linuxrc - netdevice=<hwaddress>

Does anyone know if any of the SLES releases 9 or 10 support passing the linuxrc option netdevice=<hardware mac address> ? I noticed Red Hat has had this for sometime and it seems totally missing in SuSE which seems really odd. I'm still scratching my head if we really are still passing only by kernel interface name. I read in the change log for linuxrc-1.8.6-3 a change that "sounds" like this feature. * Mon Mar 14 2005 - snwint(a)suse.de - s390: fix segfault in net_list_s390_devs() - extra root image was sometimes not used - allow netdevices to be specified by hwaddress But it looks like linuxrc-1.8.6-3 is only available in SuSE Professional 9.3. "any" commentary would be sincerely appreciated the feature also seems to be fairly minor since any delimiter seperating the octets in the hwaddr string could be used to identify the difference between an interface name and interface hw address if i could figure out a generic method of overriding the linuxrc with a custom script and daisy chain it back into linuxrc after setting up the interface name, I would.. and have a slight idea on how to do that.. but i'd rather find out i'm just missing something and the feature is already there Thanks!

[opensuse-autoinstall] Classes do not work in 11.1 autoyast installation

Hi, I want to use classes in my autoyast installation. With the 'autoyast' parameter I'm loading the xml-file: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE profile> <profile xmlns="http://www.suse.com/1.0/yast2ns" xmlns:config="http://www.suse.com/1.0/configns"> <classes config:type="list"> <class> <class_name>default</class_name> <configuration>software.xml</configuration> </class> <class> <class_name>laptop</class_name> <configuration>partitions.xml</configuration> </class> </classes> </profile> I'm booting the client via PXE boot. I can see in the log file of the http server, that the client fetches the xml file. But in contrast the client does not even try to load the class files. I can not see an obvious error in the y2log file. With 10.3 that procedure worked that way. With 11.1 it has broken for me. [opensuse-autoinstall] opensuse 11.1 autoyast postinstall script and autofs

Hello, I had a postinstall script that worked under 11.0 but doesn't with 11.1. It doesn't do anything complicated but it uses autofs to copy some files from a server and nfs doesn't seem to be started at the time the script runs even though I try to start it from the script. Does anyone else have this problem? [opensuse-autoinstall] Is lilo still supposed to work in SLES 11?

Hi, I'm using this in my profile: <bootloader> <loader_device>/dev/sda</loader_device> <loader_type>lilo</loader_type> <location>custom</location> </bootloader> The result is this lilo.conf: # Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Tue Mar 31 15:57:07 UTC 2009 menu-scheme = Wb:kw:Wb:Wb timeout = 800 lba32 change-rules reset prompt default boot = /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD2500JS-60MHB5_WD-WCANKH180905 Thus, there are no sections, and again the "default" entry doesn't get a value. I reported this "default" bug for 10.0 RC1 :-( But there have been at least sections in the past. Is there any chance to get anything fixed for lilo bugs in AY? Hi I created a aks list give the user the choice what he wants to install like in this example: http://www.suse.de/~ug/Examples/ask_script.xml thank you for the hint Uwe Gansert. Now I have one problem left: I get the profile and can examine it at /tmp/profile/autoinst.xml However, the classes are not used. Can I get autoyast to honor the classes? Hi, I try to install SLES 11 with SDK 11. I added this in my software section <add-on> <add_on_products config:type="list"> <listentry> <media_url>nfs://bioserver.bio.ifi.lmu.de/rpm-export/x86_64/11/SDK</media_url> <product>SUSE Linux Enterprise Software Development Kit 11</product> <product_dir>/</product_dir> <name>SDK 11</name> </listentry> </add_on_products> </add-on> and I do find this part in the result.xml when the system has booted into the installation. However, in the software selection I don't find the SDK package or any of its rpm. "Repositorys" shows only SLES, not SDK. And the overview tells me "No add-on products are selected for installation" (or similar, translated from german). [opensuse-autoinstall] insmod modules not considered?

Hi, we are passing some modules to the AY installer with insmod= via our pxelinux.cfg. But it seems that only some are loaded before the automatic hardware detection starts, and I don't understand which ones are and which ones are not. E.g. we have insmod=3w-9xxx insmod=scsi_mod insmod=dock insmod=libata insmod=ata_piix insmod=mptbase ... But only the 3ware controller is preloaded, the SATA not. On console 3 I see: ... insmod /modules/arc4.ko insmod /modules/3w-9xxx.ko insmod /modules/mptbase.ko ... Starting hardware detection... Thus, all the modules for the SATA controller are ignored. Same happens with "insmod=tg3 insmod=e1000" which loads the tg3 module, but not the e1000. What am I doing wrong here? cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform.
