Ok ok... I'll try using the smake build system again... and see what comes of it it was a few years ago that I last tried, when I was working at Weta Digital and was trying to get a DVD-writer working (at the point it was easier said than done)... Ok I don't want to continue adding coal to the fire here, and i'm not one to break up a good flame war =-). I think perhaps tho considering Andi has access to a rather large number of opteron build environments and Joerg needs a test system perhaps working together on this might be desirable. Joerg if you need an opteron test platform e-mail privately and I'll setup ssh access to mine... I can't gurantee the cleanliness of the environment tho. But it's a fresh kernel from kernel.org, gcc 3.3 with backported k8 extensions. I can see an easy resolution to this problem, but it involves working together, I'm guessing once Joerg has access to an opteron running linux, he can make a list of issues arising for someone (Andi?) who knows the amd64 linux arch far better than I from a coding level. Anyway, Again I thank both of you for continuing to acknowledge the issues revolving around this issue. Dail up problem with SuSe 9.1 64 bit

Hi I am using Compaq R3240US laptop with SuSe 9.1 64 bit Linux. I am having problem with Dial up. From Yast2 I found that the laptop's internal modem is detected as HP Internal Modem but when I try t query the modem from KPPP I get mode busy. I tried ttyS0 - ttyS3 as device but same result. Also yast2 may find my modem but unable to get where it is attached. (ttyS0 or ttyS1). So I tried manually , I already written the result. Now does SuSe 9.1 has a modem driver for it else , I think I have no hope. Currently my modem & card reader is not working under Linux & since I have linux only my box I am having problem to work with this machine. Also please tell me , from yast2 I get the chip set of my machine is nForcer so , I should install the nForcer driver from www.nvidia.com TIA Anirban Biswas. -- If Bill Gates is the Devil then Linus Torvalds must be the Messiah.

swap problem

I am running a very large process (14 Gb), although it require less memory than is available, it picks up swap memory and the process run very slowly. Any ideas on why this is so. Suse 9.1 Professional x86-64 reboot if memory more than 4G on Iwill DK8X .

Dear All, Did you meet this issue on any other mother board ??? The system configuration is : OS : Suse 9.1 Professional x86_64 (original kernel ) MB : Iwill DK8X AMD64 platform (8111+8151+8131) Memory : 1G DDR400 Reg/ECC (Samsung chipset ) x 8 pcs CPU : AMD Opteron 248 or 246 Video: PNY Nvidia Quadro FX 3000 or FX 1100 The situation is : After OS installation finishs first step and requests reboot system , the system reboot then OS boot linux from Hard disk . But after that ,OS reboot immediately. I can't process installation any more . If I make memory under 4GB, the system can be install completely. This issue seem to also occur on Suse 9.0 Professional AMD64 and can be fixed by upgrading kernel. How about the Suse 9.1 Professional or Kernel 2.6.x ?? How to dual boot X86_64 and X86 on single disk drive ?

I have a Compaq R3240US laptop . I have installed Suse 9.1 64bit on hda1 & hda2 . I installed 32bit on hda6 & hda7 . This is from /var/log/messages . Sep 16 23:28:20 linux syslogd 1.4.1: restart. Sep 16 23:28:23 linux modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting ac (/lib/modules/2.6.5-7.108-default/kernel/drivers/acpi/ac.ko): Invalid module format If I go to Install -> Repair and choose the hda7 system I can run the 32bit but not the 64bit I have looked but could not find much on dual booting 2 different linux versions and nothing on 32 and 64 bit. Has anyone had any success at this ?

Dear listers, I run SuSE9.0 and 9.1 on different PCs. One funny(?) finding is that on SuSE 9.0: libldap.so.2.xxx on SuSE 9.1: libldap.so.199.xxx Does this mean libldap is downgraded from 9.0 to 9.1? #A similar lib version is found on the i386 plathome. Hi, I don't know how my problem relates to this problem, but here goes: I note that under 9.1 (not 9.0) I insert a USB device and the op system autoloads. HOWEVER, if I plug it into another port (new boot) the hardware is not recognised at all: it seems to assume that this device will always be plugged into this port. System remounts device if moved to first-time port; a bit inconvient if there is another device in the port. Also, I have a 20G "Anypak" which works fine, but my 40G "Anypak" is not recognised. (XP has none of the above problems.)
