*** 8.1 - how to SAVE custom packages selection to floppy DURING the installation??..

Hello. See Subject. In SuSE 8.0 as I remember during the installation it was possible after completing boring custom packages selection through the complete set of packages to SAVE it on floppy for re-use it during next installation This saves HUGE amount of time, if take into account the number of available packages and the number of installations.. ;-) So - where is the same feature in 8.1 installation??!.. In 8.0 it was under "Extra" button on the package selection screen and in 8.1 - I do not see any such possibility at all.. VERY STRANGE?? Who knows the reason or what I need to do? Second question - how to do the same AFTER installation is done when using YaST2 "Add/Remove Software" module? Again the same screen without saving to the floppy... Please copy Your answer to G.Roubchinski@chello.nl ... Thanks.. George

In YaST2 autoinstall module, use 'clone' option to creating XML profile of your current installation. Then either modify it or copy the part with package list. Michal Kubecek

Thank You. As the beginner, I have more questions after Your answer... Could You please shortly say or say where (official doc, URL) I can find it: 1) Where I can find YaST2 AutoInstall Module - via YaST Control Center? 2) Now I am about to mess it all - is it THE SAME as "AutoYaST2" or something different? 3) Imagine I created that XML profile. But how can I re-use it during the next fresh installation? I mean another completely new installation on empty hard drive when I do it next time and want to re-use previous package selection I produced during initial installation... Look at your posting in the suse-linux-english list. I already tried to give you that answer there about an hour ago. I also posted the link where to find the AutoYast2 docu.

Yes. I did. Thank You. HTML doc is not convinient to use, but Autoyast2.pdf is the great document. Now I understand the whole method I hope. Could You please shortly check the following, just in general? First is to install kind of "reference" system and do package selection by hands without saving to a floppy immediately on first install (like 8.0 was able by package selection screen interface). Next - use the installed system's YaST Control Center - Misc - Autoinstall. Next - go through the interface carefully, in result something, in form of file, will be generated. Next - if I need only clone the software selection but nothing more - edit this file by some way to remove all extra info.. And/or edit the file for some other reasons (I want another or manual partitioning for instance on next install). Next - just put this file on the empty floppy as autoinst.xml (yes?). Next - on second (cloned) system just start installation booting from CD1 or DVD but typing 'autoyast=floppy' <enter> on the initial boot screen, insert that floppy before. That's it - installation will read that file and start with that cloned info in place.. So - is it in general correct? It's the botton next to clone.
Next - just put this file on the empty floppy as autoinst.xml (yes?). Right. Must have that name otherwise YAST won't recognize it at the next installation.
Next - on second (cloned) system just start installation booting from CD1 or DVD but typing 'autoyast=floppy' <enter> on the initial boot screen, insert that floppy before. That's it - installation will read that file and start with that cloned info in place..
So - is it in general correct? Yes it is :-)
