Cont: Adding Custom RPMs to autoinstall

Hi, To start, in my previous email i forgot to mention i was trying to do this with the SuSE 9.2 Professional install. After trying to follow specifications from http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/9.1/html/CreateProfile.Software.html on how to add some custom rpms, i get other issues of importing the selection. Installation Server Requirements

I have been performing network installations of Red Hat using DHCP/TFTP/NFS for some time and now need to do the same for SuSE Linux and Enterprise Linux. I have been going through the AutoYast docs and my initial question is: Does my installation server need to run SuSE, or can I just server up the appropriate files with my existing (Red Hat 9) DHCP/TFTP/NFS setup? I would prefer to have a single server for installing both if I can and I am wondering what I lose by not running SuSE for the installation server? SuSE disk 1 installer

Guys, We've reached a point in debugging the standard SuSE install where it would be really handy to have the source for the installer. I'm wondering if any of you have already been down this path. The disk 1 ISO has an initrd stuffed down in the boot/loader directory. When I unpack this initrd, I see that the linuxrc file which executes first is a statically-linked, stripped executable. Dumping strings from this binary, I see various symbols that make me believe that this is YaST in disguise (you probably already knew this). It would be really handy if I had the source to thislinuxrc so I could modify it and rebuild it. Do you know if SuSE supplies this source? -- Charlie

Rules and classes help

I'm at something of a loss here; I suspect I must be misunderstanding how classes are meant to be used. I've got three classes - Drive, Site, and Common. I set the last up to contain everything that I would normally put in the standard profile (for all machines). In the Drive class, I have four XML files, which are all nearly identical; they're meant to switch between installing to hda, hdb, hdc, or hde respectively, with the relevant partitioning information on them. Site contains three classes, for a few site-specific options. My rules.xml file contains only a few rules. My intent is for it to pick one Drive rule, one Site rule, and the Common rule (I had to have one). So, here's what I have: I have four of these, all pretty similar. <rule> <disksize> <match>/dev/hde 2000</match> <match_type>greater</match_type> </disksize> <result> <profile>hde.xml</profile> <continue config:type="boolean">true</continue> </result> </rule> ... repeated three more times ... <rule> <custom1> <xinclude:include href="http://xxx/autoinstall/scripts/site.xml" /> <match>Colorado</match> <match_type>exact</match_type> </custom1> <result> <profile>Colorado.xml</profile> <continue config:type="boolean">true</continue> </result> </rule> ... repeated two more times ... <rule> <arch> <match>i386</match> <match_type>exact</match_type> </arch> <result> <profile>common.xml</profile> <continue config:type="boolean">true</continue> </result> </rule> The profile files hde.xml, Colorado.xml, and common.xml are just there to invoke the classes - it's merely a <classes></classes> section with a reference to just the one class (hdeClass.xml, for example) in it. The custom script just returns a string containing the name of the site; it works fine (I'll explain why I know that in a bit). Colorado.xml is, like above, a reference to ColoradoClass.xml. I do use a different custom entry for each one, though I wasn't sure whether I needed to or not. Now, my intent is that I get multiple classes, since multiple of the rules will match, and then AutoYaST will merge the classes. But what I'm getting, if I look in /tmp for the files that it downloaded (or look in my Apache logs), is that it correctly (for my system) downloaded common.xml, hda.xml, Colorado.xml, and commonClass.xml - but it doesn't download hdaClass.xml and ColoradoClass.xml to perform the merge. Am I misunderstanding how this works? Do I have to set up different profiles that select each combination of classes (and therefore rules with each combination) in order to do this? That doesn't seem right, somehow... what am I missing here? Thanks for your help...

LVM & SLES9-SP1 on HP Proliant DL380-G4

I'm getting the following LILO error when building an HP Proliant DL380-G4 with LVM and SLES9 Service Pack 1: Error Occurred while Installing LILO Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed Fatal: Sorry, don't know how to handle device 0xfd00 The DL380-G4 has a SmartArray 6i RAID controller in it with two 72GB drives mirrored. I do not encounter any errors when I configure autoyast to use conventional partitioning. Pb with installation sources

9.2 is "yast autoyast" discontinued?

Hello, Topday I did a SuSE 9.2 installation, what I'm missing is the autoyast module of yast. This module made it formerly (9.1) possible to create autoyast input files or parts of it within yast. Do I have now to choose a different product to get that functionality or is it completely abandoned or did I just overlook something? Also I noticed that packages silently appear and disappear something like "irssi" an irc-client was shipped with SuSE 9.1 included now it is not, I guess there are many more. Why can't such things mentioned in the release notes? Cheers, David

NFS problem with SLES9 autoyast

Hi, I've set up SLES9 as a PXE/NFS automated build server, to build SUSE 8.2 workstations with all the latest patches applied. It was working fine last week, and indeed has been for some time, but today the build fails when it tries to install the kernel. Up to that point the install seems to be going smoothly. The log (/var/log/YaST2/y2log) just has the entry "rpm failed, message was :" (no message) I then tried to manually install it from the shell to check the rpm output: # rpm -ivh /long/path/to/k_deflt-2.4.20-127.i586.rpm failed to open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm: Read-only file system error: cannot open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm /var/lib/rpm is an empty directory at this point, whereas packages.rpm is actually under /mnt/var/lib/rpm. Can anyone shed some light on this? If you need more information let me know.
