Problems autoinstalling to a Compaq server

I have a couple of problems getting autoinstallation to work with a Compaq system 1) The SmartArray uses logical device naming rather than traditional ie: rather than sd0a it would have /dev/ida/c0d0p1 (controller 0, disk 0, partition 0 Can the autoinstall disk partitioning section be configured to grok this type of disk addressing? 2) I'm not using dhcp because of the enviroment I'm working in so I kick things off with explicit linux rc options: linux ip=10.1.1.1 netmask=255.255.255.0 insmod=e100 autoyast=nfs://10.1.1.2/depot/suse80.xml install=nfs://10.1.1.2/depot/suse80 instmod=nfs In the case of the compaq server I also need to insert two more modules "cpqarray" and "ncr53c8xx". I've tried using multiple insmod= lines insmod=e100 insmod=cpqarray insmod=ncr53c8xx and also using comma seperated modules insmod=e100,cpqarray,ncr538xx but neither method seems to work. I've done fairly extensive searches on google and other places and can't seem to find decent documentation for linuxrc and how to do this. Does anyone have a clue? SteveN

Hey Steve, I do not know if it is possible to add all the parameters as parameters. To me it looks like you did so. hi andre! that's all true what you wrote. But i want to start in runlevel 5 after installation an d i do not want to change i after the installation. When i install the default installation without autoyast2 (autoinstall) i have a runlevel 5 system, but when i install with autoyast2 i have a runelevel 3 system. hi again, I have the following Problem: I want to install Linux to existing partitions (Partitiontype: 131 / 130). I do not know the number of this partitions or the size, i only know that this partitions are on /dev/sda and have partitiontyp 130/131. I have found something like that in the documentation called "Reuse all avaiable linux partitions" but i do not found the parameter of the use-TAG to do this. Any ideas? Selecting an alternative kernel

I'm building a configuration in which I need to use on of the alternate kernels supplied in the 8.1 distribution. I tried adding it as a package but it wound up installing both packages (k_smp and k_psmp). What is the correct way to specify what kernel package to load? SteveN

Hi All, What i have to do that linux starts with runlevel 5 after autoinstallation. On my installation it starts allways with runlevel 3. I have allready tried this: <runlevels> <default>5</defaults> ..... </runlevels> ****** <runlevels> ..... </runlevels> (without default TAG) Thanks! bye Alexander

Installation of SuSE 8.1 from a W2K PC

Hello, this is my first posting to this mailing list server, so if I'm doing something wrong please don't hesitate to inform me. I bought two months ago SuSE 8.0 Professional (boxed with 7 CD's and 1 DVD). I learned a lot from this installation process as well as of SuSE linux (I'm a newbee). I downloaded SuSE 8.1 now from the Swiss Mirror server on a PC with W2K. I want to make a clean install of SusE 8.1 on my Linux PC, on which now resides SuSE 8.0. This is what Iive done now: 1. I wrote the boot.cd of SuSE 8.1 on a CD-ROM (raw write). 2. I connected the my W2K PC with my SuSE PC with a Cat 5 crossover cable. 3. I made the SuSE 8.1 folder on my W2K PC shared allowed. 4. I changed BIOS setting of my SuSE PC, so it could boot from the CD-ROM. 5. I booted from the bootable CD-ROM. Once done it asks for another CD, which I don't have. So I choose at some point Network. However, it did not recognise a network. What do I have to do, so that I can go from my SuSE PC (booted from the bootable CD) to the folder on my W2K PC and get SuSE 8.1 installed from there? Why I want to make a fresh install? I want to have GRUBS instead of LILO as bootloader and have everything fresh on my HD. You can respond in either German or English. I wrote this in English because I believe my writing skill are better in this language. Look forward hearing! Best regards, Gjalt

Reuse Existing Linux Partitions

Hi All I red in the autoyast2 documentation about reuse all existing linux partitions, but i do not know the parameter to do that. I only found the parameters "free", "all", or the partition number. How can i use this feature to reuse all existing linux partitions? Thanks! bye Alexander PS.: Is there a way to define the root-partions as location for bootloader? The root-partions will be allway on other partionsnumber each installation.
