ghz, with a large hard disk (120 GB) and a lot of RAM (512 Mb). On this computer the sound card (integrated on the main board) has not been recognized by Linux, and the sound doesn't work. The sound chipset name is: Sigmatel Stac 9750T. Also the printer (Hp deskjet 920C) doesn't work (maybe because of the USB ports...) and the modem (a PCI card): Aztech CNR 2800 W V92. On the other computer, a Pentium IV 1.6 Ghz, with 40 GB HDD and 256 MB RAM, Suse Linux 8.0 managed to recognize all the hardware, during installation. Anyway there's a bigger problem: when I reboot the system (after installation) it can't boot. It stops on the line about sound (something like "loading previous sound...") Fehler bei der Konfiguration der Software Auswahl

Hi, there is an great problem with my home-made install-cd. after booting the yast starts and it seems that it reads the autoinst.xml. ( language set to german..) At the last point in the yast-menue is the software-configuration. this causes the error: "Fehler bei der Software Auswahl. Bitte verscuhen Sie es erneut" the autoinst.xml was generated with yast2. the softwarelist is form the default.sel and somme additional packages like squid, apache and so on.. All needed rpm's are on the cd, at this point yast works fine.. the system runs with suse 8.1. the last autoyast2-2.6.40 patch and the autoyast2-installation-2.6.40 were also installed. Here is the software-part of my autoinst.xml ..... <software> <base>Myselect</base> <packages config:type="list"> <package>aaa_base</package> <package>aaa_skel</package> <package>aaa_version</package> <package>acl</package> <package>ash</package> <package>at</package> <package>attr</package> <package>autoyast2-installation</package> ..... a lot of other needed packages .... </packages> </software> </install> </profile> whats going wrong with my boot-cd? any idea? Installation mit Yast findet keine Paketauswahl

I would like to install Suse 8.1 . In Yast I got the following message: SOFTWARE No base selection available ERROR: No proposal Therefore I started the installation once again and after a new start of yast, I changed with STRG + ALT + F2 to the Boot-Prompt. In this window I put in the following commands cdromdevice=hdc and pci=acpi in. After that I switched back to yast, unfortunately without the expected success -> under Software the same result as described on the top. GRUB floppy behavioural problems

Hello, I am having problems booting with the GRUB floppy. Ideally, I would like to install via NFS and pickup the control file via NFS. But when I used the following menu.lst, it finds the control file and begins the installation just fine, and then stalls (with Error: 1, and no other information) when trying to install the package devs-2002.3.22-1.i386.rpm. color white/blue black/light-gray default 0 timeout 8 framebuffer 1 title autoinstall-bootp bootp ifconfig --address=192.168.122.236 --mask=255.255.255.0 --server=192.168.122.160 root (nd) kernel (nd)/linux ip=192.168.122.236 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.122.254 nameserver=192.168.122.219 instmode=nfs install=nfs://192.168.122.160/tftpboot/suse80 autoyast=nfs://192.168.122.160/tftpboot/autoinst.xml initrd (nd)/initrd title floppy root (fd0) chainloader +1 A colleague suggested that installs via NFS can stall like that and to try using FTP instead. From the /var/log/y2log, it appears to be checking /var/adm/mount/suse/descr/common.pkd and not finding it because it hasn't mounted anything because ftp was specified as the installation source. When I tried using TFTP as the installation source, it couldn't find the installation media at all. At this point, I'd be happy to either get it working using FTP or to figure out why it stops on the devs-2002.3.22-1.i386.rpm when using NFS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Still cannot ping from fresh 8.1 CD install

Dear kind autoinstallers, I have been unable to connect my newly installed SUSE 8.1 to my local network: no pings in or out. I used YAST2 to set it up and based my setup on another SUSE box that I had previously setup on the same network without a hitch. As an aside, I've been using and admin'ing various unices since the 80's, although I still consider myself to be something of an amateur, given that there are only so many hours in the day. This is an out-of-the-box clean install using the latest SUSE 8.1 cdroms purchased last week. This is a known-good hardware situation. I have a small LAN with a router and switch that connects to broadband. I'm not running DNS or DHCP locally, just static addresses locally and remote DNS. I'm not sure about the inet6 address, as I was under the impression that this wasn't fully implemented yet. The only thing I see that might be fishy is that there are 0 of 1 configured routes up. What about the routing table as reported by netstat? datran6:/etc/sysconfig/network # netstat -r Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface ^C Ouch. Nothing. And I had to Ctrl-C to get back to the prompt. That just doesn't make sense to me unless there isn't a daemon running that should be. So I tried adding a line to the /etc/networks file to see how netstat would respond. datran6:/etc/sysconfig/network # cat >> /etc/networks local 192.168.1.0 datran6:/etc/sysconfig/network # netstat -r Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface local * 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0 eth0 ^C Still had to Ctrl-C out of netstat, but it at least now reports the correct first line with 192.168.1.0 translated as "local". I just don't understand why netstat can't find the routing table that is correctly reported by route. Is there a daemon that YAST2 isn't starting? I have tried with and without inetd (a long shot, admittedly). What am I missing here? I thank you for your patience and kind attention. appending new installation to a win partition

Hi there, I have some new machines with one windows partition (the first one). I also have some machines with one windows and some additional partition (with SuSE 8.0 installed). I would like to stay with the first partition and use the rest of the drive (empty space or old installation) for a new SuSE 8.1 installation. Network install problem on SUSE 8.1

I am having a problem setting up a new 8.1 installation. I am installing on a supermicro dual Xeon board with 2 on board ethernet controllers. One is an Intel EE Pro 100 and the other is an Intel gigabit interface. I've disabled the gigabit interface via jumper so as to reduce the variables (although I've tried that interface too). I did a fresh install of SUSE 8.1. YAST2 correctly finds the EtherExpress PRO/100 S Server Adapter. I've set a static IP and entered the hostname, name servers and default router. The box cannot ping out or be pinged. It can ping itself using the static IP. sboker@datran6:~/ncaa/GPAcalc02b> ping 192.168.1.1 PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) from 192.168.1.12 : 56(84) bytes of data. From 192.168.1.12: icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable I'm using a known good cable, known good switch and known good router. I have a working SUSE 6.2 box on the same network, so I looked at all of its configurations options in YAST2, removed its PCI NIC, disabled the Supermicro onboard ethernet and installed the (again EE Pro/100) NIC into the Supermicro. All YAST2 settings were correct based on the other working box, and I get exactly the same symptoms with the known good NIC. Back with the Supermicro onboard ethernet, I ask for ifinfo on eth0. Here is what I get.
