Hey Eric, I stopped trying it, because of a lack of time. In my oppinon, the format of the file common.pkd does matter. When I try to install, for example during the installation of the file aaa_base-xxx.rpm and some other packages there comes an error. On other packages not... If Anas has a solution I would be very happy! This also means you must remove the 'old' package that is being replace right? The makeCommon.sh script needs to generate a new common.pkd file. I tried this on my clean suse 8.0 tree and it generated a common.pkd file that seemed quite different from the file originally in the suse/setup/descr tree... How critical is the format of that file? The size field is different. Other things seem different as well. Is there a 'new/improved' way to build the common.pkd file? Or is the specific not that critical? I was able to get a common.pkd file that looks mostly ok. Thanks, eric

Problem to install SuSe Linux on PC with Athlon XP

Hello, I recently changed my PC. Now I have an Athlon Xp 2000, the motherboard is the Gygabyte 7VRXP. I have the Suse 7.1 distribution, and I cannot arrive to install it, because the graphical installer do not found the Hard disk. My PC config is the following : a.. Procesor : Athlon Xp 2000 b.. AMI BIOS GA-7VRXP F10 c.. Gigabyte 7VRXP motherboard d.. "Windows XP " e.. CR_RW (Secondary Master : SM) f.. DVD_ROM (Secondary slave : SS) g.. Hard Disk Seagate ST360021A (Primary Master : PM) h.. Hard Disk Seagate ST360021A (Primary Slave : PS) The two disk were formatted on "NTFS" by the reseller . I formatted then the second one (primary slave) on FTA32 to permit to SUSE 7.1 to recognise it. Nevertheless the Suse installer cannot find the Hard Disk. I changed the bios version from the lastet to one te older (hard disk always absent). Then I reflah the latest version (F10). During the start installation, the Suse installer recognisue the CD_RW and the DVD_ROM, but nothink about hda or hdb. On the Bios Setup, the PM & PS are on Auto config. I try to change the config by the user config possibility, but nothing happens. The Suse installer do not found the Hard Disk. I would like some help to install again the SUse 7.1 version. (This works fine on my previous PC based on a simple AMD Athlon 800 mhz). Thanks for your help or suggestions.

Hi, Due to the release of 8.1 I am currently updating the web page http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/ which will contain new docuemntation, bug fixes, tips etc. etc. I have noticed that some folks here created some pages wrt auto-installation. If you have something which might interest the general public please let me know and I will link it from the page above. The updated page should be up shortly. Anas P.S. For the 8.1, there is an update package which have a file that was missing on the product CDs. Updates from now on will be available as usual on our FTP server and via YOU and in ftp.suse.com/pub/people/nashif RPMS in ftp.suse.com/pub/people/nashif are not official. Hello, this is an easy one: you did not enter the moutpoint correctly! Partitioning/swap

Hi, last time I reported problems with creating and mounting swap partitions in connection with lvm setup. This time it is a single disk, ide setup, but the same problem. Yast says during partitioning, that it is creating a filesystem for "/" on both /dev/hde5 and /dev/hde6, where only /dev/hde6 is used for "/" in reality. /dev/hde5 should have become a swap partition, but it is neither initialised nor the corresponding entry added to /etc/fstab. Does anyone out there have suggestions what might be wrong in the attached code snippet? SuSE 8.0: Not formatting partitions, documentation corrections, and customized packet selection.

Hi, A few questions about NFS installs with AutoYaST and SuSE 8.0: 1) How can I use the graphical configuration tool to specify non-ReiserFS partitions that I want mounted but not formatted? If I don't tick the "Format" box, then no filesystem type is written to the XML file, and the install assumes ReiserFS and then fails because the partitions are of the wrong type. 2) To whom do I talk to get table 5-2 in the documentation about the autoyast boot command line variable "autoyast=nfs://<server>:<path>" fixed (that second ":" should be a "/"', as has been mentioned on this list before)? This caused me a bit of grief :( 3) Where the documentation says in 4.6.2 about customized packet selection: Beside the pre-defined selections, you can create custom selections by providing a customized selection file in the selection directory. Where is the "selection directory"? Does anybody have an example of what exactly to do to create and use your own customized packet selection? When I tried it, either the install barfed on installing the kernel (error 1 returned from the installation of "k_deflt"), or my customizations were ignored. TIA, Phil T

create RAID partition

I want to use RAID (mirrowing) and LVM with autoinstall, but I found nothing about RAID in the documentation. Is it an undocumented feature or isn't it supported yet. Problem with AutoYast via HTTP

Is anyone here who ist using http for AutoYast-Installations? My Instllation finds the config-file on the web-server via http but is searching a little bit later for the first CD. Any hints?
