You can always specify a device when in AutoYaST, then copy-and-paste the XML after the fact...

Thanks Anas. I am also facing the same problem.
I use "yast2 autoyast" to create the autoyast files. It seems that
with this method it is not possible to avoid the device. However when
I import RedHat's kickstart configuration file(s); the partition table
gets created without specifying the device.
Is it possible to create the partition table without specifying the
device AND without importing the ks.cfg files AND using "yast2
autoyast" ... :)
