Hey, have a look at the Posting from Sept 2002 (I think)--> http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-autoinstall/2002-Sep/ . There should be a thread called 'applying patches'. Just have a look at it. I'm trying to autoinstall 8.1 on an IBM ThinkPad T30 but on console 3, I get the following lines: NFS mount ok Setting up localhost...done going for automatic install Loading image "/var/adm/mount/boot/root"... mount: /ddev/ram2: we need a loop device mount: using /dev/loop0 starting /mounts/instsys/sbin/inst_setup yast install program exit code is 139 sync... ok Then nothing happens. If I then try to give the command "/mounts/instsys/sbin/inst_setup yast" on console no. 2, I get errors like ln: creating symbolic link `/mounts/instsys/usr/share/zoneinfo/.*' to `../../../../..//mounts/instsys/usr/share/zoneinfo/.*': Read-only file system and then later ln: cannot remove `/proc/1/exe': Permission denied The the installation proceeds using the ncurses interface, but later printer "No bios found at: 0xc0000" in the top left corner of the screen. ldap/runlevel problems

first of all, i want to say how great this package is. I can install my servers in 15 minutes. ( i have 15 servers to install in the future ) Great job! There are however a couple of small problems that persist. I am still using the suse 8.0, version of auto-install is : yast2-module-autoinst-2.5.27-1. I defined the ldap-client ( i know, there were a couple of mails about that before, but there was no mention about suse version, and i tried it with ldapclient, with no results however). Maybe you an give me an example how a correctsetup should be. Another thing is that the runlevels that are defined in the autoinstall setup don't seem to correspond with the runlevels on the freshly installed server. That's anoying. There must also be a confusion between language and keyboard. I use a 'ducth' keyboard ( azerty, i know, very annoying, but its my client who uses it ) and 'dutch' language, however, on the server i always have to readjust the keyboard. So, these are my 3 problems, minor ones, but would be nice if they could be solved. Thanks anyway, and again, wonderfull package!! doing it partly manually

Hello, I want to do invoke autoinst.xml on suse 8.1 Is there a way to do (only) the partitioning during this process by hand? What I mean: Starting the automatic installation, then after the questioning about inserting the hardware modules it asks to do the partitioning manually. Is it possible? Is it possible to do eveerything manually, execpt the installation of the software programs? One bootdisk only

Hello! I am VERY new to this ;) I did make a bootdisk with the "bootdisk" image from the SuE8.0 CD1. I compiled a new Kernel (839kb) and compiled net and fs driver into it, no modules at all. I copyed the kernel into the floppy, and delted the old kernel first. Then i put my info file and autoinst.xml onto floppy (attached). Why does it still want bootdisk 2 (modules) ??? After it finishes Loading the kernel with the 2nd floppy (shouldn´t need it!) it hangs in a black screen and a blinking cursor, wich must be a kernel problem (CPU or something). But this is not the Problem (yet) ;P How can i tell it to only use one boot disk, it does not need more. Cheers, Mario

Package install fails with "ERROR"

Hello all, I've managed to get my test machine to boot from the network and locate the installation source. Now, when it launches Yast2, it gets the configuration file and begins the installation just fine, but after it installs about 10 packages, it begins to fail on each package. The only message in the error log shows the package name and "ERROR", and there is nothing of consequence on the other console screens. It fails on every single package after the first 10-12 and if I hit enter to get through all the packages, it finally says that there was an error on installation and that it couldn't write to LILO. Has anyone else run into this? Could this be due to the way I have my installation repository setup? I copied all the install disks into one directory, and set that directory as the installation source. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Amanda -- Amanda K. Can't find

Hello, I am using the Grub floppy to initiate system boot via bootp & tftpd. It is able to locate and load the kernel, but when it gets to the SuSE Installation Program it tries to locate the infofile and then moves on to a screen where it says "Please make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive!". I have supplied a location for the installation source, but it doesn't seem to be finding it. I am specifying the locations of everything in the menu.lst on the Grub disk, as my DHCP server setup must remain plain vanilla if possible. Here is what I have for the menu.lst: color white/blue black/light-gray default 0 timeout 8 framebuffer 1 title autoinstall-bootp bootp tftpserver 192.168.122.160 root (nd) kernel (nd)/linux install=(nd)/suse80 serverdir=(nd)/suse80 autoyast=(nd)/autoinst.xml initrd (nd)/initrd Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. X11 keyboard config?

Hi Anas, people, I've spent the last couple of weeks setting up autoyast2 for a diverse network with 80 machines. Anas' online buglist (and the patches it pointed to) answered most of the questions I wanted to ask, but not this one: Is there a way (beyond applying sed to /etc/X11/XF86Config, which is what I do today) for me to set the X11 keyboard map? I keep getting machines configured with a US keymap, which with Norwegian keyboards is anything but nifty. Setting the _language_ to Norwegian isn't an option, my keyboards may be Norwegian but 20% of my users aren't... <General> -> <keyboard> only affects the console keymap. I'm managing with sed - consider this a wishlist item for the future. *** 8.1 - how to SAVE custom packages selection to floppy DURING the installation??..

Hello. See Subject. In SuSE 8.0 as I remember during the installation it was possible after completing boring custom packages selection through the complete set of packages to SAVE it on floppy for re-use it during next installation This saves HUGE amount of time, if take into account the number of available packages and the number of installations.. ;-) So - where is the same feature in 8.1 installation??!.. In 8.0 it was under "Extra" button on the package selection screen and in 8.1 - I do not see any such possibility at all.. VERY STRANGE?? Who knows the reason or what I need to do? Second question - how to do the same AFTER installation is done when using YaST2 "Add/Remove Software" module? Again the same screen without saving to the floppy...
