I'm using the modified.xml method of dynamic autoinstall control files.
One of the things I wanted dynamic was the interactive or not choice,
controlled by:
<mode>
<confirm config:type="boolean">false</confirm>
If this was set to true, it should be interactive. I have this being
set in modified.xml, however it does not take effect. Is this option
checked BEFORE the pre-scripts run?

Hi,
I have a mysterious problem with the sysconfig section:when I use the
following section
<sysconfig config:type="list">
<sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_key>DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS</sysconfig_key>
<sysconfig_path>/etc/sysconfig/displaymanager</sysconfig_path>
<sysconfig_value>yes</sysconfig_value>
</sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_key>DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER</sysconfig_key>
<sysconfig_path>/etc/sysconfig/displaymanager</sysconfig_path>
<sysconfig_value>no</sysconfig_value>
</sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_key>DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN</sysconfig_key>
<sysconfig_path>/etc/sysconfig/displaymanager</sysconfig_path>
<sysconfig_value>yes</sysconfig_value>
</sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_entry>
<sysconfig_key>YAST2_LOADFTPSERVER</sysconfig_key>
<sysconfig_path>/etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate</sysconfig_path>
<sysconfig_value>no</sysconfig_value>
</sysconfig_entry>
</sysconfig>
all system variables are set except the DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER which
still has the default value "yes". Is the handling of this section buggy,
and how could one work around this?
System is SuSE-9.2.
Best regards,
Ole

I am trying to update an existing installation of SuSE pro. 8.2 to 9.2.
It works fine when I use the 9.2 distribution CD and select "Update an
existing system" in yast. In autoyast is there a way to do an update
installation so that partitions and network settings are preserved.
Any help is much appreciated.

I'm trying to install SuSE 9.2 using autoyast.
I have a a cluster of SuSE 8.1 systems that were installed with a
different installer. They each have one filesystem in an lvm1 logical
volume that I really want to preserve.
If push comes to shove, I can restore the data, but it would make my
upgrade very time consuming.
No matter what tags I set in the control file, my pv's,vg's,and lv's are
erased and then re-created. Is there a way to prevent this?

Hi,
Is there any document which describes the kernel parameters (eg:
vnc=1) for an install kernel and a normal boot kernel. Also, is there
any file on the system which will have these details ?

You can always specify a device when in AutoYaST, then copy-and-paste the XML after the fact...

devices?
Thanks Anas. I am also facing the same problem.
I use "yast2 autoyast" to create the autoyast files. It seems that
with this method it is not possible to avoid the device. However when
I import RedHat's kickstart configuration file(s); the partition table
gets created without specifying the device.
Is it possible to create the partition table without specifying the
device AND without importing the ks.cfg files AND using "yast2
autoyast" ... :)
Thanks,
Ajay

Hi there,
my AutoYaST setup is running very fine but there are still some tasks on
my list. First is how to make the partitioning device independent?
Actually there is a <device>/dev/sda</device> statement in the XML file.
Can I just leave this one out to let AutoYaST decide to use the type of
device in the system (there are SCSI as well as IDE systems around in my
network)? Thanks a lot.

Hi out there,
I tried to update the Installation source of a suse 8.2 net installation. I
just copied the new k_smp ans k_deflt files over, deleted the old ones and
startet create_package_descr with the usual parameters. After that I
startet a network installation and it screwed up. The package order seems
to be incorrectly generated. Any hints how to create the packages descr
right?
TIA

Is there a way to get Yast to generate a configuration xml of the
current machine.
RedHat generates a kickstart file in /root after installation. Is
there a similar mechanism in SuSE.
What I want to do is install one box and replicate that configuration to other
boxes (except machine specific info).
I'm using SLES 9.
Thanks
Andy
Hi,
I was woundering is there any way to get the suse pro 9.2 autoinstall/autoyast
procedure to setup the root account, such as password or do i still need to
add that script hack i read about a few month ago?
Is there a different work around?
Right now autoyast installs the machine just fine, but doesn´t setup a root
account and thus the install is not very functional.
Please let me know
Thanks
S.
